Yesterday we walked up on the hill to check out the apple tree that is along the fence line.  It is loaded with apples!!!!  We are so glad.  These apples are very good.  We don’t know what kind they are.  The tree was already here when we moved in.

This picture of the pond was taken from up on the hill at the apple tree.

This is a view of the house from the hill.  I will have to make this a short post.  Our VBS starts tonight and it is time for us to leave.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Birthday and Cherries

100_9801

Today we celebrated my Julie’s 14th birthday.  My, my, how time has flown by.  Seems like just the other day, my Lord was surprising me by giving her to me.  God is SO good.  We celebrated at Groundhog Mountain with hamburgers, hotdogs and chocolate cake.  The Horn’s came with us and Dave, Jess and the kids met us on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Meadows of Dan.  We had a wonderful day!!

Mrs. Vicki bringing trucks for the boys to play with.  You will notice she has on a jacket.  It was kinda chilly here this morning.  42 degrees when we got up.   I think it is supposed to be about that chilly tonight too.  It was a nice day though-definitely not too hot.

Daniel seems to be deep in thought.

From the picnic area, we went on down the Parkway to Levering Orchard to pick cherries.

Can you tell Sam loves cherries!

If you look closely in this picture, you will see a man in the top of the tree picking.

We all had so much fun.  I can’t think of a better way to spend the day than with family and best friends.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Pink Apples

100_3959

Saturday while down at Jessica’s we went over to David’s mothers.  There we found an apple tree loaded with apples and ready to be picked.  She said we could have them.  We did get a surprise though.  They are not your normal apple.

We gathered about a 1/2 bushel and brought them home.  We had never seen an apple that looked like this one.  I’m not sure what their name is but they are difinitely different.  What fun we had today working with these.  Grace of course loved them as pink is her favorite color.

After cooking them and running them through the sauce maker, they turn a beautiful, darker color.

We canned 9 pints and put 1 qt bag in the freezer.  I think they look very pretty in the jar.  Tomorrow, if all goes as planned, we will be making spaghetti sauce.  We have  a bushel of tomatoes to work up.  Our pastor’s wife gave us her spaghetti sauce recipe, so I think we will make it tomorrow.  She gave us a can to try and we all thought it was very good.  The recipe I have made before does not get thick enough so I have been on the search for a new one.  I’ll let you all know tomorrow how it turns out.  Take care and God bless.
