Double Rainbow

Good morning everyone! We had the most beautiful double rainbow at our house yesterday!

Grace and I both love rainbows

She took the first three pictures with her camera. The colors were so amazing!

It lasted for a really long time!

God bless!

Surprise Visitor

Good morning everyone!

We had a surprise visitor last night. I have no idea how this little guy got into the house but he was there. He was hid under the big cabinet in the dining room.  Thanks to Grace’s quick reflexes and smart thinking, she was able to catch him. We carried him up to the barn and released him.  Hopefully he stays up there.

Last night was our last cool night(hopefully). I have a few more plants to get out in the garden today. The garden is looking good. I will be doing a garden post soon.

I hope you all have a good Mother’s day tomorrow.

God bless.

Updates

Good morning everyone! This post is mostly a catch up of some of the things we’ve been doing. Friday, Grace, Katie and I went to Christiansburg (big town). Grace had to take her final exam in biology.  She did great by the way. She only has one more week, one more final exam and she will be out for summer break. Yay! We are looking forward to lots of fun things we have planned. While Grace was taking her exam, Katie and I went to home depot and got the supplies needed for our project. She built the brick walkway Friday evening. Then we built the raised beds yesterday and filled them with plants and seeds. So exciting!! I love that she is interested in gardening!❤

The dogs were destroying Katie’s garden. I had this old fence that someone gave to Dave. Katie and I put it around the garden.
I think it looks so cute!

I am experimenting with some pepper seeds. I know it is extremely late to start them but I want to see if they will produce any fruit. We’ll see how it goes.

Another project we did was split our wood for the winter. Daniel was able to help us this year. He couldn’t help last year because he had broken his collarbone.

We sure are thankful for his help!

Sam helped with puttting down some new landscape fabric and burn new holes!

Katie helped with getting some early seeds started.

John Luke helped with some measuring.

Baptism and confirmation day into the Catholic church!

Dave took us out to eat afterward to celebrate.  I just love this picture of Grace and Katie.

We did some cleaning up around the house and one the of things we removed was some  vines. Apparently mixed in with those vines was some poison oak. I am highly allergic as you can see. Both my arms were broken out. These pictures were taken after a week of misery.

On a lighter note, flowers are starting to bloom

Asparagus is coming in and we are enjoying meals on the Blackstone!

God is GOOD!

Smoothie Recipe

I’m pretty sure this recipe came from Spend With Pennies. It is a easy smoothie recipe. I do add honey for sweetener or whatever sweetener I have on hand.

Spring Clean up

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a good week.  Here are a few pictures and updates since my last post. Weather has been really nice here after the ice storm so we’ve been doing a little outside work. One of the first things I did was get the arched trellis back in order. It will definitely have to have a new cover this spring but this one will do until I get a new one.

Next we did some work on the grapevine

It was in need of a good trim

It looks so much better!

Another place we are working on is the forsythia area. It has been years since we trimmed this area. As you can tell, it is extremely overgrown.

It is looking much better but not finished yet. I’m very excited about getting this little area cleaned up and looking good.

I found a new to me cucumber variety to try this year. I thought it looked very cool. We’ll see.

Grace’s latest painting and…

First coltsfoot sighting!

Special sunrise this morning! Today makes 7 years since my sweet Julie went to heaven. It is a hard day for me. However, the sunrise reminds God is always there!

I hope you all have a blessed day!

Storm Harlow

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you all are having a good day. Last week was very interesting here. First we got about 4 inches of snow which was quickly covered with a thick layer of ice. It was definitely a mess.

Many tree limbs are down in our yard.

There are quite a few more but I didn’t get any more pictures of them.

Major damage though from all the downed trees. Our power went off Wednesday morning and didn’t come back on until Sunday evening.  We were definitely ready for it to come back on.

We have a generator though and Grace and I were able to get it started so we didn’t lose any of the food in the freezers. We cooked our meals on the wood stove and used the water from the rain barrels to flush the commode. All in all, not too bad but definitely makes for lots more work without electricity. So many people have it much harder than we do when the power is out.

I think I read that about 80% of the county was without power. Some areas are still without it. Many surrounding counties were hit with this storm as well. Another storm is supposed to be coming in on Wednesday but it is just snow(hopefully).

However, God always has beauty to show us!

God bless!

Cleaning Around the Rose Bush

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a nice day. It is a beautiful day here in Floyd.  Temperature is in the upper 40’s. A great day for working outside.  Our rosebush was in desperate need of being cleaned. It had not been trimmed in years.

Also raspberries vines had taken over but unfortunately not producing hardly anything so they needed to be cut back as well. Now to get it all raked up and put in the brush pile!

As usual, though, I forgot to get a before picture but trust me when I say it looks a lot better.

Cleaned up the firepit and got it ready to (hopefully) use soon.
Also did some rearranging on the deck. We have to move the trough off the deck. It needs some work done to it. The wood is rotten and it is falling apart.

I very seldom take pictures of myself but here I am, red cheeked from working outside.  I love this time of year.

God bless!
