Monday

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was very nice.  Not much going on.  We didn’t have church yesterday as there was no power at church.  Lots of people here in Floyd have been without power since the storm.   I spoke to a lady at our local supermarket this morning and she is still without power.  I certainly pray everyone gets  power restored before tonight.  We are supposed to get really cold-single digits with wind chills at zero or below.  So many people have electric heat.  It would be hard for them to stay warm without electricity.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day cutting out quilt pieces.  I have been inspired by my blogging friends, Blessings  and Cheryl.    I am doing a simple block quilt.  The block pieces are 5″ X 5″.  Then hopefully I will sew them all together (using the sewing machine).  We’ll see how it goes.  I have made quilts before but always using panels not something I have to cut out and sew together.  I thought this would be the simplest to do.  If I calculated correctly it will take 216 5″ X 5″ blocks to make a twin size quilt.  Okay, so maybe I am already overwhelmed.  I think it will be a fun project though-something different for me.

Well, that’s about it for us.  School is finished for the day, the outside chores are done and the girls are going for a walk on the tractor road.  Two dogs and several cats are walking with them.  The geese are swimming happily on the pond, the sun is shining.  I am SO blessed.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Birds

The birds are starting to come in to the feeders now.  Different ones than we get in the winter.  They make such a joyful sound to the Lord.  As soon as I get up in the morning, they are already singing.  I go hang clothes on the line, their music fills the air.  Such blessings the Lord gives.

Our weekend weather was a little different.  It started to rain about 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning.  It rained all day Saturday, all night Saturday night and most of the day Sunday.  All our little creeks were overflowing.  Several places the creek was running across the road when we came back from church Sunday afternoon.  Then it started to ice, then it snowed some and finally it got bitter cold.  When we came out from church last night, the side doors to the van were frozen shut.  Julie and Grace had to get in the the front doors.  We had some fierce wind so I guess that made the doors freeze.  This morning it was 20 degrees when we got up.  The wind has slowed down to a more manageable breeze, the sun is shining and hopefully it will get warmer.  I just checked and it is 32 degrees now.  I already have 2 loads of clothes on the line and another load ready to go out.  I love clothes dried outside.

We finished our study of II Corinthians last night.  Next week we will begin in Galatians.  Our supper menu last night was pigs in a blanket, mashed potatoes, corn, baked beans, cornbread and a sour creme pound cake for dessert.  I tell you, we sure do eat good.  Our pastor says if you like to eat and shoot this is the church for you.  As you may remember, our church does a lot of clay shoots as a men’s outreach.  Lots of the women shoot too.  We certainly have a lot of fun at our church.  Hopefully, I haven’t made it sound like a social club.  We are very dedicated to worshipping and serving the Lord.  We just believe the Lord wants us to have fun too.

Well, it is time for school.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Ain’t he handsome!  Everything is going very well.  They both came home this afternoon.  So much different than with Daniel.  I so thank you all for your prayers and I thank God for all His blessings on us.100_3684

He looks a little small in Dave’s hands but he really is pretty good size.  He seems to have taken to food like a true champion.

This is Jessica, just a few hours after delivery.  I told her she could do an advertisement for the makeup she is wearing.  The makeup she is wearing is the same makeup she put on the evening before when they left the house, about 18 hours before.  Amazing.  I haven’t been home long so there is much to do.  Just wanted to show him off a little.  Take care and God bless.

Gingerbread House

Today was spent doing a very fun project.  Our gingerbread house.   Last year the girls and I made our first gingerbread house.  We decided it needed to be a  tradition at our house.  So much fun.  Here’s a picture of our gingerbread house.  Not competition material but great for our house.   This will be our centerpiece until Christmas.   When I do things like this with my girls, I can’t help but be thankful for our lives together.  The laughter, the Christmas music, a warm fire.  I am a very blessed woman and I thank God for his blessings.   George had some work to do today so we didn’t get to go to Jessica’s this weekend.  The girls and I are doing girl stuff today,  the gingerbread house, some Russian Tea Cakes and maybe some peanut butter roll candy.   Temperatures were cold again last night.  7 degrees when we got up this morning.  Not much wind though so it doesn’t feel as bad as yesterday.  The weather forecast says freezing rain for tonight and early Sunday morning.  YUK!  Hopefully it won’t happen so we can go to church.  Oh well, I guess we’ll see what tomorrow morning brings.  Well time to make some more memories (Russian Tea Cakes).  God Bless.

More Fall Pictures

Here’s a few more fall pictures.  The maple tree is in our yard close to the house.  It gives wonderful shade to one of my swing areas.  The other picture is in the field behind our house.  The leaves are almost all gone now but the maple is still holding on to some color.  Today is a big day in our house, my baby girl’s birthday.  We will be having a little party tomorrow with friends.  I let them off with half school today.  You gotta do something special on birthdays.   Another beautiful day here in Floyd.  Sunshine, wind, (almost always wind) temperatures in the 50’s.  Chilly enough to have a fire this evening-around 40 degrees now.  Inside the house is nice and toasty thanks to our hard work yesterday.  I think Saturday has been set aside as another wood cutting day, if weather permits.   It is a wonderful feeling to enter winter knowing you have enough wood to keep you and your family warm.  I think these are blessings we sometimes take for granted.   Well time for me to get to work.  God Bless.

Wet & Foggy

Today has been a wet, foggy day in Floyd.  Temperatures only about 60 for the high.  Not much can be done outside when the weather is like this.   So today we settled in for a day of half school.  This means we only do half our normal lessons which made the girls very happy.  A day for reading, baking, and enjoying being a stay at home wife.  I believe blessings come in disquise sometimes, just to see if we’ll recognize them.  Thank you Lord, that I can stay at home, teach my girls and snuggle in for a foggy day.  God Bless.
