Water Pictures

Here are a few more pictures from our trip Sunday.  This little waterfall was very pretty.

See all the cracks in the rocks.

And last, just a little stream to listen to.  So relaxing.

The girls and I went to Roanoke yesterday.  They had a dentist appointment.  After the appointment, we did a few things they enjoy doing.  We went to Books-A-Million, which is one of their favorite places to go.  We went to Sam’s Club to pick up a few things we needed.  We then walked around a little bit in the mall.  Joann’s Fabric had fleece on sale so we wanted to go by there.  Grace will be making a top with it for her next sewing project with Mrs. Sally.  We discovered that Joann’s was no longer there.  We were very disappointed.  We wanted to stop at Fresh Market to get some pumpkin spice coffee.  It is a specialty coffee they only have in the fall.  Well, we were pulling into the shopping center and one of the girls said, “Mom, look, there’s Joann’s.”  Yea!  So, Grace got her fleece and Mom got her coffee.  Grace chose a red with white snowflakes on it.  I think it will look very good.

I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Dumpster Treasures

Look what I found today at the dumpster.  Beautiful!  I should tell you all that at our dumpsters people set things out beside the dumpster for others to get.  It is amazing the things you will find.  It is not uncommon to find appliances like dryers, etc.  Sometimes they will even put a paper on it telling you what is wrong with it.  We call it “greenbox shopping” (our dumpsters are green).  Anyway, today when I stopped to put the trash in, there was a box with this beautiful teacup in it.

Also this set of old teacups.  No saucers though.  Oh well, I guess you can’t have everything.

And this old sugar bowl.  I could hardly wait to get home and clean them up.  I love old dishes.

Today was busy running errands and shopping.  We have been gone all day.  Thank the good Lord our car has air conditioning as it is hot again today.   Grace has a dentist appointment tomorrow so we will be gone most of the day again.  Well, it is past time for us to eat supper so I better get busy.  Tonight’s menu is garlic bread and baked spaghetti with cantalope for dessert.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Project

100_5466

This is the big project we have been working on all week.  The first year we lived here we enclosed the front porch with glass.  Hubby had gotten these glass doors free from a job site years before.  This porch stayed wet all the time.  So he took the glass doors out of their frames and framed them up on the porch.  We love this this area.  All winter it is used for coffee drinking, book reading.  In the summer, it is a favorite spot to sit and look at the stars, the lightning bugs, summer storms.   It is a well used porch.  However, this winter we discovered a problem.  The wood underneath the porch had rotted so badly the windows were falling down.  Not good.  So Hubby decided we had to fix this before it became a disaster.

First step was to remove the glass.  In this picture, he has already replaced some of the rotten wood but you can still see some of it.  We had to jack the porch up and put new wood under it.  We also had to replace some of the wood flooring.

This was our attempt to keep the cats out. LOL  As you can guess, it did not work but it did keep the rain out which was our real objective.  We had a lot of rain Wednesday evening.  Lots of wind, thunder and lightning but the porch, Praise the Lord, stayed dry.

We now have all the posts replaced and the 3 big panes of glass back in.  We will be working on the last section today and then hopefully start replacing the trim.  He wants to cover  the front boards with metal.  This will keep the weather from doing too much damage.  He had to work alone yesterday as the girls and I had to go to Roanoke for a dentist appointment and other errands.   Hopefully we will get most of it finished today.  Rain is in the forecast for the weekend.  We are still working on our surprise project.  We just had to stop working on it to get this finished.  Priorities, you know.   I’ll try to have more pictures to show you all tomorrow.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Latest Wood Project

This is George’s lastest wood project.  It is just a prototype.  He doesn’t have the seat in yet but I think it looks very good.  Our oldest daughter and ourselves are in need of new chairs so he has been working on getting a pattern that he likes.    Not much happening here today.  The girls has a dentist appointment in Roanoke and we were gone most of the day.   We went to Michaels afterward, picked up a few things.  Then went to Lifeway Christian BookStore.   We  did a little grocery shopping and came home.  The temperature here has been a little chilly.  Lows about 50 to 52, highs in mid 60’s.  Nice weather.  Makes me start thinking fall and fall makes me think school.  We started Math yesterday.  I am trying a different approach this year.  I borrowed this idea from my friend.   I am going to add one subject a week  and by the end of September we will be in full school.  This way it won’t be school overload.   I’ll let you know how this works for us.  As you know what works for one family doesn’t always work for another but I think this will be a good plan for us.  I love homeschooling my girls.  We have such fun.  It’s a lot of work too but then most things worth doing require work.  Night has come and I am tired.  God Bless.
