Mantle Decorations

Our mantle. The girls and I spent the morning putting away fall decorations. Then we decided to decorate the mantle for winter. We think it looks pretty good. What do you think? I like to use snowmen instead of Santa Claus, that way I can leave them up all winter. Not just for Christmas. I know I’m kinda lazy when it comes to decorating. I really enjoy the putting up of decorations, its the taking down I don’t like. Anyway the mantle was fun. We had egg nog and enjoyed being together. Life is good. No, life is GREAT! I so enjoy my girls and being at home with them. We plan on putting the Christmas tree up Saturday. More egg nog, Christmas music, hot chocolate. I can’t wait! They are calling for a chance of snow Saturday here. Maybe some ice. I prefer snow, however we’ll see. It will probably just be cold. I hope you all have as much fun as we do this time of year. Remember This

Who remembers these? Obviously I do. This machine was given to me by my mother-in-law several years ago. And yes we do still use it. Last summer, we had very little rain. Our water source is a spring. So in order to save the spring water, we washed our clothes on the wringer. Wringer washers use much less water than automatic washers. It was a lot of fun. The girls really enjoyed it. Now however it will be much easier to use. My hubby hooked it up in his wood working shop. Am I special or what? It now has hot and cold water at the touch of a faucet. It also has it’s own drain. No more carrying water to fill it up and then carrying water to empty it. I know the body of the machine looks pretty “rustic”. It works great though and thats what counts. Well, I thought some of you might like a trip down memory lane. Have a great day and God Bless.

Christmas Cactus

What do you all think about my Christmas cactus? Ain’t it pretty? It was given to me several years ago by a dear friend. I’m not very good with indoor flowers but this one has been beautiful every year. I quess I just have it in a good location. Thanks, Barbara! I really enjoy it’s color so I thought I would share it with everyone. Today is a very dreary day in Floyd. Rainy, foggy, windy, chilly. Yuk. No outside activities today, except carry in some wood for the fire. Oh well, it could be much worse. School has went very well today. We are learning about writing reports in language. Not very exciting but necessary information. Tonight is church night and the girls always look forward to Team Kids. They have lots of fun and learn about scripture too, so it makes them and us happy. If anyone wants to learn more about Team Kids, it is a program through Lifeway. You can go to their web page and find out all about it. We are still doing the Beth Moore study on the Fruit of the Spirit on Wednesday night. Pretty good study. Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to my sweet baby girl!! Yesterday was party day. Best Friends celebrating together. Life is good. Yellow cake with chocolate icing and only a few sprinkles (just the way she likes it). Yesterday, Hubby and his brother went out to cut more wood and today he is going with our friend from church. Hopefully lots to split and stack. He is deer hunting this morning , something he truly enjoys, and something we all truly enjoy eating. Good Luck, hon. I’m not sure what the girls and I will get into yet. There is always something to do around here. Tomorrow we hear another trial sermon from the candidate for pastor. We will have another fellowship meal after church. We also start our new study on Revelation from John MacArthur tomorrow. I think the book of Revelation is one of the hardest books in the bible to understand and probably the most misunderstood. Hopefully, I will know a little more about it when this study is finished. Next Sunday we will vote on the pastor. I’m still not sure how to vote Yes. or NO. I’m still praying. I think this is a very BIG decision and I want to make sure I’m on the same page as God. Pray that all will go well and that we, as a church, will vote according to God’s will. Well, better get busy. StripesT

This is our kitty. You know, the one Mom said would never be in the house. Rule #1 Never say Never. The girls begged for an inside cat and finally we gave in. So now this furball is part of our life. She does occasionally have her good moments. However the girls love her dearly so I guess she stays. Thanks Grace for the picture. Today has been cool and overcast. Fog is, thankfully, gone. Hubby had a great time shooting yesterday. He hopes to go again soon. We have been without a pastor for several months. Today we heard a trial sermon from a prospective pastor, with a fellowship meal following the sermon. (Gotta have our food). He will preach again next Sunday. Then the church will vote. I’m not sure my feelings on this yet. I’m still praying. Tonight we will hear Mike Wingfield preach at a neighboring church. I’m sure it will be interesting. Gotta Go. God Bless.

Fall Pictures

Here’s some pictures taken on the back side of our road. It is a very beautiful drive. We’ve been down to Dave and Jess’ for a few days working on the bathroom project. Making progress. Commode is set and walls are ready for paint. Jess hopes to have it ready in time for Thanksgiving. I think we’ll make it in time. Temperatures here are nice today. Upper 60’s. The sun is shining. A beautiful fall day. Dad is home and has suggested a hike on one of the many trials here on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The girls are hurrying to finish school and get ready for the hike. It promises to be a really nice afternoon. I hope everyone enjoys their afternoon as much as I am planning on enjoying mine. God Bless.

Cold Temperatures

Well, I have no picture for today. The time now is 4:30 and the temperature is 35 with rain. I laughingly told the girls we might get snow but now I’m thinking it might really be a possibility. We really haven’t gotten much snow here in the last 6 years just lots of cold and ice. I’d much rather have snow. School has went very well this week so far. 3 chapter tests. They made good grades on them which makes me think they are learning. Tonight is Team Kids at church and handbell practice for them. They really enjoy both. I don’t know if any of you all are familar with Team Kids but it really is a good program. It’s a lot like Awana but does not require as many adult workers so it works well for smaller churches. ( or larger churches with few volunteers!) Every week they meet, have a bible study, game time, snack time, and learn a memory verse. I think it is so important for children to memorize verses. Store His Word in their heart. Important stuff.

Well I quess I need to get moving if we are going to church. We have a fellowship meal at 5:30 and you know I don’t want to miss that. I suppose everyone who reads my blog think all we do at church is eat but we really do study and worship God. The food is just extra. God Bless

Canned Food

Here’s a few pictures of all the hard work the girls and I have been doing this summer. Ain’t God good! So much good home grown food. I love it. Julie took the pictures for me and I think she did a good job. I went shopping today and purchased enough material for 9 more aprons. I have sold all my dishcloths. I have 2 aprons left and 2 quilts. I gotta get busy. I also have some orders for Christmas to get made. Today we went to a fall party at our friends house and the girls had so much fun. Thanks Vicki! I also bought some tea today (Christmas flavors). So now every day at school we’ll be having a tea break. Homeschool is so much fun. Tomorrow is Sunday so I guess I better get busy doing my study on Daniel. God Bless.

Pretty

Today has been a foggy, cool day in Floyd, so I thought we would all enjoy some summer flowers. I love fall but I do dread to see the flowers disappear. My grandmother loved flowers and I like to think my love of flowers comes from her. One of my fondest memories of her involves her holding my hand, taking me through her yard and telling me the names of all her flowers. So not only do they remind me of summer but also of her. Today was one of those homeschooling days when you just know it’s all worth it. School went by steady without interruption. The girls were focused and so was I. A good day. Sometimes as a homeschooling Mom, I wonder “Am I really doing this right?” Thank God for days like today. It’s almost like God wants me to know every now and then that I am doing exactly what He wants me to be doing. Tomorrow I will be seeing an old friend. We don’t get to see each other very often as we now live far apart. I can’t wait to see her and get caught up on things. True friendship is hard to find and I value her greatly as a friend and also as a Christian Sister. I now have dinner to cook. Tonights menu is baked pork tenderloin, potatoes, (fresh dug from the garden) and canned green beans (also from our garden). I also baked fresh gingerbread to go with it. What do you all think? Wet & Foggy

Today has been a wet, foggy day in Floyd. Temperatures only about 60 for the high. Not much can be done outside when the weather is like this. So today we settled in for a day of half school. This means we only do half our normal lessons which made the girls very happy. A day for reading, baking, and enjoying being a stay at home wife. I believe blessings come in disquise sometimes, just to see if we’ll recognize them. Thank you Lord, that I can stay at home, teach my girls and snuggle in for a foggy day. God Bless.
