This was the view this morning from my kitchen window as I washed the morning dishes.  Am I a blessed woman or what?  We did get to have our Ladies Study today.  Hallelujah!  The snow has not started yet.  They are predicting 10-13 inches.  This will probably mean no church on Sunday which of course makes for a long week.  However if all goes as planned Jess and crew will be coming up next weekend.  She wants us to sew her some maternity clothes.  We will be going to a local fabric store called Schoolhouse Fabrics.  They have 3 stories full of nothing but cloth.  Then we will come home and snuggle in for 2 days of sewing, and of course lots of MawMaw time.  I can hardly wait!  It is almost supper time.  Tonights menu is one of Hubby’s favorite.  Fried chicken, gravy, corn and biscuits.  I think I’ll throw in some cooked apples too.  YUM!  Are you hungry yet?  Well, I am.  Guess I better get started frying that chicken.  God Bless.

My Sticky Buns

Well, what do you all think?  Not to be bragging,  but they look pretty good, huh.  Okay so maybe I am bragging a little!  They did turn out pretty good though and they tasted good too.  The good news is we finally have water in our bathroom.   On Wednesday, our temperatures got above freezing, finally.  I’m not completely sure but I think we have not been above freezing since Dec. 18 when the snow came.  Actually there were many days were didn’t get out of the single digits.  I know you all have heard this before, but I really don’t like cold weather.  Anyway, yesterday, we got in the lower 40’s.  The girls thought it was spring time.  On Wednesday we went to visit our friends, the Horn’s.  We returned to find no water pressure in the house, which of course indicates a problem.  Usually this means a water leak somewhere.  After much checking, we discover a busted water line in the little house building (where my wringer washer is).  The line had frozen and when it thawed the old pipe just couldn’t take the pressure.  This required much quick thinking on part of Hubby, as water is gushing out of the pipe.  Thank God for hubbies!  He quickly fixed this problem and before the night was out our bathroom thawed  also.  Thankfully, no leaks.  School today as usual.  We are not meeting for our Friday Ladies Class.  One of our ladies is gone on a trip and the other one has car trouble.  Hopefully next week all will fall back in place.  I really miss when we don’t get to meet.  These ladies are like family to me.  Well, I better get to work.  Oh, I wanted to let you all know, it is 9:00 A.M. and the temperature is already 30 degrees.  WOW!  God Bless.

Near Disaster

100_2691

Sometimes I wonder at the intelligence of this pup we have brought here to the farm.  About 2:00 this morning, I hear what I think is the coyotes going through.  This is not uncommon as we have quite a few coyotes here in Floyd.  Then I hear Shadow(old dog) barking like crazy.  Still not uncommon as he does not allow the coyotes to come to close to the house.  After this my sleep induced brain makes out another sound.  Jasper (young dog) in great distress.  I open the upstairs window but cannot see him, however, his distress is getting louder.  Hubby gets up and we quickly run outside to see what is going on.  Jasper has somehow managed to get in the pond.  However, he cannot get out because of the ice.  He is whimpering so loud and struggling to get out of the water with his front paws, however they can’t get any traction on the ice.  We have no idea how long this had been going on before we were awakened but he seemed to be pretty tired and definitely very scared.  I run back up to the house and get a long pole.  George uses it to break the ice on the edge but it was frozen so thick he couldn’t do much good.  Finally he has some success.  He takes the pole and pushes Jasper down the edge of the ice until  he gets to the closest place to the ground.  The pup is still struggling to get out but can’t.  I lay down flat on the ice and stretch forward and manage to grasp a front paw and pull him out.  He was extremely grateful and extremely cold.  We brought him into the house and dried him off as best we could.  As a special reward for all his hard work (and ours) he stayed in the house the remainder of the night to warm up.  I think he liked that part.  Here is another picture showing more details.Jasper

This entire adventure took about 1 hour.  We are very thankful for the warmer temperature last night.  This would have been terrible with below zero temps.  We are also thankful Jasper seems okay, as we have all come to love him.  Well, that was our night.  God Bless.

Doll Bunkbed

100_2643

Hubby’s latest  project.  A doll bed for Barbara’s grandchild.  I hope she likes it.  It was a lot of fun making.  It fits the American girl dolls or any 18″ dolls.  We will deliver it this evening.  We are going over to our friends, the Horns, for tacos tonight.   The girls can hardly wait.  The ice storm predicted for this morning didn’t happen.  I’m glad.  Dave, Jess, and Daniel will be here tomorrow about lunch time.  I think we’ll have ham, baked beans, pasta salad and homemade rolls.  Maybe red velvet cake for dessert.  Sounds pretty good!  Guess I better get started on some of that food.  Happy New Year and God Bless.

Remember This

100_2449

Who remembers these?  Obviously I do.  This machine was given to me by my mother-in-law several years ago.  And yes we do still use it.   Last summer, we had very little rain.  Our water source is a spring.  So in order to save the spring water, we washed our clothes on the wringer.  Wringer washers use much less water than automatic washers.  It was a lot of fun.  The girls really enjoyed it.  Now however it will be much easier to use.  My hubby hooked it up in his wood working shop.  Am I special or what?  It now has hot and cold water at the touch of a faucet.  It also has it’s own drain.  No more carrying  water to fill it up and then carrying water to empty it.  I know the body of the machine looks pretty “rustic”.  It works great though and thats what counts.  Well, I thought some of you might like a trip down memory lane.  Have a great day and God Bless.

New Project

100_2315

My latest project.  Today has been a rainy, cold, windy, and just plain ucky day.  So I decided it was a good day to start a new project.   I worked on this quilt top all day.  What do you think?  The big pieces are called fat quarters.  Those of you who quilt know all about these, but I am just learning.  I think they are pretty neat.  How else could someone who knows very little about quilting make a quilt top in one day.  Hubby helped some with the design, then hurriedly left the room.  Thanks Babe. Quilting is one of those things I wish I had learned to do at an earlier age, when I would have lots of instructors to help me learn.  However I have had to basically teach myself what I know.  I really enjoy doing it though.  Hubby got a shot at a deer today, however the distance was too far.  Better luck next time!  Gotta get to work.  God Bless.

Wood

Here’s our wood supply so far.  What do you think?  Enough for winter?  The back goes 7 rows deep.  Lots of work thats for sure.  But some surprises too.  I found 2 little black kittens in the pile we were moving today.  The mommy cat had them hid really well.  They were scared but friendly and of course very cute.  Weather was very nice for wood splitting.  Short sleeve weather.  Tomorrow is a slight chance of rain so I’m glad the wood is in the dry.  I am baking amish friendship bread this evening.  It has been a 10 day process but I think it is going to be worth it.  It smells WONDERFUL.  I can’t wait to taste it.  Hubby didn’t get a deer yet but we did have one donated to us.   Thanks, Eldon!  We’ve had tenderloin and gravy for breakfast two days in a row.  Good stuff.  Well, I’m pretty tired, all that wood is hard work.  God Bless.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to my sweet baby girl!!  Yesterday was party day.  Best Friends celebrating together.  Life is good.  Yellow cake with chocolate icing and only a few sprinkles (just the way she likes it).   Yesterday, Hubby and his brother went out to cut more wood and today he is going with our friend from church.  Hopefully lots to split and stack.  He is deer hunting this morning , something he truly enjoys, and something we all truly enjoy eating.  Good Luck, hon.  I’m not sure what the girls and I will get into yet.  There is always something to do around here.   Tomorrow we hear another trial sermon from the candidate for pastor.  We will have another fellowship meal after church.  We also start our new study on Revelation from John MacArthur tomorrow.  I think the book of Revelation is one of the hardest books in the bible to understand and probably the most misunderstood.  Hopefully, I will know a little more about it when this study is finished.   Next Sunday we will vote on the pastor.  I’m still not sure how to vote Yes. or NO.  I’m still praying.  I think this is a very BIG decision and I want to make sure I’m on the same page as God.  Pray that all will go well and that we, as a church, will vote according to God’s will.  Well, better get busy.  God Bless.

StripesT

This is our kitty.  You know, the one Mom said would never be in the house.  Rule #1 Never say Never.   The girls begged for an inside cat and finally we gave in.  So now this furball is part of our life.  She does occasionally have her good moments.   However the girls love her dearly so I guess she stays.  Thanks Grace for the picture.   Today has been cool and overcast.  Fog is, thankfully, gone.  Hubby had a great time shooting yesterday.  He hopes to go again soon.  We have been without a pastor for several months.  Today we heard a trial sermon from a prospective pastor, with a fellowship meal following the sermon.  (Gotta have our food).   He will preach again next Sunday.  Then the church will vote.  I’m not sure my feelings on this yet.  I’m still praying.  Tonight we will hear Mike Wingfield preach at a neighboring church.  I’m sure it will be interesting.  Gotta Go.  God Bless.

P.E. Class

Every day the weather permits the girls try to take Jasper on a walk.  They want to teach him how to walk on a lease.  They call this their P.E. class.  They walk to the top of the hill on the tractor road.   As you can tell, the kitten goes too.  Sometimes, however, Dad has a real P.E. class for them.  Anyone who has ever moved much wood knows what a workout that can be.  It was a beautiful day for working outside.  A litte windy, as usual, but warm with lots of sunshine.  The last two days, however, have not been so nice.  Lots of fog and wet.  Oh well.  The girls were probably glad for the fog.  The splitter was loaned to us from a friend at church.  We are very thankful for the use of it.  Splitting wood by hand, I think, is a young man job.  The older we get the harder it is to do.  So thanks again, Dale.  We appreciate it.   Hubby is gone today with other church members to shoot some clays.  The place, I think, is called Primland and that’s about all I know.  They go there quite often.  George has been looking forward to going with them for quite some time.  They seem to always have lots of fun.  Tonight is our Halloween Alternative at church.  We call it Christfest.  Lots of fun.  Dress Up-kids and adults.  Lots of games and candy.  I will try to get some pictures to post so you all can see what fun it really is.  I pray everyone enjoys the children tonight and that everyone will be safe.  In my Daily Bread devotional today, it talks about children tonight filling their bags with candy and then it asks “What are we filling our vessels with?”  Think about it tonight every time you drop candy in a child’s bag.  If we are not filled with the Holy Spirit, we leave room for other things to fill us.  End of sermon.  God Bless.
