Before and Now

I thought you all might enjoy seeing how much snow we have. I wanted to give you something to judge by, so I found the picture of the rock area in summer and then how it looks this morning. And guess what? It’s still snowing. Perhaps most of the day. Wow! This is definitely a record year for snow accumulation here. But you know, even with all the snow we’ve had, I still think it is beautiful. When it is fresh and bright white, it is georgeous. However, one can only stand so much white, right. I am ready to see some yellow, purple, red. Some pansies would be nice, right Jess. Well, everything has a season. I think I want to enjoy this season and what God wants to bless us with instead of wishing for something else. I’m working on this process, anyway.

I made a honey bun cake yesterday. It turned out really good. The recipe called for sour cream. I did not have any and as we are snowed in couldn’t just run to the store to get some. I went on line (what would we do without the internet) and found a substitute for sour cream. Put 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice in a cup-add enough milk to make 1 cup. It really works. I could not taste the difference. Well, I thinks I’ll get busy watching the snow. God Bless.

Golden Hills

This was the view this morning from my kitchen window as I washed the morning dishes. Am I a blessed woman or what? We did get to have our Ladies Study today. Hallelujah! The snow has not started yet. They are predicting 10-13 inches. This will probably mean no church on Sunday which of course makes for a long week. However if all goes as planned Jess and crew will be coming up next weekend. She wants us to sew her some maternity clothes. We will be going to a local fabric store called Schoolhouse Fabrics. They have 3 stories full of nothing but cloth. Then we will come home and snuggle in for 2 days of sewing, and of course lots of MawMaw time. I can hardly wait! It is almost supper time. Tonights menu is one of Hubby’s favorite. Fried chicken, gravy, corn and biscuits. I think I’ll throw in some cooked apples too. YUM! Are you hungry yet? Well, I am. Guess I better get started frying that chicken. God Bless.

Cinnamon Rolls

I made cinnamon rolls yesterday. Sorry for the small picture. I am having trouble with my blog pictures. I need some help, Dave!! Anyway this was my first attempt at cinnamon rolls. Jess has made them several times so I thought I would try my hand at them. They turned out pretty good. Well, it is still cold here. About 5 degrees with a wind chill of about -15 or more. Wind gusts of about 40 miles an hour today and tomorrow. Needless to say our water in the bathroom is still frozen. The girls had their first experience with washing their hair the old way today. Not a lot of fun but better than nothing, at least we are clean. It’s time for school to start so I better get busy. Stay warm and God Bless.

Apron

My first out of state order. Okay, so it goes to my cousin in Kansas but it counts anyway. Well, the big news here is Jess went yesterday for her ultra sound and IT’S A BOY!!!! My heart is happy. It amazes me to think of how good the God I serve is. To come from being a woman who thought she would have no babies to being blessed with children is just an example of how God loves to surprise His children. God is good!! Temperatures here are still cold. The high today is 24 degrees, wind chill of about 15. This is the warmest temperatures we have had in about one week. We have managed to keep the water running in the kitchen, but the bathroom has been frozen for several days. Oh well, at least we still have water. We went down to Jessica’s yesterday to watch Daniel while she went for her ultra sound. It was 32 degrees when we left her house, got back home to 16 degrees with a wind chill of about zero or below. Have I mentioned I do not like cold weather? This will make me appreciate spring more when it comes, right. I am making homemade rolls today and it is time to put them in the oven. Better go. Wall Hanging

This is my latest project. What do you’ll think? I have never been very good at hand sewing, however I have decided to hand sew each of my girls a wall hanging. Notice I did not say quilt(much too big a project). I thought though that a wall hanging would be do-able for me. I gave this one to Jess and plan to start one for Julie soon, then Grace. It really was a lot of fun. I guess because it was kinda different for me. I always enjoy trying new projects. Well the big news around here is the temperature. COLD!!! The actual temperature was around zero this morning with a wind chill of somewhere around 15 or 20 below. VERY COLD!!! Dave and Jess and Daniel came up this weekend. Of course, they are now accustomed to more southernly temperatures so they were very cold. But then we were very cold too. I really pray it doesn’t stay this cold all winter but I do recall one January about 5 years ago, the temperatures stayed like this for the entire month. Have I mentioned I don’t really like cold. Oh well, maybe this will kill out all the squash bugs that attacked our garden last year. We will (hopefully) find out Tuesday if Jess is having a boy or a girl. Sometimes those babies are shy and don’t want to let anyone know. Anyway she is starting to show her pregnancy and getting some flutterings which is very exciting. It was very good to have them up this weekend, they had not been here since Halloween and thats way too long. It’s almost time for our Sunday Night Study so I guess I better get busy. I’m taking leftovers from yesterday’s feast. God Bless.

Doll Bunkbed

Hubby’s latest project. A doll bed for Barbara’s grandchild. I hope she likes it. It was a lot of fun making. It fits the American girl dolls or any 18″ dolls. We will deliver it this evening. We are going over to our friends, the Horns, for tacos tonight. The girls can hardly wait. The ice storm predicted for this morning didn’t happen. I’m glad. Dave, Jess, and Daniel will be here tomorrow about lunch time. I think we’ll have ham, baked beans, pasta salad and homemade rolls. Maybe red velvet cake for dessert. Sounds pretty good! Guess I better get started on some of that food. Happy New Year and God Bless.

Good Morning!

I thought everyone might enjoy a little sunrise. God decided to sent us this beautiful sunrise yesterday morning and I certainly was glad. Whenever I see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, it always reminds me of the majesty and power of God. I think we all need a little reminding sometimes. Nothing much going on here. School as normal. Things are getting back to our normal routine. It was very cold here this morning. Lots of wind. The actual temperature was about 14 but the wind chill was much colder. Hopefully, weather permitting, Jess and Dave will come up this weekend. I need me some MawMaw time. She will be going for her ultra-sound soon to find out if the baby is a boy or girl! I’ll let everyone know when we know. The girls are wanting me to play a game with them before school starts. I better go. Playtime awaits. God Bless.

Snow

Today is a beautiful day here in Floyd. Lots of snow. It’s really hard to get an accurate measurement here because of the wind but we know we got at least 8-10 inches, drifts are much deeper. The girls have already played in the snow and we have made snow cream. For those of you who do not know what snow cream is, you put snow in a large container, add sugar, vanilla and evaporated milk. Stir it up with a mixer and you have snow cream. Very good! The amount of ingredients vary so just keep tasting until you get it right. This is a favorite of ours whenever we get snow. I think today is a quilting day. You know one of those days where I just snuggle in with a project and enjoy the life the Good Lord has given me. I guess there will be no church tomorrow. I really miss going to church but it just can’t be helped. The roads are too bad to go anywhere. Jess even got snow in N.C. I wish I could see Daniel’s face when he gets to play in it. They do not get snow very often there. So it will be a treat for him. Well, I think I hear my quilt project calling my name. Enjoy your day and God Bless.

Ice

It appears as if winter might be here to stay. We awoke this morning to ice. Not too bad but enough to be pretty. I would much rather have the snow from the weekend but I’ll have to take whatever God sends our way. Not a lot happening here in Floyd. Just winter coming on. School as usual. Getting ready for Christmas. The tree and all the decorations are up. Christmas music, which I love, playing on the radio. Life if good! I know I say that a lot but I really believe it. I am so blessed. God has given me so many blessings. My husband, my kid, my grandkids. I live in a beautiful home and have a wonderful church. For me, life really is good and I am thankful to God for His blessings. (My sermon for the day). The ice is melting quickly and temperatures are warming up. Our next spell of winter mix is for Saturday. I had hoped to go visit Jess on Saturday but I guess that might not happen. Depends on the weather. Well, break time is over and school time begins. Christfest

Pictures from Christfest Saturday night. My girls wore puddle skirts, Daniel is Spider Man, David is Wafer Man and Jess is dressed as a devil. It was a GREAT surprise when they came to the party. I had thought they were going to stay at their house to give away candy. Change of plans, which made MawMaw very happy. Julie, Grace, and Daniel had a great time playing the games and getting candy. Everyone probably noticed I spelled the cats name wrong on my last post. I noticed it too, but did not know how to change it. Her name is Stripes. Anyway, I guess I need to use spell check. We went down to Dave and Jess’ for a few days, worked some more on their bathroom. The shower stall is now tiled. We have to put the grout on our next trip. We worked very hard today, splitting and stacking wood. No school today just work. The girls would rather do school than work this hard, but as I told them we will appreciate it this winter. I have been blessed with very good girls. They work hard and complain very little. They had fun too. They make work into a game and that makes it fun. It was a very beautiful day. Lots of sunshine, temperature around 50 degrees. Very nice for working outside. It’s 6:00 and already dark, however, I do like the fact that it gets daylight earlier. I have always been a morning person. Well, it time for me to get some stuff done. God Bless.
