Apron

This is my first little girl apron.  I made this one for my granddaughter, Alexius.  I am sure there are many things I did wrong as I am just learning how to read patterns.  Most of the time, I did not know what the pattern was telling me to do so I just figured it out my way and did it.  I used some old material I had,  just in case I messed up.  I thought it would be better to practice some with the new machine.

Temperatures are very cold here again.  Wind chill this morning was -10 degrees.  The wind has been whipping all day, gusts up in the 50 mph range.  Our snow is now blown into 2-3 ft drifts.  The predictions are, though,  for it to warm up by the weekend.  I certainly hope so.

I think I will go work on another apron pattern.  This time, I think I will try the pattern I am wanting to make to sell.  I need to practice on it some and besides I can always enjoy a new apron.  Take care and God bless.

Sunday

Yesterday was such a fun day for us.  We decided to take the girls to the movies as part of their Christmas gift.  As we very seldom go to the movies, this was a big treat.  We found (thanks to our friends, the Horns) a movie theater that is affordable and family friendly.  We watched The Chronicles of Narnia-Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  It was a very good movie and we all had a great time.  Grace has read the book and Julie is in process now of reading it.

Also, as my aprons are now being sold in a local store, I thought it would be nice to try out some different patterns.  I had been told it would be nice if I could do matching aprons.  One for Mom (or MawMaw)and one for a little girl.  I found a pattern I like pretty well.  Here is a picture of it.

Not exactly what I was looking for but a good place to start.

This is the material I picked out.  The floral will be the main material and the striped will be the contrasting material.  What do you all think?   I am having difficulties with my sewing maching, so pray I can get it up and running soon.  (Could be the operator, who knows!)  Anyway, I am excited to start a new project and upping my abilities.  I have not made many things from a real pattern.  Usually, its something I just figure out on my own or I alter the pattern so that it fits my abilities.  Sally, our pastor’s wife, has agreed to help me if I get in over my head.  I don’t think I will though.  It looks pretty easy on paper.  I will show you the finished results when done.

I think I’ll go check out my machine.  Take care and God bless.

Our First Decoration

100_4878

This is our first decoration of the season.  I like to use decoration that will work for all winter, not just for Christmas.  This is due to laziness on my part.  I so enjoy putting them up but not so much taking them down.  This way I get to leave them up longer.   Both my girls are sick, so today has been a rather slow day for us.  We only did what we call “half school” which was bible, math and language.  Then we took a break, went up to the building and found our little village.   This village sets every year on this table.  When the girls were younger, it was continuously getting rearranged.  They would play with the houses and the people for hours.   My dad built this table for my mom when they first got married.  There is a shelf underneath and when I was a little girl, my golden book collection sat on the lower shelf.  Funny, the things we remember.   After decorating, we enjoyed a game of cards and now they are upstairs playing a board game.  I so enjoy days like today-just sorry my girls don’t feel well.

It is chilly here with rain moving in.  A good day for enjoying the fire and each other.  I pray your day has been as enjoyable as mine.  God bless.

Fishing Day

I thought this was just the cutest picture.  This little girl was so intent on her fishing pole.  Look close you can see her little bare toes sticking out from under her dress.  You can also notice her hair is wet.  She sat on this drain pipe through a little shower we had.  She did not want to give up her spot.  I heard we had over 100 people there Saturday. I think they said about 300 lbs. of trout were caught.  The kids had a great time.  Lots of fun and fellowship.  Afterward, we went shopping for a few things.  Hubby needed to replenish some of his electrical supplies.  Yesterday was church, went into town to pick up some ink for the printer.  When we got home, I made some baked beans to take to Sunday Evening Class.  Then we worked some on our homework.   Sunday Night’s menu was pigs in the blanket, baked beans, chips and  homemade dip, a pasta dish, coleslaw.  For dessert peach pie, ice cream and a dessert that Becky makes that I forgot the name of.  (Happens as I get older)  Temperatures have been cool here with quite a lot of rain.  We haven’t gotten all of our garden planted because it has just been too wet.  Hopefully this week we will get it finished.  I am, of course, washing clothes today.  Lots of clothes!  I guess they will have to be dried inside as it looks like the sun will not shine today. Tomorrow the girls and I are going down to Jessica’s to watch Daniel while she goes for an ultra sound.  Samuel is just about ready to be here.  Just a couple more weeks, maybe sooner.  Pray for a healthy and easy delivery for him and for her.  I better get busy.  Take care and God bless.

Wheat

Today was spent running errands.  The girls had dentists appointments this morning.  We left home at 9:00 as it takes about an hour to get to Roanoke from here.    After their appointments, we spent some time in Lifeway.  I picked out several studies I think the ladies will enjoy doing.  Then we went to Toys R Us.  The girls wanted to look around.

When the girls were younger, we always called Roanoke “big big town, Christiansburg was “big town” and Floyd (our town) was called “little town” .  So we came back, went to “little town” and picked up the wheat I had ordered.  It is called Prairie Gold.  It is a hard white spring wheat.  It can be used in all baking, from bread to cookies.  The price was $25.00 for a 50 lb. bag.  Pretty good price.  Tomorrow I hope to make cinnamon rolls to share with a friend on Thursday.  If I’m really industrious, maybe a loaf of bread too.  Our snow is melting more each day.  Temperature today was about 60 degrees.  I went out on my back porch and sat on my porch swing.  I love porch swings.  When I was a little girl, my grandmother had a porch swing and I have loved them ever since.  To me, nothing says relaxing more than a swing, so I have 1 porch swing and 2 yard swings.  All made for me by my loving Hubby.  The girls have had 2 tree swings since they were very small and still enjoy them.  I guess we’re just “a swingin” bunch.   Take care and God bless.
