Little Angels

Hi everyone!  I hope you are all having a great week.  Things have been nice here.  Warm temperatures and sunshine.  I LOVE it!  I know it won’t last but it sure is nice for now.  We did build a fire yesterday and I already have one going this morning but it is December, right.  I thought I would share with you all a fun craft we did at church Saturday.

But, of course, we had to eat first.  Can you see the red striped dish in this picture?  I would have never guess what that is.  It is turnips!!  I have never seen turnips that look like that.  They were really good though.  I would like to find out the name of them.  That would be the type I would like to have next year.  The lady who brought them didn’t know anything about them.  She had bought them at a local store.  If any of you know the name of them, I would appreciate you letting me know.

A lady from our church had all these little terra cotta pots.  She painted them for us.  Actually she did all the prep work for the craft day.  All we had to do was put everything together.  I wanted to get detailed pictures for you all but once we started on them, everything went too fast.  Anyway, here is the finished product.

Aren’t they cute!  I made the red one, Grace made the purple, Julie’s is next and we all worked on the pink one.  It is for Jess.  I think they are adorable.  They are supposed to be ornaments but we don’t have our tree up yet.  As of now, they are brightening up our dining room window sill.

Well, time for us to get started on school.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Apples

Monday, the girls and I went to the pastor’s home to pick apples.

He has about 10 trees (I think) and they all look like this one.  We picked three 100 lb. feed sacks full.  I am estimating each sack holds 1 and 1/2 bushel of apples.  So that means we got close to 5 bushels of apples.  At our local store, apples are selling for $20.00 a bushel.  That means I have about $100.00 of apples sitting in my kitchen that were just gave to me.  God is good!!  They also gave us the last of their grapes-about 1 bushel.  Yesterday, the girls and I juiced the grapes they gave us and did one batch of juice from our grapes.  We also did a batch of apples in the juicer and tried a new recipe crockpot maple apple jam.  It is very good.  It reminds me of apple butter but has a distinctive maple taste.

We picked the last of our grapes today-about 1/2 bushel.  We put them in the fridge for today.  Maybe we will just eat on them for a while instead of juicing them.  I hope to do more apples this evening but I’m not sure.  We might have to wait until tomorrow to start on them.  I am wanting to try a new recipe I saw for apple pie using honey instead of sugar.  It looked really good.

Well, I guess that’s all that has been going on around here-just grapes and apples.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Sunday

Yesterday was such a fun day for us.  We decided to take the girls to the movies as part of their Christmas gift.  As we very seldom go to the movies, this was a big treat.  We found (thanks to our friends, the Horns) a movie theater that is affordable and family friendly.  We watched The Chronicles of Narnia-Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  It was a very good movie and we all had a great time.  Grace has read the book and Julie is in process now of reading it.

Also, as my aprons are now being sold in a local store, I thought it would be nice to try out some different patterns.  I had been told it would be nice if I could do matching aprons.  One for Mom (or MawMaw)and one for a little girl.  I found a pattern I like pretty well.  Here is a picture of it.

Not exactly what I was looking for but a good place to start.

This is the material I picked out.  The floral will be the main material and the striped will be the contrasting material.  What do you all think?   I am having difficulties with my sewing maching, so pray I can get it up and running soon.  (Could be the operator, who knows!)  Anyway, I am excited to start a new project and upping my abilities.  I have not made many things from a real pattern.  Usually, its something I just figure out on my own or I alter the pattern so that it fits my abilities.  Sally, our pastor’s wife, has agreed to help me if I get in over my head.  I don’t think I will though.  It looks pretty easy on paper.  I will show you the finished results when done.

I think I’ll go check out my machine.  Take care and God bless.
