Grace and Sam

Grace and Sam are pretty big buddies.  She is usually his watcher and Julie has Daniel.  As you can see, Sam must be barricaded away from the construction zone.  He is just a little bit too much help.

He looks a little sad, don’t he?

The electrical is all done and the ceiling is hung.  Monday we will hang the walls and start putting the mud on (hopefully).  After that, the new floor goes down.   Hubby will be building her a pantry to go beside her new stove.

The boys were very happy when they were allowed inside the construction zone to help.  They worked very hard pulling up the old tile.  Daniel would pull it up with his special tool and Sam would carry it to the trash.  Very good helpers.

Temperatures here are very cold.  Wind gusts of about 40 mph with an actual temperature of 13 degrees, putting the wind chill below zero.  Our wood stove has been working hard keeping us nice and warm inside though.  I hope you all have a great weekend and stay warm.  God bless.

Update on Facelift

100_8939

Hello ladies.  Just a quick update on our progress so far.  Here is a picture of the ceiling just as we were beginning to tear it all down.

100_8954

After tearing down all the ceiling this is what it looked like.  We now have 10 recessed lights in the ceiling but I didn’t get any pictures of that.  We came home late this evening to feed up all the animals.  We’ll be leaving early in the morning to go back and work some more.  Tomorrow we hope to get the lights finished and start hanging the sheet rock.  We also will be tearing up the old floor and putting down a new laminate flooring.  We will have to do some leveling of the floor first though.

Her new stove was delivered today.  She is so happy with it.  Her old stove was just a stove top with the oven built into the wall,  probably an early 70’s model.  If you look in the background you will see the old oven.   This will be coming out and Hubby will be building her a pantry to take it’s place.  They also plan on painting the cabinets.

Well, that’s all for tonight.  I hope to get caught up on everyone’s  blogs tonight but I’m not sure.  I’m pretty tired.  Please be in prayer for David.  He had surgery on his knee back in January and it still hurts him quite a lot.  It definitely is not healing as fast as we all thought it would.

Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Campfire

100_6510

While the kids were up this weekend, we had a campfire Friday night.  We love doing campfires, smores, wieners-sometimes potatoes.  Sometimes we just sit and watch the fire.  So relaxing.  Grace took this picture for me and I thought you all might like a little campfire too.

Hubby and I have been busy today working on building a shelving unit for the new room.  All my stuff is just piled up on the floor in there.  Such a mess.  Hopefully, by tomorrow, it will look much neater.

I gathered quite a few cucumbers this morning and I am planning on making some pickles this afternoon.  I have to check my pantry and see if I have all the ingredients.  I got a new recipe from a friend of mine that I want to try out.  The recipe is:

Crispy Pickle Slices-   4 qts cuc. sliced, 1/3 cup salt, 6 med onions sliced, 4 cups sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. turmeric, 2 tsp. celery salt, 2 tsp. mustard seed, 4 cups vinegar.  Sprinkle sliced cuc. with salt.  Stir with hands until salt is dissolved.  Cover with crushed ice.  Let stand 3 hr.  Drain.  Add onion.  Mix remaining ingredients with vinegar.  Pour over drained cuc. & onions.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and gently cook for 5 min.  Makes 6 pts.

So now that you all have heard the recipe, I have a question.  Have any of you ever mixed squash and cucumbers together to make pickles?  I was thinking of doing that and just wondered if anyone else had tried it.

Well, I better get busy.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

More Signs of Spring

I could hardly wait to post these pictures!  The crocus are so bright and beautiful.  The rhubarb is coming up nicely.  I LOVE SPRING!  This has been a busy week for us.  All day Tuesday spent in Roanoke at the eye doctor.  Wednesday was a fun day spent with our friends, the Horns.  Today has been a beautiful day here.  Temperature around 60 degrees.  We can hardly believe it.  I hung our clothes out on the line-they will smell sooooo good!   I plan on having london broil on the grill tonight, probably home fries and corn on the cob (from our garden last year).  I purchased some strawberries at the store today.  I usually don’t do that this early in the season but they looked so good.  Strawberry Shortcake for dessert tonight.  We usually go down to Jessica’s in early May.  There is a” pick your own” strawberry patch.  We love it.  We try to pick a lot, freeze them for winter.  We also make lots of fresh strawberry jam.  YUM!  Anyway I have a praise.  My truck is fixed!!!!  Hubby and his brother worked until dark last night but we are back on the road.  I never imagined how much I would miss that old truck until I had to jiggle my schedule with Hubby’s.  One vehicle can be a little trying to say the least.  The girls and I don’t go a lot of places but it sure is nice to be able to go when we want to.   I guess I better get busy cooking supper, Hubby is looking in the pantry so he must be hungry.  Take care and God bless.

New Cabinets!!!!

100_2160_00

Here’s a picture of our new cabinets.  Hubby designed and made them.  I love them!   The side pantry and the bottom cabinet has been made for a while.  The top one we just put in today.   I can’t wait to fill them up.  Old Farmhouses never have enough cabinets or closets.  The counter space will be used for a coffee area.100_2162

The Blue Willow Sugar Bowl belonged to my grandmother.  I just love old things.  They have so much character.  I think I need to grind some coffee and enjoy a cup.  God Bless.
