I just love to see a sunrise or a sunset. I think it comes from living in the mountains of southwest virginia. Where I grew up, you never saw either one. Our house was in what we call a “holler” so the view was blocked by the mountains. The sun would hit our yard about 11:00 and go down about 3:00. I guess thats one of the reasons I love living here in Floyd. In the summer, the sun is in our yard about 6:30 and leaves about 8:00. Lots of sunshine, which I love. This morning God put on another show for us to enjoy. Thank you Lord! School today as usual. It is hard to concentrate on school now though. We feel like we’re been let out of prison. The temperatue is warm, the snow is almost gone, so of course everyone wants to be outside instead of in. We try to mix a little of both so it doesn’t get to bad. Jasper (young dog) had his first experience with a skunk last night. Not very pleasant. I tried a remedy one of the ladies from church told me about. I sprayed him with Febreeze. It actually helped quite a lot. He still smells but not as bad. I don’t have to cook tonight, we are eating at church. Roast beef and potatoes with all the trimmings. It has been a long time since we went to church on Wednesday night. When the weather is bad, they call it off. I am definitely looking forward to going tonight. The girls are involved in TeamKids there at church. They alternate Wednesdays doing childrens choir and handbells. They really enjoy the handbells. The adults are doing a Beth Moore study on the fruit of the spirit. It has been a really good study so far, however we are pretty far behind because of the bad weather we’ve had this winter. They have decided not to watch the video that goes with it, in order to hopefully get it finished in May. Guess I better get ready to go. Take care and God bless.
More Snow
More snow! We already have about 3 more inches and as you can see it is still coming down. It is supposed to snow all day today and tomorrow. Wow! I think it is going to be a snuggle in weekend. I hope to work on Grace’s quilt this weekend, maybe make a few aprons, have fun with my girls, make a pot of coffee to share with my hubby. Our front porch is enclosed with glass. We love to sit out there, drink coffee and watch it snow. All the beauty without the cold. I have a beef roast on the wood stove cooking. I haven’t decided what to put with this yet, probably potatoes and carrots. Yesterday’s menu was meatloaft, mashed potatoes, green beans, mac & cheese, and biscuits. School today as usual, maybe make some snow cream later. Enjoy your day and God Bless.
Dreaming of Summer
I’ve probably posted this picture before, but I thought we might all need a little color today. The Butterfly bush and the Rose of Sharon are always full of brillant color. The rocks came from over the hill on the farm. I got Marvin to bring them over on the tractor. He said this was a first for him, usually people want to get the rocks out of their yard not put them in. I think however it adds to the charm. Today temperatures will probably be in the upper 20’s. They say a chance of wintry mix for Friday. February is almost here though. Somehow in my mind, in February, my thoughts turn to spring, gardening, flowers, sunshine. Winter, however, does allow more time for things like sewing, quilting, crocheting. I am almost finished with Julie’s quilted wall hanging. I will post a picture of it when I’m finished. I attempted to make homemade hamburger buns yesterday. I do not own a hamburger bun pan so I thought I might could put them in my cast iron biscuit pan. Not a good idea. The tasted good, however, they looked like jumbo muffins. We ate them last night covered with cooked deer and gravy and mashed potatoes. No one seemed to mind how they looked. I don’t like to give up though so I will try another approach next time. Well, better get started on school. God Bless.
Ice Skating
I know I’m going from one extreme to the next with my pictures, but I thought you all might enjoy a view from my front window. It’s actually quite pretty( if you like the look of ice). I am getting a little tired of looking at it though. We’re hoping for a warm up soon, especially concerning the bathroom water lines. I don’t think I mentioned yesterday but our potatoes also froze in the canning building. Ok, enough “woe is me” stuff. Life is still good and God is still in control. Today is the start of a new week. School as usual. I am thinking of making another batch of cinnamon rolls as the first ones seemed to go pretty good. Sometimes, making desserts here is a waste of time and money as we do not eat a lot of sweets. I think this time I will try the sticky bun recipe. I have read a lot about sticky buns in Amish books and think I would like to try them. Well time for school. Take care and God Bless.
Pretty
Today has been a foggy, cool day in Floyd, so I thought we would all enjoy some summer flowers. I love fall but I do dread to see the flowers disappear. My grandmother loved flowers and I like to think my love of flowers comes from her. One of my fondest memories of her involves her holding my hand, taking me through her yard and telling me the names of all her flowers. So not only do they remind me of summer but also of her. Today was one of those homeschooling days when you just know it’s all worth it. School went by steady without interruption. The girls were focused and so was I. A good day. Sometimes as a homeschooling Mom, I wonder “Am I really doing this right?” Thank God for days like today. It’s almost like God wants me to know every now and then that I am doing exactly what He wants me to be doing. Tomorrow I will be seeing an old friend. We don’t get to see each other very often as we now live far apart. I can’t wait to see her and get caught up on things. True friendship is hard to find and I value her greatly as a friend and also as a Christian Sister. I now have dinner to cook. Tonights menu is baked pork tenderloin, potatoes, (fresh dug from the garden) and canned green beans (also from our garden). I also baked fresh gingerbread to go with it. What do you all think? Cornbread or biscuits with this feast? God Bless.
