Monday

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was very nice.  Not much going on.  We didn’t have church yesterday as there was no power at church.  Lots of people here in Floyd have been without power since the storm.   I spoke to a lady at our local supermarket this morning and she is still without power.  I certainly pray everyone gets  power restored before tonight.  We are supposed to get really cold-single digits with wind chills at zero or below.  So many people have electric heat.  It would be hard for them to stay warm without electricity.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day cutting out quilt pieces.  I have been inspired by my blogging friends, Blessings  and Cheryl.    I am doing a simple block quilt.  The block pieces are 5″ X 5″.  Then hopefully I will sew them all together (using the sewing machine).  We’ll see how it goes.  I have made quilts before but always using panels not something I have to cut out and sew together.  I thought this would be the simplest to do.  If I calculated correctly it will take 216 5″ X 5″ blocks to make a twin size quilt.  Okay, so maybe I am already overwhelmed.  I think it will be a fun project though-something different for me.

Well, that’s about it for us.  School is finished for the day, the outside chores are done and the girls are going for a walk on the tractor road.  Two dogs and several cats are walking with them.  The geese are swimming happily on the pond, the sun is shining.  I am SO blessed.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Blue Ridge Folklife Festival

Yesterday we did a field trip to Ferrum College.  We had so much fun and I have so many pictures that it will take me several days to show you all them.  The first thing we came to when we got there was this music museum.  It had the history of the dulcimer.  Very interesting.

Guess what this is?  A sewing machine!  All I can say is, we’ve come a long way, ladies.

Several places were demonstrating how corn was ground into meal.  This one however gave away free samples.

I think I’ll grind ours a little finer in my grinder.  The corn we grind for corn meal is white so this will be a little different.

Who remembers these?  Growing up, I would have loved to have one of these.   Well, that all for today.  I’ll post more pictures tomorrow.  It’s almost time to leave for bible study.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

My Christmas Tablecloth

100_4970

I love to use this quilt every year as my tablecloth at Christmas.  I did not make the quilt and to be honest I have had it so long I don’t really remember who did.  I love it though.  It looks so pretty on our table.  I took the picture of it on the floor because I wanted you all to really see it good.  I think if quilts could talk, this one would say cheerful, happy things.

Monday, I did some grocery shopping for our Christmas meal.  We visited some with the Horns which is alway fun.  Yesterday, I worked some more on my sewing machine.  I am still not successful in getting it to work properly.  I hope to work on it more today.  I have many sewing projects I want to start on.  I might have to get Hubby to look at it and see what he can do.

We are getting a drizzle of rain here this morning.  Temperatures are warm-33 degrees.  Hopefully it will just be rain and no ice.   There is a chance of snow for tomorrow and  predictions for a winter storm coming in on Friday night.  If this happens, our Christmas meal plans will have to change.  Chuck and his family are supposed to come tomorrow and Jess and her family are coming on Sunday.  It is so hard to plan things in the winter.  You never know what the weather will bring.

We are doing “half school” today and tomorrow.  Then on Friday, we will start our Christmas break.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

New Sewing Machine

Saturday was spent at a local craft sale.  I did pretty good selling my dishcloths and aprons.  I have needed a new sewing machine for a long time.  My old one is about 25 years old and has been giving me lots of trouble lately.  Hubby has repaired it many times.  Saturday I was blessed to sell enough to purchase this new one.  I pray I get as much service from it as I did from the old one.  Now I think I need to go sew something.  God Bless.

I thought some of you might be wondering about the name of my blog.  I have a small business that I run  out of my home.  I make aprons, lap quilts, crochet dishcloths, afgans, and prayer shawls.  I have made enough  to buy the school books for this year.   I think that’s pretty good.  I have about 50 dishcloths made up to sell but I only have 3 aprons left.  As soon as Hubby gets to repair sewing machine I have to get busy with more aprons and lap quilts.  I enjoyed my long weekend with Jess and family.  We got a lot done.  George and Dave laid the tile on the bathroom floor and Jess and I painted her craft room.  She chose a bright yellow and she is thinking about going with bright red curtains and accessories.  I think it will be gorgeous.  I love yellow walls.  It makes the entire room so cheerful.  I also got lots of MawMaw hugs and a few kisses.  He’s stingy with his kisses.  Jasper (our puppy) had lots of play time with his brother, Buddy ( Daniel’s puppy).  It’s getting time to cook supper so I guess I’ll have to come up with some ideas.  Tomorrow I think I might try to can our beets.  I’ll post pictures if I do.  God Bless.
