A New Dress for Katie

Remember how I told you all Mrs. Sally (our pastor’s wife) is teaching my girls how to sew.  Well, this is their latest sewing project.  Julie made the dress and Grace made the hat.  I think they did a great job.

It has been a busy but productive and fun week for us.  Monday we went down to Jessica’s.  Tuesday, I helped Hubby and then the Horn’s came over for a visit on Tuesday evening.  We had a great visit.  We had hamburgers on the grill.  The wind was blowing so hard though that we had a little trouble keeping the grill lit.  It was a beautiful evening with temperatures in the mid 70’s. We sit outside on my green swing and enjoyed the breeze. You wouldn’t know that today though.  It has been hot and humid.  Oh well.  Yesterday, the girls and I made sweet pickle relish.  I have never made relish before.  I think it will be very good.  Today, we worked on green beans.  We canned 28 quarts.  It really helps to have two canners going.  Grace has an eye appointment tomorrow in Salem.  Tomorrow evening we are going to the pastor’s house to cook out, then we will be picking beans as they are so generously sharing with us.  I hope to remember my camera so I can show you all some pictures.  His apples trees are loaded with apples this year.

Well, it is time for the last canner to come off.  YEAH!  I think we are all tired.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Water Pictures

Here are a few more pictures from our trip Sunday.  This little waterfall was very pretty.

See all the cracks in the rocks.

And last, just a little stream to listen to.  So relaxing.

The girls and I went to Roanoke yesterday.  They had a dentist appointment.  After the appointment, we did a few things they enjoy doing.  We went to Books-A-Million, which is one of their favorite places to go.  We went to Sam’s Club to pick up a few things we needed.  We then walked around a little bit in the mall.  Joann’s Fabric had fleece on sale so we wanted to go by there.  Grace will be making a top with it for her next sewing project with Mrs. Sally.  We discovered that Joann’s was no longer there.  We were very disappointed.  We wanted to stop at Fresh Market to get some pumpkin spice coffee.  It is a specialty coffee they only have in the fall.  Well, we were pulling into the shopping center and one of the girls said, “Mom, look, there’s Joann’s.”  Yea!  So, Grace got her fleece and Mom got her coffee.  Grace chose a red with white snowflakes on it.  I think it will look very good.

I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

New Machine

Yesterday, I decided I just could not fix my machine.  We decided we should not be having all that trouble with a new machine so we took the machine back to Wal-Mart where we had purchased it.  As you all recall, I had not had the machine very long at all and it has always given me trouble.  Anyway, Wal-Mart took it back and we exchanged it for this machine.  As soon as I started sewing on it, it was obvious this is a better machine.  I have never used a Singer before but I definitely pray we will be getting better service from this one than from the Brother.  I finished the sewing project that I had previously started.

This is for my little man, Daniel, who loves, loves, loves to help his mom in the kitchen.  I hope it looks like a little boy apron.  I wanted something with tractors on it but blue jean material was all I had that looked boyish.  Weather permitted they will be coming up Sunday.  Chuck and his family may come also.  This would be a first-all my grandkids in the house at the same time.  WOW!  They are calling for some snow to hit here tomorrow and Sunday so we’ll just have to wait and see.

We will be having our candlelight service at church tonight.  This is such a beautiful service.  We have these little shelves on the walls and on top of the shelves we have oil lamps.  All the oil lamps are lit and the electric lights are turned off.  It is absolutely beautiful.  We have communion and the pastor has a message.  Then we all light our individual candles, gather around in a circle and sing Christmas hymms.  It is such a special time and we all look forward to it.  I pray you will all have a wonderfully blessed Christmas Eve as well.

Celebrate the birth of our Savior.  May He bless each of you with a special portion of His presence on this wonderful day-Christ’s birthday.   God bless.
