Pink Apples

Saturday while down at Jessica’s we went over to David’s mothers.  There we found an apple tree loaded with apples and ready to be picked.  She said we could have them.  We did get a surprise though.  They are not your normal apple.

We gathered about a 1/2 bushel and brought them home.  We had never seen an apple that looked like this one.  I’m not sure what their name is but they are difinitely different.  What fun we had today working with these.  Grace of course loved them as pink is her favorite color.

After cooking them and running them through the sauce maker, they turn a beautiful, darker color.

We canned 9 pints and put 1 qt bag in the freezer.  I think they look very pretty in the jar.  Tomorrow, if all goes as planned, we will be making spaghetti sauce.  We have  a bushel of tomatoes to work up.  Our pastor’s wife gave us her spaghetti sauce recipe, so I think we will make it tomorrow.  She gave us a can to try and we all thought it was very good.  The recipe I have made before does not get thick enough so I have been on the search for a new one.  I’ll let you all know tomorrow how it turns out.  Take care and God bless.

Wall hanging

We went over to our friends house today to celebrate her  daughter’s birthday.    We had homemade pizza and birthday cake.  It was delicious.  Thanks again Vicki.  Then she gave me a surprise.  She made me this beautiful wall hanging!  I could’nt wait to get home and put it on my wall.  I think it looks just perfect in my dining room.  To me, nothing says you care about people more than hand made items.  I LOVE IT!  Tonight’s menu at church is baked spaghetti, salad, bread, green beans, corn, and cake with ice cream.  Sounds good, huh.   Weather here is rain, rain, and then maybe some more rain.  Oh well, at least its not ice.  We now have mud everywhere.  The snow has melted and the ice has melted and they say there is a chance for flooding.  I’m glad the Good Lord is in charge of all this and not me.  Well, I better get busy getting those green beans ready.  God Bless.

Christfest

Pictures from Christfest Saturday night.  My girls wore puddle skirts,  Daniel is Spider Man, David is Wafer Man and Jess is dressed as a devil.  It was a GREAT surprise when they came to the party.  I had thought they were going to stay at their house to give away candy.  Change of plans, which made MawMaw very happy.  Julie, Grace, and Daniel had a great time playing the games and getting candy.  Everyone probably noticed I spelled the cats name wrong on my last post.  I noticed it too, but did not know how to change it.  Her name is Stripes.  Anyway, I guess I need to use spell check.  We went down to Dave and Jess’ for a few days, worked some more on their bathroom.  The shower stall is now tiled.  We have to put the grout on our next trip.   We worked very  hard today, splitting and stacking wood.  No school today just work.  The girls would rather do school than work this hard, but as I told them we will appreciate it this winter.  I have been blessed with very good girls.  They work hard and complain very little.   They had fun too.  They make work into a game and that makes it fun.  It was a very beautiful day.  Lots of sunshine, temperature around 50 degrees.  Very nice for working outside.   It’s 6:00 and already dark, however, I do like the fact that it gets daylight earlier.  I have always been a morning person.  Well, it time for me to get some stuff done.  God Bless.

Eagle

Coming home from church Sunday, we had this wonderful surprise.  An eagle perched high in the top of this tree.  We have saw a few eagles here on the farm before but never got a picture this good.  It was very exciting.  Today is a very pleasant day here in Floyd.  Sunshine, warm temperatures, and wind.  Of course wind.  School has been going very well today.  Several tests but good grades on all.  I like it when they make good grades, makes me think they must be listening.  Tonight is church night.  We are still doing the Beth Moore study on fruits of the spirit.  It is going very well.  A very interesting study.  For those of you who have done Beth Moore studies you know she does such a great job.  Well lunch break is over. School Time.  God Bless.

Flowers

These are some late blooming flowers in one of my flower beds.  Yes, I actually took these pictures this morning .  Temperatures in the low to mid 30’s.  These flowers are close to the house so they are kinda sheltered.  I certainly am glad they decided to bloom so late, adding their special color to fall.  Almost all my flowers are gone so these are especially appreciated.   I think today I will work on making Grace’s poodle shirt for our Christfest (Halloween alternative) at church.   The girls look forward to it every year.  Lots of games and of course more candy than any 2 girls could eat.   We have a new member at our Friday Ladies Bible study.  So good to have you, Vicki!    We had a surprise yesterday.  We heard a kitten meowing in one of our outbuildings.  When we went to check it out we discovered 3 new kittens,  2 gray, and 1 black with a little white on her face.   I will try to get a picture of them later today and post it so you all can see them.  They are very cute!   Of course, we never seem to have a shortage of cats here on the farm but no matter how many we have it is always exciting to the girls to find new kittens.  Hours of playtime for them.  Well it is time for me to do some work.  God Bless.

Toy Chest

Remember last week I said we were working on a wood project.  Well here it is.  I couldn’t post about it then because we wanted it to be a surprise.  Daniels birthday is coming up so we made him a much needed toy chest.  The train on the front was my first time painting a design on a project.  It was fun, however I was concerned I would mess it up.  It turned out okay though.  Daniel seemed to like it and Mom really liked it.  Now she has a place for some of his toys.  He loves trains and tractors.  I looked for a stencil but couldn’t find one so we just made our own.  George got the picture from the internet.  I cut it out and traced it on the wood, then painted it in.  I told him he should make some more perhaps to sell.   We’ll see.  Gotta go gather beets.  God Bless.
