Wood

An almost empty wood pile.  Remember how this looked last fall.  I would show you the picture but all my old pictures are still sleeping on my computer, which is “resting” for a while.  Anyway, last fall this shed had 7 rows deep of wood and 2 rows on each side.  All gone.  We used almost all of the wood last winter.  Saturday, we all worked on the wood pile.  George and I used the splitter and the girls stacked it up.

This is what the pile looked like.  We have about 1/3 of it split and stacked in the building-three rows deep.  We want to have more wood this winter than we had last winter.  Just in case, it is another hard winter.  It is better to be prepared.   I want to take a moment to complement my girls.  They worked very hard Saturday and did an excellent job stacking the wood.  Thank you, Julie and Grace.

Another picture I know Jess will love.  The girls found this lunar moth on the building the other day.  Very pretty.  They enjoy finding pictures for me to use.  Rather chilly here today.  Upper 40’s for the temperature. Lots of rain.  We had a really hard rain last night while we were at church.  We do our Sunday night study in the basement.  Water started coming in through the basement door.  We had to stop our study and get busy-quick.  The outside drain could not handle all the water.  Thanks to mops, a shop vac, and a sump pump we finally got it all dried out.  I’m just glad it happened while we were there.  It would not have been fun to discover all that water on Wednesday night.  Imagine what damage it could have done.  God is good.  Of course, after all that hard work, the food tasted extra good.  Time for piano lessons.  Take care and God bless.

Sunrise

I just love to see a sunrise or a sunset.  I think it comes from living in the mountains of southwest virginia.  Where I grew up, you never saw either one. Our house was in what we call a “holler” so the view was blocked by the mountains.  The sun would hit our yard about 11:00 and go down about 3:00.  I guess thats one of the reasons I love living here in Floyd.  In the summer, the sun is in our yard about 6:30 and leaves about 8:00.  Lots of sunshine, which I love.  This morning God put on another show for us to enjoy.  Thank you Lord!  School today as usual.  It is hard to concentrate on school now though.  We feel like we’re been let out of prison.  The temperatue is warm, the snow is almost gone, so of course everyone wants to be outside instead of in.  We try to mix a little of both so it doesn’t get to bad.  Jasper (young dog) had his first experience with a skunk last night.  Not very pleasant.  I tried a remedy one of the ladies from church told me about.  I sprayed him with Febreeze.  It actually helped quite a lot.  He still smells but not as bad. I don’t have to cook tonight, we are eating  at church.  Roast beef and potatoes with all the trimmings.  It has been a long time since we went to church on Wednesday night.  When the weather is bad, they call it off.   I am definitely looking forward to going tonight.  The girls are involved in TeamKids there at church.  They alternate Wednesdays doing childrens choir and handbells.  They really enjoy the handbells.  The adults are doing a Beth Moore study on the fruit of the spirit.  It has been a really good study so far, however we are pretty far behind because of the bad weather we’ve had this winter.   They have decided not to watch the video that goes with it, in order to hopefully get it finished in May.  Guess I better get ready to go.  Take care and God bless.

MaMaw Time

A picture of me and Daniel.  We had a lot of fun playing together this weekend.  It is very seldom I get a picture of us together.  I miss you already, Daniel.   He is a very active little boy so he definitely keeps Mommy busy.  We are starting to thaw out a little here.   The snow melted quite a lot yesterday.   We probably still have about 10 inches to melt yet, but we are on the way.  A small storm is coming through today with very little accumulation.  Hopefully there will be church tonight.  We haven’t met on a Wednesday night in about a month.  I think our Friday Ladies Study will meet this week too.  Our driveway and the hill at the barn are passable.  We are starting a Beth Moore study on Esther.  It is my week to do dessert.  I am making something one of the ladies from our Sunday night study gave me the recipe for.  Thanks Faye.  It is extremely easy.  You use ice cream sandwiches, line them up in the bottom of a 9X13 cake pan, cover them with cool whip, drizzle chocolate syrup on that and freeze.  Wow! how easy is that and it is sooooo delicious.  I can hardly wait for the ladies to try it.  I really enjoy trying new recipes.  Well, time for school to start.  I better get busy.  God bless.

Christmas Cactus

What do you all think about my Christmas cactus?  Ain’t it pretty?  It was given to me several years ago by a dear friend.  I’m not very good with indoor flowers but this one has been beautiful every year.  I quess I just have it in a good location.  Thanks, Barbara!  I really enjoy it’s color so I thought I would share it with everyone.  Today is a very dreary day in Floyd.  Rainy, foggy, windy, chilly.  Yuk. No outside activities today, except carry in some wood for the fire.  Oh well, it could be much worse.  School has went very well today.  We are learning about writing reports in language.  Not very exciting but necessary information.   Tonight is church night and the girls always look forward to Team Kids.  They have lots of fun and learn about scripture too, so it makes them and us happy.  If anyone wants to learn more about Team Kids, it is a program through Lifeway.  You can go to their web page and find out all about it.  We are still doing the Beth Moore study on the Fruit of the Spirit on Wednesday night.  Pretty good study.  Well lunch break is over and I better get busy.  God Bless.

Busy Days

I’m sorry I don’t have a picture to post today.  Things have been very busy around here this week.  We got to have some MawMaw and PawPaw time Tuesday and Wednesday.  Those of you who are grandparents know that takes top priority over everything else.  Daniel’s highlight of his stay was riding around the farm in PawPaw’s truck.   Wednesday night was really nice.   David, Jess, and Daniel went to the fellowship meal with us at church.  Everyone (of course) was tremendously impressed with Daniel.  Thursday morning brought water heater problems.  We replaced both elements and thought our problem was fixed.  We should have known better.  Never does plumbing go that smooth.  We left to have dinner with some friends of ours.  We were blessed to pick some apples at their farm.  We came home and discovered a hugh water leak under the sink.  I mean really under the sink, between the dirt and the floor.  The back part of our house sits directly on the ground so this presented a rather large problem.  MY WONDERFUL HUBBY ( with my help) managed to get this fixed today.  Also I have decided to attempt to sell my crafts at another festival.  This one will be Oct. 3.  This means I have 1 week to get more stuff made.  Today after helping with the plumbing and putting poly on a cabinet we are making for ourselves, I finally got to do some sewing.  I made a set of cloth napkins, 1 apron, and set up 1 lap quilt.  Hopefully I will finish the quilt tomorrow.  It is a Christmas quilt.  I will try to post a picture of it when finished.  Well it is late. I am tired.  God Bless.
