Garden Update

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are all having a good day. I wanted to show a few garden pictures (ok, so maybe more than a few😂). We got some rain last week so everything is really growing good. It always amazes me, I can water for a week and things just barely stay alive. The good Lord can send rain and everything just pops! The above picture is the broccoli and cabbage.

Yellow squash, zucchini and cucumbers with some cosmos flowers on both ends of the row.

Corn. The plastic bags tied to the cattle panel is to hopefully keep the birds from eating the seeds!

Peppers. We have had some chilly nights so the peppers are a little slow taking off.

More squash. These are white patty pan squash.

Sugar snap peas. These are loaded with peas and bloom. We have already been eating from these.

Carrots

Rampicante squash at the cattle panel and georgia candy roaster squash in the middle of the bed.

I have okra and beans planted in the garden too but they are not up yet.

Tomatoes. I trimmed these yesterday and many of them needed to be tied up to the trellis.

Potatoes

Early green beans planted in this little raised bed. My mom always wanted to have fresh green beans from the garden by the 4th of July. So I always plant a little patch in remembrance of her.

Blueberry bushes are loaded!

Our beautiful rose bush. Trust me when I say the picture does not do it justice. It is beautiful!

God bless!

Seed Storage

Good morning everyone! I hope you are all having a good day.

In my previous post, I showed you all the new seed storage container I got at Michael’s. Yesterday during the rain, I worked on putting my seeds in the new container. In the above picture, you can see what it looked like before. I think it is obvious why I wanted something new.

The system itself wasn’t bad. I had everything in folders in alphabetical order. It just needed to be gone through. I put the older seeds in ziploc bags and stored them in a closet. Newer seeds are in the new container.

I moved all the supplies underneath in the milk crate.

I think it looks so much better. Definitely an improvement! It always amazes me how little improvements like this can make such a difference.

God bless!

Rain

Good morning everyone! I hope you are all having a good day!

We are getting a really good rain here. I am sitting on my glassed in front porch enjoying the sound of rain on my tin roof. I have a fresh cup of coffee, candles lit and my handsome man, Juicy (my cat) curled up beside me.

Thank you, Lord!

We have been having some difficulties getting the rain water to go into our big rain barrel up at the garden but, judging by the above picture, I think it is doing ok now. I hope so.

Grace and I went to Christiansburg yesterday to get the gutter attachment for the rain barrel. We stopped at Michael’s. We found this picture case on sale for $17. I was so happy. They are normally $41. I see so many people on YouTube use these to store their seeds in. If the rain continues, I will probably work on putting some seeds in this today.

Michael’s didn’t have a lot of yarn but we found this one on clearance for $3. I love the colors. I like to build up my yarn staff during the summer so I have plenty to work with in the winter.

I forgot to show you all my new little sitting area in the garden. I love it!! I am thinking about an umbrella for it but I don’t know yet.

I guess that’s all for now. I hope everyone has a good day. God bless!

Chores and Zoo Trip

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a great week! I thought I would share a few things that have been going on here. I spent the morning doing chores that I have been putting off. 😁 First, I cleaned out the rabbit hutches and then the chicken house.

Very happy hens! We also put fresh hay in the duck house but I forgot to get a picture of it. Next year’s compost pile started.

Lunch for today. Yum!

On Wednesday, we made a trip to Mill Mountain Zoo. It is a small zoo but lots of fun.

Her arms are almost as big as an eagles! We have measured arm span by this eagle for years.

We missed Dave on this trip but he was gone to a conference.

I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend. God bless!

Garden Update

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. Things are good here. Busy but good. I wanted to do a garden update so this post contains quite a few pictures! First, just look at these raspberries! The vines are loaded so hopefully this year will be a good raspberry harvest.

The blueberries are looking good too!

Look at all these cute little baby grapes! These grapes are seedless Concord grapes and they are so sweet!

A few of the tomato plants are starting to bloom!

All these boxes contain different varieties of cherry tomatoes. In front of the tomatoes, I planted a small row of green beans in each box.

These are all the other tomatoes. There are 31 plants in this row. Lots of varieties. Some of them are new to us, some are not.

We are starting to get a few peas!

Carrots are looking good!

Zinnias

Rampicante squash

Georgia Candy Roaster squash. This is a new to me variety. It is a type of winter squash.

A volunteer potato plant

Peppers, about 20 plants. Different varieties. Many of these are new varieties for us to try.

Squash, zucchini and cucumbers in this row.

Broccoli and cabbage

I planted this row of green beans this morning. I couldn’t get the contender green bean seeds this year that I usually plant. These are a new variety called provider. Hopefully they will do good for us.

View from the top of the garden at the grapevine.

I guess that’s enough garden pictures for now. Hopefully more to follow as everything grows.

God bless!

What’s Been Going On

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great day! I just wanted to share a few pictures of what has been going on here.

We celebrated John Luke’s birthday yesterday. He asked to go to Chuck E Cheese’s for his party. It was a lot of fun! As you can tell by the picture, he had a blast!

Sam is taking allergy shots twice a week now. He is doing very good so far with them. He is very happy here because Grace sent him a game to play on the DS.

Dave and the kiddos came over last weekend to help Grace and I get the garden ready. They really did a great job!

Dave is showing Katie how to use the t post driver

We got all the landscape fabric down in both gardens.

We ran out of the staples to hold it down so we just laid wood and such on it to keep the wind from blowing it away. I have since gotten the staples but I haven’t got them put down yet.

I am so happy with how this planter turned out. I made this all by myself! I used an older planter that I had bought as my pattern. And I used wood I already had so it was basically no cost. I love that! I plan on putting herbs in the pots and leaving the planter on the deck so they will be easily accessible.

All the next pictures are of my seedlings. Peppers and tomatoes. They are all potted up now and so far they are looking really good!

I hope you all have a great Easter! God bless!

Happy Friday!

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all had a good week! Things are good here. The weather has been nice this week but it has cooled down today. We are expecting a few inches of snow Sunday, which, in my opinion, would be awesome. We have had no snow this winter. Just a few flurries. Above is a little doily I made this week. I used spring pastel colors. I really like it! I followed this video to make it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J5xqHyxJw8I

I went to our local greenhouse the other day to pick up some potting soil. I also got these beautiful basil plants and a few dill plants. I got these stackable pots at dollar tree a few years back. They are not my favorite pots but they might work good for these herbs.

I also got this super cute garden flag at the greenhouse. The flowers on the lady bug’s wings are embroidered. I plan on waiting until May to put this up in the garden. Hopefully it won’t be as windy then.

I successfully overwintered this parsley and rosemary. I kept them on my glassed in front porch. This makes me very happy as I have not had them survive a winter here before. I plan on planting all the herbs in pots this year and I am going to try remember to bring them all in next fall 😉

I wanted to share Grace’s latest drawing. I think they are SO adorable!

That’s all for now. God bless!

Soup and Mulch

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a great weekend! Things have been good here.

Yesterday I decided to can up some vegetable beef soup. This is one of our favorite soups. I really enjoy having it canned. If you haven’t tried canning soups and such, I highly recommend it. So convenient to just open a jar. I can chili beans, taco soup, beef stew…all kinds of easy meals like that.

Beautiful weather here today so I decided to work a little on the mulch pile.

It is slowly getting moved to the garden.

We are going over to Jess’s in a little bit to do the Universal Yums box that they get. It is so much fun trying different snacks from around the world.

I hope you have a great day! God bless!
