Snow

We got lots of snow here this weekend which made my Grace very happy. She loves snow.

We got about 15 inches or so.

A very pretty snow. Temperatures stayed warm so it was fun to be outside.

The downside to all that beautiful snow is that our power was off for about 24 hours. Thank God, though, this doesn’t affect our heat or our ability to cook.

Now for some beautiful sunrise pictures.

Walking day by day in His mercy. God bless.

Starting Some Seeds

Grace and I got out the little greenhouse and started a few seeds.

Mostly flowers. We think we will just get plants for most of our vegetables this year from our local greenhouse. I did start some herbs though and a few peppers.

We meet our friends, the Horns, at our local greenhouse Saturday. We got these beautiful pansies. They are still on my front porch as we are getting snow today and more predicted for the weekend. They definitely brighten up the porch. After the greenhouse, we went thrift store shopping and then Quentin treated us to Mexican for lunch.

Grace got a new betta fish on Sunday after church. His name is HotDog. He seems to love his new home.

God bless.

Rainbow

There was a beautiful full rainbow at our house yesterday. Reminder of God’s love.

Turn around from the rainbow and this is what we saw. Beautiful. Thank you, Grace, for the pictures.

Signs of Spring

We have been blessed with some beautiful days here in Floyd this week. Today’s temperature was 70 degrees with sunshine. I love it. We spotted this coltsfoot blooming on the backside of the gap. It is always the first wildflower we see blooming.

Our rhubarb is coming up. Makes my mouth water just looking at it.

Buds on the lilac bush!

And clothes on the line.

All these warm spring days make me want to get some projects done.

The gate going into the chicken lot was in bad shape. We cut a few new pieces and fixed it up pretty good.

At least, it opens and closes better now.

And, of course, I had to dig in the dirt.

In this bed, I planted a few green onions, lettuce, spinach and kale. It may be a little early but I just had to take a chance.

Our project for today involved trimming back the grapevine.

We raised the vines up higher and put one of our benches under it. I anticipate it to be a shady place to sit and rest this summer after working in garden.

One more picture of the pond. Mama goose is already on her nest and papa goose is standing guard. Oh, I almost forgot, last night we heard the spring FROGS. That makes me so happy. I love to hear them.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Hello

Look at this beautiful bird. Grace took the picture yesterday while he was at our feeder. We think he is a male house finch. He is so pretty.

She also took this picture of these ducks at the pond. We looked them up and think they are mergansers. I probably spelled that wrong?

Things here have been kinda busy. We were having trouble with our electric wood splitter so we have been splitting it by hand. Not fun! However, we think it is now in operation. Dave sharpened the wedge for us and bled the lines. The problem though wasn’t just the splitter. Come to find it out, something is wrong with the electricity going out to the shop. This is way out of my league. So until it can get fixed, we are running a cord from the porch to the wood shed and running the splitter off it.

In other news, our water pump went out and we were without water for 2 days. We got that fixed and now the commode won’t fill up! Oh well, that’s life.

On to happier things. I got some more seed the other day. I love seed shopping. It makes me very happy.

I took the older kids to Parkour class last week as John Luke had his speech therapy that day. The kids have a blast at this class.

We also took this handsome guy for his hearing test. He did great on it.

I took this picture of Grace as she was cleaning out her duck house. As you can see though she has helpers which makes the work go better.

That’s about it for this time. I hope everyone has a good day and God bless.

Beautiful Morning

We were blessed with a beautiful sky this morning. It is cold here with a wind chill of 10 degrees. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Nothing unusual for us though. Snow was on the ground this morning but the sun is out. Sunshine makes everything better in my opinion.

Not much going on here. I have been staying busy just not much to blog about. I have been going through my seeds. Organizing them and getting rid of some of the older ones. I have made a list of what I need. That way if I’m out and get a package of seeds I can mark it off the list.

I’ve been meaning to share this picture of Jessica’s kids. I love it. They are ready for anything! Just look at Katie’s face.

Also a picture of this little man, who has been very sick for the last week or so. He is finally feeling better but gave us all a scare.

Well that’s about it. As I said not much going on. Enjoy your day and God bless.

Granola Bars

These are our favorite granola bars.  /https://www.blessthismessplease.com/granola-bar-recipe/.  I am making another batch of them this morning.  I just make the basic one.  They are really good and easy to make. I am also making some vanilla yogurt.

We got some snow yesterday.   Very pretty but cold.  Our high yesterday only got to 15 degrees and the wind chill stayed below zero.  Oh well, next week is supposed to be warmer.

The icicles are starting to drip.

Grace feeding the birds.  We get so much enjoyment from watching them come and eat.

Not a lot going on here.  Staying warm mostly.  I’ve did some baking.  I found some cherries in the freezer so I made a cherry cobbler.

I guess that’s about all for now.  As I said not a lot going on.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Hello

Good morning everyone!  I hope you are all having a good week so far.  I took this picture from the top of our driveway.  We are so blessed to live where we do.  Also very blessed with warmer temperatures this week.

The other two weeks in January have been really cold.

Lows around zero with wind chills in the negative teens.  Sometimes staying that temperaure all day.

The girls and I made a trip to Wal-Mart in Radford over the weekend.  I just could not go past Rural King without going in.  I thought they might have a few spring things out already.  OH MY GOODNESS!  They had all their seeds out.  This is just one section of them.  It was like walking inside a seed catalog.  We loved it.  I think I will probably just get my seeds from there this year instead of ordering.  They definitely have a huge selection to choose from.

We couldn’t believe they had these seeds.  We planted these last year in the garden.  They are really pretty.   I thought I would probably have to order them for this year.  Last fall just seemed to be so busy I didn’t get to save any seeds from them but we found them there.  Amazing!

I guess that’s all for now.  I hope you have a good week and God bless.

Happy New Year

Hello everyone.  Today is the first day of 2018.  Amazing.  It has been really cold here for the last couple of days.  Lows in the single digits with wind chills below zero.  Now I definitely am not a fan of cold weather but it does have it’s good points.  One of which is getting to cook on the wood stove.

Grace took these pictures of some visitors here on the farm.

We have all been sick here but I think we are finally on the mend.  It has been rough.

I love looking at seed books.  I am glad I had just got these.  It has really helped pass the time.

I made this cake to take to our Christmas dinner at Jessica’s.   I got the recipe from the Elliot homestead.  It was my first time using a springform pan.  I really liked using the pan and the cake was delicious.

Grace just took this picture of the moon. Beautiful, isn’t it!

I hope you have a good week and God bless.
