Today has been a very pretty day here in Floyd. Beautiful sunshine and as you can see the sky is just amazing. Such a bright, vibrant blue. It is warmer than it has been. 25 degrees with very little wind. All in all, this makes for a fairly nice day.
I wanted to put a picture of my latest apron on, but for some reason I am having difficulties with my pictures. I think I will need some help, Dave.
Tonights menu will be pinto beans(cooked on the wood stove) Kielbasa with cabbage, cornbread and the buttermilk chocolate cake for dessert. Pintos cooked on the wood stove are just sooooo good. I guess they prefer slow cooking.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
A Finished Project
I finally have Grace’s quilt finished. I started it last year after I finished Julie’s. Gardening came upon us and I had to put the quilt away until winter. I now have made all 3 girls a wall hanging/quilt that I sewed by hand. I am not very skilled at sewing things by hand so these will probably be the only ones I do.
Temperatures are still cold here. Actual temperature this morning was 10 degrees with a -10 wind chill. When the cold wind blows here it is very difficult to keep the house warm. The wind seems to find its way inside in places we never thought possible. Anyway, our wood stove is working overtime. I am very grateful to have this stove. It certainly puts out a lot of heat.
I am working on a new apron and hopefully will be able to show you all a picture of it soon. School as usual today. The ladies are coming tomorrow for bible study and it is my turn to make dessert. I am thinking of making a buttermilk chocolate cake. I got the recipe from a blogger friend and it has become a favorite of ours. I like buttercream frosting with ours. It reminds me of a cake that was served at school when I was a kid. They called it wacky cake. I do not like chocolate very much but this cake is really good.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
New Machine
Yesterday, I decided I just could not fix my machine. We decided we should not be having all that trouble with a new machine so we took the machine back to Wal-Mart where we had purchased it. As you all recall, I had not had the machine very long at all and it has always given me trouble. Anyway, Wal-Mart took it back and we exchanged it for this machine. As soon as I started sewing on it, it was obvious this is a better machine. I have never used a Singer before but I definitely pray we will be getting better service from this one than from the Brother. I finished the sewing project that I had previously started.
This is for my little man, Daniel, who loves, loves, loves to help his mom in the kitchen. I hope it looks like a little boy apron. I wanted something with tractors on it but blue jean material was all I had that looked boyish. Weather permitted they will be coming up Sunday. Chuck and his family may come also. This would be a first-all my grandkids in the house at the same time. WOW! They are calling for some snow to hit here tomorrow and Sunday so we’ll just have to wait and see.
We will be having our candlelight service at church tonight. This is such a beautiful service. We have these little shelves on the walls and on top of the shelves we have oil lamps. All the oil lamps are lit and the electric lights are turned off. It is absolutely beautiful. We have communion and the pastor has a message. Then we all light our individual candles, gather around in a circle and sing Christmas hymms. It is such a special time and we all look forward to it. I pray you will all have a wonderfully blessed Christmas Eve as well.
Celebrate the birth of our Savior. May He bless each of you with a special portion of His presence on this wonderful day-Christ’s birthday. God bless.
Pioneer Lady
This is my friend Barbara. No, she is not a real pioneer lady. She is one of our Friday Ladies Study group. She needed an outfit for a Red Hat function and this is what we come up with. She looks so good! I made the skirt and the apron for her. She got the bonnet at Schoolhouse Fabrics here in Floyd. I had so much fun making the apron. I have never attempted an apron this this before. It was challenging for me but I so enjoyed doing it. I think I will make one for myself, maybe even the girls. We think this would be an excellent costume for Christfest (halloween alternative) at church. The sun is trying to shine here but the clouds seem to be winning the contest right now. Hopefully it will be warmer today. School as usual. We are almost finished with spelling, only two more word lists. This is when it starts getting exciting again. When you can see the end in sight. I have to make pickled eggs today. My hubby loves pickled eggs. I make some every year at Easter and Christmas and sometimes in between. I will try to document the process and post on it tomorrow. Enjoy your day and God bless.
Snow
Well, we did get the snow. It started last night around 8:30 and is still snowing. It does, however, make everything look beautiful. I had a hard time deciding which pictures to use, but finally decided on these two. The first one is from my dining room window. In the second one, I thought I would show you the pond is just as pretty in snow as in sun. It really has been a great day. The snow has fallen steady all day. We made homemade rolls, a homemade cake, and had 15 bean soup for lunch. I think I’ll go start on an apron later or maybe just read a book. Life is Good! I pray your day is as enjoyable as mine has been. God Bless.
Apron
My first out of state order. Okay, so it goes to my cousin in Kansas but it counts anyway. Well, the big news here is Jess went yesterday for her ultra sound and IT’S A BOY!!!! My heart is happy. It amazes me to think of how good the God I serve is. To come from being a woman who thought she would have no babies to being blessed with children is just an example of how God loves to surprise His children. God is good!! Temperatures here are still cold. The high today is 24 degrees, wind chill of about 15. This is the warmest temperatures we have had in about one week. We have managed to keep the water running in the kitchen, but the bathroom has been frozen for several days. Oh well, at least we still have water. We went down to Jessica’s yesterday to watch Daniel while she went for her ultra sound. It was 32 degrees when we left her house, got back home to 16 degrees with a wind chill of about zero or below. Have I mentioned I do not like cold weather? This will make me appreciate spring more when it comes, right. I am making homemade rolls today and it is time to put them in the oven. Better go. God Bless.
Thread Holder
This is a picture of the thread holder hubby made for me. I used to keep them in the basket and everytime I needed thread they were all jumbled up together. One day I told him I needed something to keep all my thread on. Something that would keep them organized. Today he finished it. I really like it. The other picture shows my sewing area with my new machine. Just looking at the pictures makes me want to go make an apron. I am very blessed to have a talented husband who enjoys making things. Well, I have tests to make and work to do. God Bless.
New Material
Here’s some new material I bought today. I am going to make Christmas aprons with it. 3 of them will have red binding and a red pocket. The other one will have a pocket made from the same material as the apron and white binding. I think they will look very cheerful and festive. Today was spend shopping, piano lessons, and getting groceries. Hopefully I can get some sewing done before bedtime. I finished a scarf today crocheted in Floyd School colors, black and gold. It looks really good and it’s already sold. I really like that. Temperatures are cool here today. Mid 60’s with strong wind. We read the other day in Psalms that wind comes from God’s personal storehouse. So now when I feel the wind (we get a lot of wind here) I just remember where it comes from. Personal touch from God. How good is that. God Bless.
Quilt and Apron
Today has been a busy day. Rain and temperatures have fallen all day. A good day for sewing. I finished the Christmas lap quilt and had enough material left to make an apron. I think they both look pretty good. I hope to sell the quilt for $25.0o and aprons are $12.00. I wish I had more seasonal material, fall & Christmas especially. I also set up another quilt this evening but I think I’m done for today. Tomorrow is church day and I need to do my Sunday School and Sunday Evening lessons. I think for tomorrow night at church I will take potato soup. These colder temperatures make me think of soup. Have a good evening and God Bless.
Busy Days
I’m sorry I don’t have a picture to post today. Things have been very busy around here this week. We got to have some MawMaw and PawPaw time Tuesday and Wednesday. Those of you who are grandparents know that takes top priority over everything else. Daniel’s highlight of his stay was riding around the farm in PawPaw’s truck. Wednesday night was really nice. David, Jess, and Daniel went to the fellowship meal with us at church. Everyone (of course) was tremendously impressed with Daniel. Thursday morning brought water heater problems. We replaced both elements and thought our problem was fixed. We should have known better. Never does plumbing go that smooth. We left to have dinner with some friends of ours. We were blessed to pick some apples at their farm. We came home and discovered a hugh water leak under the sink. I mean really under the sink, between the dirt and the floor. The back part of our house sits directly on the ground so this presented a rather large problem. MY WONDERFUL HUBBY ( with my help) managed to get this fixed today. Also I have decided to attempt to sell my crafts at another festival. This one will be Oct. 3. This means I have 1 week to get more stuff made. Today after helping with the plumbing and putting poly on a cabinet we are making for ourselves, I finally got to do some sewing. I made a set of cloth napkins, 1 apron, and set up 1 lap quilt. Hopefully I will finish the quilt tomorrow. It is a Christmas quilt. I will try to post a picture of it when finished. Well it is late. I am tired. God Bless.
