Garden

Here are just a few shots of our garden.  We hope to soon enjoy squash as you can see the bloom on it.  This one tomato plant will be an early one.  The others are not near as big.  Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Floyd.  Hubby and I finished getting the garden out.  We planted a few more tomatoes and beans and corn.

Later in the evening we got a good rain.  I guess God knew our seeds needed a drink.  The girls and I are working on cleaning the house today and washing clothes.  My house is a little behind as we have been doing up the beef.  Our total is 80 quarts of canned beef and 88 bags of hamburger.  Pretty good I think.  Tomorrow is bible study day.  We are studying I Corinthians. Little Samuel will be here in 4 more days.  Unless he decides to come before then.  We all can hardly wait to see him and hold him.  God is good!  Also hopefully David will have my computer back in operation soon.  I really miss it.  It’s sometimes hard for me and Hubby to coordinate on one computer.  His free time is usually my free time too.  Well, my time is up.  The wringer is calling my name.  Take care and God bless.

Our “New” Car

100_3437

We have a new car.  Well, new to us.  It is a 1991 Ford Taurus and seems to be in excellent condition.  It gets really good gas mileage.  We took it down to Jessica’s yesterday and got about 27 mpg.  This sounds great to us as “ol Red” only gets about 8 mpg.  Please don’t get me wrong, we are very thankful for ol Red.  It is just not exactly a family vehicle.   The girls and I used ol Red as our vehicle to ride into town for piano and other things.   We have had to use the van (Hubby’s work vehicle) for work and leisure.  Not a lot of fun.  We had to unload all the tools when we were going somewhere, then reload them back when we got home.  Times have been hard.  These are choices you make in order to make ends meet.  But now by the grace of God we have another car.  Paid for-no payments.  Thank you, Lord.  Tonight’s menu at church is Ham loaf, deviled eggs, corn, green beans, cole slaw and corn bread.  I am bringing the green beans (home canned) and the corn bread.  I use my grinder and grind corn to make the corn meal.  It is baking in the oven now and smells soooooo good.  I also cut up some fresh strawberries from yesterday.  We are having pound cake with strawberries and ice cream for dessert.  It all sound delicious!  It has been very windy here today.  I wanted to work on my bible study outside but it was just too windy.  The girls say God is blow drying the earth when the wind blows like this.  I guess that’s as good a description as any.  Smells like my cornbread is done.  I better get it out of the oven.  Take care and God bless.

Honey Bee

We have actually been seeing a few of these guys around this spring.  Very good news.  Grace took this picture.  Thanks Grace.  Things have been a little busy here.  Saturday was spring cleaning day at church.  We had lots of fun.  About 16-18 people showed up to clean.  We started at 9:00 in the morning and finished about 2:30 that afternoon.  We grilled hot dogs for lunch with all the fixings.  You know we got to eat.  Then when we came home, I had the most precious message on our answering machine.  My little man singing happy birthday to MawMaw.  He did such a great job!   Hubby mowed the yard and tillered the first garden.  I plan to start planting this week.   Julie has an earache today.  She feels a little better this evening than she did this morning.  Hopefully it will not last too long.  This weekend has been a little cool here.  Upper 50’s for the temperature.  Very windy.  I guess it wouldn’t be Floyd without the wind.  There will be no bible study tonight as some were wanting to go to another church for their revival.  We won’t be going.  I think Julie needs to stay in and rest.    Speaking of rest, I think I’ll go do just that.  Take care and God bless.

Another Sign of Spring

100_3021

Another indicator of spring.  This flower is one of the early ones.  I’m not sure what it is but it comes up early every year.  Does anyone know it’s name?  Anyway it is always such an uplifting sight to see it coming out of the ground.  Today has been a little cool here, overcast, kinda dreary.  Yesterday was georgeous.  Windy but lots of sunshine.  Today has been school as usual.  We are all looking forward to finishing the year (hopefully) a little early.  Our expectations are to be finished around the first of May.  I guess that is if we don’t miss too many days between now and then.  Spring is the hardest for us.  We want to take too many days off and enjoy the sun.  I’ve still been working on Grace’s quilt.  I’m about 2/3 of the way finished.  I really want to get it done soon so I can put the quilting frame away for summer.  It always seems to me, spring is the time for new projects and it is hard to get old ones finished when so many new ones are calling.  I MUST REMAIN FOCUSED!  Tonight’s menu for supper is venison strips, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and homemade biscuits.  Dessert will probably be honey and butter swirled together and put on hot biscuits.  YUM!  Tomorrow is  Ladies Bible Study day.  It is going really well.  A very good study.  I highly recommend it.  Well it is time for us to get some house cleaning done and then start on supper.  Take care and God Bless.

Bigger Now

100_2954100_2036

My, what a difference a few months can make.  Jasper was about 8 weeks old in this picture.  The other one was taken this morning.  I think he’s grown some, don’t you all?  He is drying off from a bath, waiting on the girls to break for lunch so he can play with them.  I am not sure how this happened.  I’ve never cared for animals in the house.  We now have 2 full time cats inside and 1 part time dog.  100_2952

I used to be so strong.  Oh well, it’s not too bad.  The girls really enjoy them being in.  Cold here today.  The wind is blowing pretty hard.  The fire went out last night and when I tried to build a new fire this morning, the smoke was terrible.  I eventually just took the wood out of the stove and left it alone.  I would rather be a little cool than have to deal with all that smoke.  We have the gas logs on so its not too cold.  Hopefully, we will do bible study tomorrow.  I am very excited to begin this study.  Esther is such an exciting book to study and I’m sure Beth Moore will bring out things I would never think about.  We are hopefully going down to Jessica’s this weekend.  I want to do some girl stuff.  The town she lives in has an excellent Goodwill Store.  I love shopping at Goodwill!  I guess I just love thrift store shopping in general, yard sales, consignment sales, etc.  Good deals at good prices.  Well, lunch break is over.  Time for school.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Comparison

About 3 weeks ago, I posted the first  picture showing the amount of snow we had gotten.  The second picture was taken this morning.   Not a lot of change, but I know spring is coming.  Our birds are starting to make the nesting calls.  Surely they know things we don’t.  Hopefully we will get to do bible study tomorrow.  Hubby did get the van out this morning.  It took him 5 trys but he did it.  The truck wheel is still locked up so it is not going anywhere.  I will wait until this evening when he returns to find out how bad our road is, hopefully not too bad, so the ladies will be able to come.  We are supposed to start Esther by Beth Moore.  I am very excited about this study.  I love Beth Moore studies.  School today as usual.   The girls and I are watching the entire series of Anne of Green Gables videos.  There have been really good so far.  Well, I guess it is time for school.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

More Snow Pictures

100_2854

I wanted to get some pictures showing how deep the drifts had gotten.  Unfortunately by the time we went back down to the barn it was almost too dark to get really good pictures.  This picture shows going down to the milk barn.

This is the side of the road at the milk barn.

This picture is coming up from the milk barn.

These pictures do not show it as well as I wanted them to.  There was not enough light.  Anyway you can get an idea of how it looks.  The road crews have not even thought about our road yet.  Fortunately for us, Marvin clears this part of the road with his tractor so he can get up to his cows.  If not, there would be no path cleared.  The wind, praise God, has slowed down.  Temperatures were in the lower 20’s.  The weather man says to expect below normal temperatures for the next 10 day, so I guess none of this will be melting any time soon.  Chance of more snow coming in on Monday.  At least we can get the truck down to the barn now.  No bible study tomorrow.  No one could get here.  I guess I better get busy, getting things done.  God Bless.

Snow Covered Pond

100_2756

It is hard to tell where the pond begins and where it ends in this picture.  The snow  covered the ice and it all seemed to blend together..  We did our bible study today.  Yes I know it’s not Friday, however, another storm is scheduled to come in tonight.  Posssibly up to 12 more inches by Saturday night.  I can hardly wait!   We thought if we were going to meet this week we better do it today.  We finished  our study on Peter so next Friday we will begin Beth Moore’s study on Esther. I believe it will be an excellent study.   I always enjoy her studies.  They can get kinda hard sometimes but most things worthwhile  require work.  Well, better get busy.  God Bless.

Ice

100_2711

100_2722

Well the forecast for freezing rain was correct.  Not as much as they first thought but enough.  The first picture is from my dining room window.  It shows the accumulation on the trees.  The second picture is from our kitchen door.  Yes, I know it looks like water running down the yard but it is actually ice.  I’m not very good at guessing ice accumulation but I would think at least a 1/4 of an inch.  Oh well, temperatures are supposed to get above freezing tomorrow so maybe this storm will be short-lived.  More rain coming in on Sunday, though.  School has went very well this week.  We have stayed on schedule and this always makes school more fun.  No bible study today because of the ice.  I certainly do miss those ladies.  It’s been several weeks since we met.  This does happen frequently though in January.   I guess I better get busy.  No bible study means school day.  God Bless.

Summer Anyone?

100_1970

Ok, so I’m really getting tired of cold weather and I thought I would have a little summer .  Garden growing, clothes drying on the line.  Mr. Scarecrow on duty.  That’s right.  Stop.  Take a deep breath. Imagine summer in full swing.  Not wind chills below zero, frozen water lines etc. Today has been a nice day, church was good.  The bad news was yesterday.  I went up to my cellar to get some canned goods and discovered my canned green beans had frozen.  I counted 40 quarts frozen and decided I didn’t want to count anymore.  I just shut the door and walked away.  I have never had cans to freeze before so I’m not exactly sure what to do.  I researched this and from what I have discovered,  as long as they stay sealed they should be okay.  I pray this is so.  So much work to lose them all.  Anyway,  it’s all part of life.  I’ve been busy making aprons and discloths to sell.  I have 3 aprons finished and working on the 4th one.  I have about 4 dishcloths made.  I am also working on another wall hanging.  This one will be for Julie.  Oh yea, I also have an afghan in the works.  This is all done in my spare time.  (What spare time?)  Well, it’s time for bible study.  Tonight’s menu includes brunswick stew, green beans(guess who’s bringing them) cornbread, mac & cheese and 2 different desserts, unknown at this time.  God Bless.
