Hello everyone!  Well, as we knew would happen, our wonderful, cooler weather is gone.  Today, as I type this, we are at 94 degrees.  HOT!  Oh well, this makes us appreciate cooler weather more.  Days like today I really wish we had air conditioning!

My car has been giving me trouble lately.  Hubby is not exactly sure what is going on with it.  Chuck is coming Sunday to help Hubby (hopefully) fix it.  They are trying several things to see if that works but Hubby says it could be the fuel pump.  We hope not but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Our VBS is over.  This is kinda good and kinda sad.  It is a lot of fun but also a lot of work.  We leave home around 6:00 P.M. and don’t get back until around 10:00.  It takes us 30 min to drive to church and 30 min. back home so a lot of our time is spent on the road.

Well, I think my crew is getting hungry so I guess I best get started cooking.  Supper tonight is fried chicken, corn, gravy, homemade biscuits and some homemade blackberry jam to go with the biscuits.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Flavored Coffees

You all know what a big fan I am of flavored coffee creamers.  Well, I also love flavored coffees.  They are expensive though.  My lovely daughter (Jess) bought me a subscription to Kraft Foods Food & Family magazine.  I love it!   Here are two flavored coffee recipes I got from the magazine.  I made this one yesterday.

Maple Cinnamon Coffee

6 tbsp. ground coffee, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 cup pancake syrup, 4 1/2 cups cold water, 6 tbsp thawed cool whip.   Place coffee in filter in brew basket of coffee maker, sprinkle with cinnamon.  Pour pancake syrup into empty coffee pot.  Add water to  coffee maker, brew.  When brewing is complete , stir until well blended.  Top with cool whip.   I did not follow their recipe exact.  I just made us 6 cups of coffee, using the amount of ground coffee I always do.  Adjust it to your taste.  I did not top mine with cool whip.  I did however use coffee creamer.  This is good with  gingerbread creamer but you could use whatever you like.  There are lots of new flavors available right now.

I made this recipe today.  Spiced Orange Coffee.  Into the brew basket I added the ground coffee, enough to make 6 cups.  Add to the coffee grounds, 1 tbsp orange zest, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon.  Put 1/3 cup packed brown sugar into empty coffee pot.  Brew.  Stir until sugar is well blended.   Both these coffees were very good.   I know many of you don’t like coffee but maybe you could use these recipes with tea or even hot chocolate.

We have gotten tons of rain yesterday and today.  They are forecasted us to get snow flurries tonight.  We’ll see.  Right now, it is just gloomy and soggy wet.  Temperature is mid 40’s though so that is nice.  School is finished for the day so I guess I better get busy doing other things.  Supper tonight is fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, corn and  homemade jam for dessert.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

New Wall Colors

100_5115

This is the new color of the old laundry room.  The trim is white and the door is antique white.  Hubby has to finish the trim and then it will be all done.  He is also working on painting the bathroom.

The inside wall of the old laundry room is the original outside of the house.  Jess had this paint left over from her bedroom.  I think it looks very good on this wall.  I wish I could figure out a way to take a picture that would show how it looks all together but it is a work in progress.  Hubby will paint the trim today.   After that we plan on going over to a friends house for a visit and a haircut.

Temperatures here are very nice.  It was 42 degrees when we got up this morning.   We decided to let the fire go out today.  YEAH!  That always makes me feel a little “springy”.    I have clothes to hang on the line (of course).  Don’t we always have laundry?

I changed my supper menu last night to fried chicken, potato salad and green beans.  It was so nice and warm.  It reminded me of picnic days.  Tonights menu will be chicken stir fry with egg rolls.  I fried enough chicken last night to have left over for tonight.  I like to do that.  It makes the cooking a little easier and faster if I the meat is cooked in advance.

Time to hang my clothes outside and listen to a little praise music from our birds.  They are starting to sing such beautiful spring songs.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

A New Shelf

100_5110

This is a picture of our new shelf Hubby and I made yesterday for the new laundry room.  I’m sorry  it is not a very good picture.  I forgot to take the picture before we moved it into the room.  After it was in the room, I couldn’t get enough room to show the whole shelf.  The top shelf is 5 ft tall and it is 30 in. long with a depth of 9 in.  I will be storing all my laundry and cleaning supplies on it.   He will be building another shelf soon to store our bulk items.

Temperature here is very nice today-upper 40’s.  Sunshine.  I love it.  The girls are working on school and I am getting ready to hang more clothes on the line outside.   Hubby is busy painting the old laundry room.  I am a blessed woman.

I am making homemade pizza for lunch.  Supper menu will be fried chicken, gravy, corn and homemade biscuits.  As I said earlier, I am a blessed woman.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

A Good Laugh

100_5031

I thought you all might enjoy a good laugh today.  When I make fried chicken I bread the chicken inside a plastic bag.  I put the flour and stuff in the bag, put the chicken in and shake.  Well, this is what happens if the bag burst.  I would have loved to see the look on my face when it first happened.  I know it was priceless.  Of course, my loving girls had to run and get the camera so they could have proof that this really happened.

It was hilarious.  They had to get Hubby so he could see this beautiful woman he married.  We all laughed so hard.  What else could we do?

My thanks to my sweet Julie who helped her mama clean up this mess.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Apron

100_5022

I finally finished the apron using one of the new patterns.  What do you all think?  I think my other apron pattern was a lot easier and faster but I know it is time to step it up a notch.  My thanks to Grace for modeling for me.  I used some material I already had to practice on.  I’m not sure I like the rick rack, though.  I have another pattern to try and then I will decide which one I want to use for the matching mother, daughter, doll aprons.

No church today due to bad weather conditions.  Dave, Jess, and boys did get to come yesterday however the wind came also.  It was just too cold for Daniel to play in the snow.  Wind chills below zero.  We had a good visit though.  I made fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and homemade rolls for “lupper”.   For those of you confused by this term, this is when it is too late for lunch and too early for supper.  We also had cushaw pie for dessert with whipped creme.

Now I must tell the story of why we had fried chicken for lupper.  Earlier in the week, Jess had mentioned she would like to have fried chicken.  As I knew they would not get to stay long, I thought something a little faster would be better.  I decided on hot roast beef sandwiches with green beans.  They called when they were on the way here and she jokingly said David would have liked fried chicken too.  This conversation was on speaker phone.  Hubby overhearing about the fried chicken, which happens to be his favorite meal, said “Oh, I didn’t know fried chicken was an option”.  By this time I am feeling a little out numbered so I decided to give in and make the chicken.  It was a wise choice.  Everyone enjoyed the meal and that makes this mama’s heart happy.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Rolls

100_4676

I thought I would share a picture of my rolls.  Always before I have put them on a cookie sheet to bake.  When I do this, I get 13-15 rolls.  Over the weekend, I tried something different and put them into 3 round cake pans.  I get 21-24 rolls using these pans and I think they look and taste better.  Yesterdays supper was fried chicken, home canned corn, and gravy.  With of course, these rolls.

We worked on the apples some more yesterday.  I canned this juice instead of freezing it.  Freezing it is much easier but, Praise the Lord, my freezers are getting full.  I have to save some space my the deer my Hubby will be getting.  Notice my positive thinking!  Anyway, we got 5 qts of juice and 2 qts of applesauce.  Hopefully, we will be doing more today.

I am trying out a new recipe for apple muffins for breakfast.  Thanks Cheryl for sharing.  They have just came out of the oven.  I think I will go enjoy them.  Take care and God bless.

Peaches

100_4124

Today we have been busy with peaches.  We had 11 qts of peaches.  After peeling them, I decided to try out my new helper.  I put the peelings into the steamer juicer and got 2 qts of juice.  From that juice, I made 6 pts of jelly.  I think they look really pretty in the jar.  It was  easy to do.  I think it was a wise investment.  Supper this evening was fried chicken, gravy, corn and biscuits.  Of course, peach jelly for dessert.

100_4107

A new visitor to our pond.  He (or she) arrived the other day for a short visit.  Hubby says he thinks it is an egret.  Of course, he stood out with his white color.  I think the geese were a little amazed.  We have been having rain lately.  It is raining now as I am doing this post.  I had hoped to go to the garden and check on things but I don’t think that will be happening.  Oh well, maybe I’ll just rest.  Take care and God bless.

Blackberries

100_4106

Our blackberries are doing much better than I thought they would.  Today makes 3 gal. I’ve picked. YUM!

100_4105

Yesterday we finished the pears.  Later, we went up to the garden and SURPRISE!  Lots of beans were ready.  We canned 15 quarts and had enough for dinner and lunch today.

Tomorrow we will be going down to Jessica’s.  Sam has a doctors appointment so the girls and I will be playing with Daniel.  Jess is going to make supper for us before we come back home.  Last night’s menu was fried chicken, green beans, and rice.  We had cantalope and watermelon for dessert.  It certainly has been hot here for the last few days.  Hotter than usual I think.  Oh well, fall will be here soon and everyone knows what follows fall.  I think we better enjoy these hot, summer days.  Cold winter days will be here before we know it.

I think the girls and I will make pizza sauce to can today from the tomatoes we picked yesterday.  The recipe I use is:

1/2 cup oil, 4 med. onions chopped, 4 cloves garlic, 1/4 cup dried parsley, 1 gal. tomato juice, 2-12 oz cans tomato paste, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tsp. oregano, salt, and basil, 2 bay leaves, 3/4 tsp. black pepper.  mix all ingredients, simmer about 2 hours.  Process pints 30 min on 10 lb pressure.  Yields about 12 pts.  I will be adding banana peppers and some hot peppers to mine today as I have quite a few of these in the garden.

I guess I better get busy with these projects.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Golden Hills

100_2732

This was the view this morning from my kitchen window as I washed the morning dishes.  Am I a blessed woman or what?  We did get to have our Ladies Study today.  Hallelujah!  The snow has not started yet.  They are predicting 10-13 inches.  This will probably mean no church on Sunday which of course makes for a long week.  However if all goes as planned Jess and crew will be coming up next weekend.  She wants us to sew her some maternity clothes.  We will be going to a local fabric store called Schoolhouse Fabrics.  They have 3 stories full of nothing but cloth.  Then we will come home and snuggle in for 2 days of sewing, and of course lots of MawMaw time.  I can hardly wait!  It is almost supper time.  Tonights menu is one of Hubby’s favorite.  Fried chicken, gravy, corn and biscuits.  I think I’ll throw in some cooked apples too.  YUM!  Are you hungry yet?  Well, I am.  Guess I better get started frying that chicken.  God Bless.
