Christfest 2011

Every year our church has a halloween alternative. We call it Christfest. It is a big outreach. Lots of children come to play games and get candy. Last night was no different. Our fellowship hall was overflowing with children and adults, laughing and just in general having a great time. This little lion (Kaleb) is adorable.

Chocolate candy is always abundant. As a matter of fact, in the bulletin when we are requesting donations of candy, it actually specifies individually wrapped chocolate.

This young man was just a doctor, then he got the glasses at one of the games, and instantly became a mad scientist.

Everyone participates. From clowns,

to hunters,

to fun loving,

to one needing a small nap. Our pastor (regrettably I did not get any pictures) asked the children bible questions. If they answered correctly they got to throw a whipped creme pie at him. I’m not sure who had the most fun with this game, him or them. It actually was his idea-go figure. And last of all, my baby girls. No longer babies, except to me.

Another Fall Picture

I know, another fall picture but soon all the colors will be gone and it will only be snow pictures again. David, Jess, and the boys are on their way up this morning. Our church does a halloween alternative, which we call Christfest. It is always lots of fun. We will be doing it tonight. Kids and adults both usually dress up. I hope to take lots of pictures to show everyone. We will be eating at church for the evening meal. Lunch here will be burgers on the grill with homemade buns, home fries with ranch dressing for lunch. Depending on time, I might make a pumpkin pie-not sure. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy your day. Pioneer Lady

This is my friend Barbara. No, she is not a real pioneer lady. She is one of our Friday Ladies Study group. She needed an outfit for a Red Hat function and this is what we come up with. She looks so good! I made the skirt and the apron for her. She got the bonnet at Schoolhouse Fabrics here in Floyd. I had so much fun making the apron. I have never attempted an apron this this before. It was challenging for me but I so enjoyed doing it. I think I will make one for myself, maybe even the girls. We think this would be an excellent costume for Christfest (halloween alternative) at church. The sun is trying to shine here but the clouds seem to be winning the contest right now. Hopefully it will be warmer today. School as usual. We are almost finished with spelling, only two more word lists. This is when it starts getting exciting again. When you can see the end in sight. I have to make pickled eggs today. My hubby loves pickled eggs. I make some every year at Easter and Christmas and sometimes in between. I will try to document the process and post on it tomorrow. Wall Hanging

This is my latest project. What do you’ll think? I have never been very good at hand sewing, however I have decided to hand sew each of my girls a wall hanging. Notice I did not say quilt(much too big a project). I thought though that a wall hanging would be do-able for me. I gave this one to Jess and plan to start one for Julie soon, then Grace. It really was a lot of fun. I guess because it was kinda different for me. I always enjoy trying new projects. Well the big news around here is the temperature. COLD!!! The actual temperature was around zero this morning with a wind chill of somewhere around 15 or 20 below. VERY COLD!!! Dave and Jess and Daniel came up this weekend. Of course, they are now accustomed to more southernly temperatures so they were very cold. But then we were very cold too. I really pray it doesn’t stay this cold all winter but I do recall one January about 5 years ago, the temperatures stayed like this for the entire month. Have I mentioned I don’t really like cold. Oh well, maybe this will kill out all the squash bugs that attacked our garden last year. We will (hopefully) find out Tuesday if Jess is having a boy or a girl. Sometimes those babies are shy and don’t want to let anyone know. Anyway she is starting to show her pregnancy and getting some flutterings which is very exciting. It was very good to have them up this weekend, they had not been here since Halloween and thats way too long. It’s almost time for our Sunday Night Study so I guess I better get busy. I’m taking leftovers from yesterday’s feast. God Bless.

Flowers

These are some late blooming flowers in one of my flower beds. Yes, I actually took these pictures this morning . Temperatures in the low to mid 30’s. These flowers are close to the house so they are kinda sheltered. I certainly am glad they decided to bloom so late, adding their special color to fall. Almost all my flowers are gone so these are especially appreciated. I think today I will work on making Grace’s poodle shirt for our Christfest (Halloween alternative) at church. The girls look forward to it every year. Lots of games and of course more candy than any 2 girls could eat. We have a new member at our Friday Ladies Bible study. So good to have you, Vicki! We had a surprise yesterday. We heard a kitten meowing in one of our outbuildings. When we went to check it out we discovered 3 new kittens, 2 gray, and 1 black with a little white on her face. I will try to get a picture of them later today and post it so you all can see them. They are very cute! Of course, we never seem to have a shortage of cats here on the farm but no matter how many we have it is always exciting to the girls to find new kittens. Hours of playtime for them. Well it is time for me to do some work. God Bless.
