Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was very nice. On Friday, Jess and the kids came up. She had found a new laundry soap recipe she wanted to try. So far, we like it.
On Saturday, it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL here! We worked outside all day, trimming trees and such. I love days like that. We, however, woke this morning to ice covering everything. Oh well, I know spring is on its way. I have a big kettle of homemade soup cooking on the wood stove. It smells go good.
I guess I better get busy. Enjoy your day and God bless.
I
We are experiencing typical March weather. One minute snow the next minute sun.
Very pretty to look at, however it is already almost all gone. I did want to tell you all that yesterday I made chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. At first, I was very hesitant as I have never made noodles before. These were very easy to make and everyone (to my surprise) loved them. I will definitely be making them again. I got the recipe from a new to me blog-penniesandpancakes.blogspot. I have made several of her recipes this week and have been impressed with all of them. Definitely keepers!
Well, I better get busy. We are trying a new recipe out tonight. It must be my week for new recipes. Do any of you get the magazine Kraft Food & Family? It comes out every 3 months. My spring copy came in the mail yesterday. My darling daughter, Jess, gets herself and me a subscription. Thanks Jess! I really love the magazine. It is full of easy, good recipes. Tonights new recipe comes from this magazine. It is called spaghetti with shrimp and broccoli. I’ll let you all know how it turns out.
Update on how it turned out-DELICIOUS! Another keeper.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a great day so far. We have worked on half school today as we are going to get haircuts this afternoon. I found this new recipe for bread and so I am taking this loaf to Mrs. Faye as a thank you for cutting our hair. We also plan on sharing these cinnamon buns with her.
I got this recipe from http://redfarmhouse.blogspot.com/search?q=one+rise+bread.
I also wanted to share another new recipe I am trying. I got it from here http://belovedsbride.blogspot.com/ I had a beef roast to put in the crockpot this morning. Amazing how things work out that way. It sure does smell good cooking.
Another new thing I did last month was bake our bacon in the oven. Jess does this all the time so I thought I would give it a try. We buy our bacon at Sam’s in a 3 lb package. Last month, I baked the entire package at one time. Instructions are here: http://blog.makezine.com/craft/kitchen_101_cooking_bacon_in_t/ I then froze the precooked bacon. Wow, I’m thinking, why hadn’t I thought of this before. Now all I have to do is get out the amount of bacon needed for breakfast, heat it up in a skillet or microwave and ta-da bacon is ready. I am impressed with how fast it is and how crispy the bacon is. Of course, the instructions on the post said to throw away the bacon grease that accumulates in the pan. I’m sure that ain’t right! I would never throw away good bacon grease. Mine is in a jar in the fridge and has already been used several times. Once, for some refried beans I made the other day that was delicious.
Well, that’s about it. I hope you all have a great day and God bless.
Hello everyone! I wanted to let you all know how everyone is doing. I came home yesterday. The Bates clan seems to be on the mend. A long way from better but on the mend. Jess took Daniel to the doctor this morning. He has a lot of congestion and a double ear infection. Also please pray for our friends, the Horns. As of right now, 3 out of 5 of them have the flu and one has strep throat with the flu. I know many blogs I read have had this bug going through them. It is horrible.
Today we are working on school and other normal things. The girls and Hubby kept things running smoothly here while I was away. I did come back up Sunday morning and went to church. You all remember, Sunday was the girls big day of playing music. They did a great job. I hope to get a copy of the CD this weekend. If I can figure out how to put it on, I’ll try to share some of it with you all.
Well, that’s about it. Lunch break is over and time for us to start back on school. Thanks again for your prayers. God bless.
I just wanted to give you all an update on little Sam. He is doing some better. He still has a long way to go but is much improved from the other day. He managed to come through it without a hospital stay which is a good thing. We so appreciate your prayers and ask that you would please continue to pray for him. I just got a call from Jess and she is on her way to the doctor with Katie. She is congested and running a fever. Please include Katie and Jess in your prayers. David is gone to Vegas so Jess is holding down the fort alone. I think the keeper of the fort could really use some prayers..
Yesterday, we went bowling with the Horns. We had a great time. I think I have mentioned this before, our bowling alley does a thing called homeschool bowling. The first Friday in every month, homeschoolers can bowl for $l.50 a game and the shoe rental is free. We are hoping to do it again next month.
Today is fairly nice here in Floyd. When we first got up, the temperature was 19 with a wind chill of 9 degrees. It has warmed up to about 25 degrees now and we have sunshine. Not too bad for January.
Well, I hope you all have a great day. We are planning on doing a little housecleaning and working some on the chicken nests and lot area. Kinda a slow day. Tomorrow the girls will be doing all the music for church. Our piano player is gone on a little vacation so the girls are doing the music. Grace is doing the congregational for Sunday School. She is playing “What a friend we have in Jesus”. She is also playing the doxology and a congregational for worship service-“Rock of Ages”. Julie is playing “Sweet Hour of Prayer” for her congregational and “Softly and Tenderly” for the invitational. Julie is also doing a special, “The Old Rugged Cross”. She will be singing and playing it. BIG DAY! Pray for them, that all will go well.
I guess that’s about all. Enjoy your day and God bless.
UPDATE ON KATIE: I wanted to let you all know, Katie has the flu. Jess is supposed to try to keep Katie and Sam apart so Sam doesn’t get it too. I am going down to help. It would be so hard for Jess to manage all this alone. I am thanking you all in advance for your prayers. God bless.
You all are looking at one sick little boy. Please pray for him. Jess took him Tuesday to the ER and they said he had bronchitis. They gave him a breathing treatment and a steroid shot. Last night he got worse. She called us at 3:30 this morning to be in prayer for him. He was running a high fever and nothing she did seemed to help. Anyway, after a long night, she took him back to the doctor this morning. He now has pneumonia. They are given him a breathing machine to take home. She is supposed to use it every 6 hrs, also giving him a very strong antibiotic. The doctor told her to go to their local health food store and get buckwheat honey. Buckwheat honey has medicinal properties that will help with all his coughing. I appreciate all your prayers. Thank you and God bless.
God was certainly showing off yesterday morning. We had an absolutely beautiful sunrise. The colors were so vibrant. These pictures DO NOT do it justice but I wanted to share it with you all anyway.
We were not the only ones who noticed how beautiful it was. I turned the tv on yesterday evening to catch the weather and the weatherman was talking about all the sunrise pictures they had been getting in.
The girls and I went down to Jessica’s yesterday to watch the kids while Dave and Jess went out on a date. David will be traveling to Las Vegas next week for a conference and they were wanting a little alone time. It was a good day.
Today is back to school. We originally had planned on Dave and Jess coming up today but little Sam is sick. I hope you all have a good day and God bless.
Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a great week. Things have been nice here. Warm temperatures and sunshine. I LOVE it! I know it won’t last but it sure is nice for now. We did build a fire yesterday and I already have one going this morning but it is December, right. I thought I would share with you all a fun craft we did at church Saturday.
But, of course, we had to eat first. Can you see the red striped dish in this picture? I would have never guess what that is. It is turnips!! I have never seen turnips that look like that. They were really good though. I would like to find out the name of them. That would be the type I would like to have next year. The lady who brought them didn’t know anything about them. She had bought them at a local store. If any of you know the name of them, I would appreciate you letting me know.
A lady from our church had all these little terra cotta pots. She painted them for us. Actually she did all the prep work for the craft day. All we had to do was put everything together. I wanted to get detailed pictures for you all but once we started on them, everything went too fast. Anyway, here is the finished product.
Aren’t they cute! I made the red one, Grace made the purple, Julie’s is next and we all worked on the pink one. It is for Jess. I think they are adorable. They are supposed to be ornaments but we don’t have our tree up yet. As of now, they are brightening up our dining room window sill.
Well, time for us to get started on school. I hope you all have a great day and God bless.
