Fairystone Park

Yesterday we met Dave, Jess and kids at Fairystone Park for a picnic and a fun day out.  We have lived here in Floyd for almost 13 years.  This state park is just about 40 minutes from our house.  I have no idea why we have never been to it before.   We all had a great time.  We had grilled chicken, mac and cheese, potato salad, pork and beans, and a green salad.  Delicious!!

Can you guess what we had for dessert?

While Dave, Jess, Daniel, Sam, Julie, and Grace spent all day in the water, Pawpaw and MawMaw had the “hard” job of watching Katie.  She sure is growing.

We all had a great time and definitely want to go again.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

A Good Day

Yesterday was such a fun day.  Daniel and Sam spend the day with us.  We went riding in the “bumpy truck.”  When we came back Daniel told me “That SURE was a fun ride, MawMaw.”  I love it.  Children are so easy to please.  Just simple things make them so happy.

Wild strawberries we saw blooming on our ride.

PawPaw, of course, pointed out the deer trials.  It was a very nice day here yesterday, warm with lots of sunshine.  This allowed for lots of outside playing.  They saw the chicks, the new kitties, the baby calves and the goslings.  A full day in little boy world.

We had a storm pass through last night with thunder,  lightning and lots of rain.  I’m not sure what the day will hold.  Right now it is cloudy and everything is soaked.   Maybe not a good day for hanging clothes on the line.   We’ll see.

This rosebush came up on its own at the fence line.  It has had a tough time getting started.  The cows keep wanting to eat it.  This year though it is huge and full of buds.  It has never bloomed before so we are excited to see what it looks like.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Hard Worker

We start them working young around here.  Daniel was a big helper Friday as PawPaw, MawMaw and Daddy worked cutting wood.  He rode in the “bumpy truck”.  He was a very tired, very dirty, little boy at days end but definitely a very HAPPY little boy.  He had so much fun and I considered myself blessed to be part of his fun day.

They have been visiting since Thursday and we had a wonderful visit.  Dave and Hubby went to shoot sporting clays Thursday and Saturday.  We worked on the wood Friday.  David will need to go back to work tomorrow to rest.   We have been having beautiful weather here in Floyd.  Friday, when we were cutting the wood, we worked in short sleeves most of the day.  Temperature was in the mid 50’s.  Unbelievable but great.  Temperature today is 40 degrees.  It is a little overcast with some sun and a slight breeze.  So much better than last week (in my opinion).

I think I will go enjoy some of that sunshine.  Take care and God bless.

Enjoyment

Time to enjoy some of the fruits of our labor.  Our first zucchini, our first squash, and our first peas.  Delicious!! I think it is so exciting when the garden first starts coming in.   I combined all these together with a few other ingredients and had a wonderful stir fry for supper last night.  I am eating the remainder of it for lunch today.  Today is ladies bible study day.  We are on our third lesson.  It is about being a true servant of God and how we can encourage our church leaders.  I think it is a very interesting study.  Many times in churches today, the members can’t encourage their leaders because they are too busy criticizing them.  This lesson shows us ways to avoid that trap.  The girls and I cleaned house yesterday, found some new kittens (which are adorable) and in general just enjoyed the day.  Dale and his mom came by for a visit and to pick up his wood splitter.  They came right when I was taking some homemade rolls out of the oven.  It was so much fun to be able to share them.  Hot and buttery.  YUM!  Food is so good when it’s shared.

Can you believe this is the baby geese?  They are almost as big as mama and papa.  It certainly has been entertaining to watch them grow.  This morning as Hubby and I enjoyed our morning coffee together, there were lots of wildlife activity  here on the farm.  The geese were playing at the pond,  a deer was grazing in the field straight in front of us, and a coyote was passing through on the ridge to our right.  Some mornings we don’t see anything but cows and birds.  Other times there are lots to watch.  I so enjoy our morning time together.  We think its worth getting up a little earlier for.  The ladies will soon be here so I guess I better get ready.  We are going to Jessica’s tomorrow.  PawPaw has yet to see his new grandson.  Take care and God bless.

Busy Days

I’m sorry I don’t have a picture to post today.  Things have been very busy around here this week.  We got to have some MawMaw and PawPaw time Tuesday and Wednesday.  Those of you who are grandparents know that takes top priority over everything else.  Daniel’s highlight of his stay was riding around the farm in PawPaw’s truck.   Wednesday night was really nice.   David, Jess, and Daniel went to the fellowship meal with us at church.  Everyone (of course) was tremendously impressed with Daniel.  Thursday morning brought water heater problems.  We replaced both elements and thought our problem was fixed.  We should have known better.  Never does plumbing go that smooth.  We left to have dinner with some friends of ours.  We were blessed to pick some apples at their farm.  We came home and discovered a hugh water leak under the sink.  I mean really under the sink, between the dirt and the floor.  The back part of our house sits directly on the ground so this presented a rather large problem.  MY WONDERFUL HUBBY ( with my help) managed to get this fixed today.  Also I have decided to attempt to sell my crafts at another festival.  This one will be Oct. 3.  This means I have 1 week to get more stuff made.  Today after helping with the plumbing and putting poly on a cabinet we are making for ourselves, I finally got to do some sewing.  I made a set of cloth napkins, 1 apron, and set up 1 lap quilt.  Hopefully I will finish the quilt tomorrow.  It is a Christmas quilt.  I will try to post a picture of it when finished.  Well it is late. I am tired.  God Bless.
