I thought I would share a few pictures of my teapots, sugar bowls and creamers with you all. I think I have told this story before but some of you may not know it. This sugar bowl and creamer belonged to my mother. She told me when she was a very young girl, a man came by the house peddling his wares. He was riding a horse and carried his things to sell inside saddle bags that hung down each side of the horse. He was showing his things to sell to my grandparents and my mother saw this set. She asked if she could have it and my grandfather said yes. This was a rare treat as few things were ever bought at her home. This was the first item to go into her “hope chest.”
And here they are sitting nice and pretty on the shelves Hubby built for me.
Today is cloudy here with a coolness in the air. I think we are supposed to get cooler temps this weekend. We went over to clean the church yesterday. It was our last week of cleaning until next September. The men at church have been working on putting a roof over the entrance to the basement. Grace got a few pictures of them hard at work.
They got quite a lot done and they are working there today as well. I hope you all enjoy your day and God bless.
Look what I found today at the dumpster. Beautiful! I should tell you all that at our dumpsters people set things out beside the dumpster for others to get. It is amazing the things you will find. It is not uncommon to find appliances like dryers, etc. Sometimes they will even put a paper on it telling you what is wrong with it. We call it “greenbox shopping” (our dumpsters are green). Anyway, today when I stopped to put the trash in, there was a box with this beautiful teacup in it.
Also this set of old teacups. No saucers though. Oh well, I guess you can’t have everything.
And this old sugar bowl. I could hardly wait to get home and clean them up. I love old dishes.
Today was busy running errands and shopping. We have been gone all day. Thank the good Lord our car has air conditioning as it is hot again today. Grace has a dentist appointment tomorrow so we will be gone most of the day again. Well, it is past time for us to eat supper so I better get busy. Tonight’s menu is garlic bread and baked spaghetti with cantalope for dessert. Enjoy your evening and God bless.
Today I was doing some much needed cleaning on the shelves that hold my teapots. I came across this old cream and sugar set. There is a story that goes with these. These are approximatedly 75 years old. They belonged to my mother. She said when she was a very young girl-about 6 or 8 yrs old-an old peddler came by their house riding a horse. On his horse, he had several saddle bags filled with trinkets to sell. One of them was the cream and sugar set. She said she remembered begging her dad to buy them for her. I guess she must have given him the right look because as you can see he did purchase them. My grandfather was a logger and money was not easy to come by. This set always held a special place in her heart. Every time she would clean them up, she would tell me this story so today, as I cleaned them, I told my girls how this particular set came to be in our home. Memories are special. They need to be shared.
This is another old set I have. The sugar bowl was my grandmothers and the cream pitcher was my mother-in-laws. Hubby bought me the teapot several years ago. All I need now are some cups and saucers to match.
Tonights supper is homemade soup. I am making a new bread recipe to go with it. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Enjoy your evening and God bless.
Here’s a picture of our new cabinets. Hubby designed and made them. I love them! The side pantry and the bottom cabinet has been made for a while. The top one we just put in today. I can’t wait to fill them up. Old Farmhouses never have enough cabinets or closets. The counter space will be used for a coffee area.
The Blue Willow Sugar Bowl belonged to my grandmother. I just love old things. They have so much character. I think I need to grind some coffee and enjoy a cup. God Bless.
