Our raspberries are getting ripe! YUMMY!!!! Black raspberries are one of my favorite fruits. We have a few vines we have been working on getting established and it looks like this year we might get enough to make a cobbler at least. (if we can keep the birds out of them)
Yesterday was a nice day. We came back from church and cooked steak on the grill in honor of Dad’s day. Steak on the grill is Hubby’s favorite meal. We had fries with it, rolls and ice cream for dessert. Our pastor’s sermon was very good. It was of course directed mostly to the men in the church. He preached on Ezekiel 22:30. The verse says “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land but I found none.” He challenged our men to be the one that could stand in the gap. It was a very powerful message.
Temperature here this morning is wonderful. Low 60’s with a pretty strong wind. Great for drying clothes. I have one load ready to hang out and several more to go. The girls and I have many errands to run today plus piano lessons. I guess I better get busy. Enjoy your day and God bless.
A picture of our grapes. They look like they will be plentiful this year. When we bought these vines several years ago, we thought we were buying purple concord grapes, however they are green. They first year we almost didn’t get any because we kept waiting on them to turn purple. They are very good, though. We just had to adjust to grape jelly not being purple. I am thinking about making grape juice this year. I have no experience with it though. All I’ve ever done with our grapes is make jelly but a family can only eat so much jelly. If anyone is familar with making juice, I would appreciate any advice you can give. I am thinking about purchasing a steamer/juicer for this but I am not sure it would be worth it. What do you all think?
It was extremely hot here yesterday. When we went to bed last night it was 90 degrees in our bedroom. When we got up this morning about 6:00 it had cooled down to 82 in our room, thats still pretty warm. Hopefully, today will not be as hot but it is what it is. Tomorrow our bible study will meet at Wanda’s house. She has air conditioning.
Our grapevine is looking very good this year. Last year we only had a few grapes, thanks to a late frost. Hopefully we will have much more this year. When we bought the vines I thought I was getting blue concord grapes. However these are green in color. They taste like concord grapes though and make great jelly-it’s just green instead of purple. They seem to be hardy and very productive and that’s what counts.
My mint is doing very well this year. I have to keep a close eye on it though as it loves to take over the garden. I think I will make mint tea today. I make mine by using 2 cups chopped mint leaves with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Let sit for 15 min. Sweeten to taste and refrigerate. This will make 1 qt. of tea. Delicious served cold with ice.
This mint is called pineapple mint. Very colorful. It makes a beautiful border and very good tea as well. Sometimes I mix the two mints together. I love making fresh tea. Today is my friend Vicki’s birthday. We are going over to her house for a cook out and to help her celebrate. I think I will take some fresh tea for her to try. The girls have started the housework so I guess I best help. Take care, enjoy your day and God bless.
