Daniel’s Birthday

Good evening everyone! I hope you have all had a good week. Today we celebrated Daniel’s 14th birthday. It is amazing to think he is 14.

He received an iPad from his mom and dad!

He was very surprised!

Grace and I got him a leather wallet with a dragon on it. He is very much into dragons.

I also made him an afghan. Green is his favorite color.

MeMe got him more dragon stuff but I didn’t get a picture of it.

Jess made him this awesome dragon cake.

It was a really nice party!!

God bless!

Sam’s Hot Sauce

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend so far. Today, Sam and I made hot sauce.

He has been wanting to make hot sauce all summer. He even grew some jalapeno peppers just so he could make hot sauce. His plants didn’t make enough peppers to make any sauce but a neighbor gave us some of his peppers.

So today we make hot sauce!! It was so much fun! He said it turned out exactly how he wanted it to. We used this recipe. https://www.chilipeppermadness.com/chili-pepper-recipes/hot-sauces/roasted-red-jalapeno-pepper-hot-sauce/

God bless!

Squash Soup

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great week.  We have been having really nice weather. Not too hot. I starting harvesting and preserving these rampicante squash this week.  Just look how big this one is!  38 inches!

After harvesting,  I cut them into pieces and bake in the oven. It takes about an hour on 350 ° or until it is soft.

I, of course, saved seeds from it. You can buy the seeds from https://www.rareseeds.com/store/vegetables/summer-squash/zucchino-rampicante-squash. I’m sure other seeds companies have them as well.

I then made the soup from this recipe https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/easy-butternut-squash-soup. We love this soup. I made it last fall and put it in the freezer. We were sad when it was all gone.

We have many more squash up there so I plan on putting more up in the freezer. From this one squash, I made 1 batch of soup and put enough in the freezer to make 2 more.

God bless!

Roasted Red Pepper Soup

I tried a new recipe today. I got the idea from Living Traditions Homestead. First I gathered some red peppers from the garden.

Roasted them in the oven. I then put them in a small kettle with a lid so they could steam.

Took all the burnt peelings off.

Then made the soup. Recipe came from

Roasted Red Peppers Soup

It was pretty good. But it seemed to be quite a lot of work. I’m not sure I will make it again but we’ll see. I have enough roasted peppers to make two more batches so maybe.

God bless!

Hair cut

I got my hair cut today. It had not been cut since March 2019.

Before

After

I really like. It definitely feels much cooler!

Adventure Time

I spent some time with this handsome young man yesterday. Jess had to take Dave’s mom for a doctor’s appointment. Grace and I stayed with the other kids. She and the older kids played upstairs while John Luke and I hung out together.

One of our most fun things to do is go on adventures. We look for B-17 bombers and army bases. You know, things like that.

We have a bomb ready just in case we need to defend our army base. I am so amazed at his imagination and all the things he can do that we never knew if he would be able to do. Thankful for God’s gifts.

We also spent some time this week helping Jess get her school room(dining room) ready.

I love school books and the freshness of a new school year!

I am working on getting more seeds saved this morning. It has been such a beautiful morning. Temperature was 46 when I got up. It felt so good after the heat we have been having. I love this time of year!

God bless.

Tomato and Squash Seeds

Hello everyone! Fall is getting close and you know what that means. Time to start saving seeds!❤ This is how I save tomato seeds. First, I squeeze out all the seeds.

I rinse them in a strainer to get out most of the yuck. Put them in a jar with water. Let sit 5 days.

After 5 days the water is looking yucky. The seeds are ready to strain again.

After straining I put them on a paper plate to dry. This takes at least a week, maybe more. I make sure they are really dry before I put them away.

I also saved some squash seeds this morning. I let the squash stay on the vine until the outside is hard and a dark yellow color. Then open them up, scoop out the seeds and let them dry.

This is my drying table so far. This table is a multi function table. I use it when canning, drying seeds etc. I got this table with S & H Green Stamps. Those of you who remember them know how long ago that was.

I hope you all have a great day. God bless.

Hello

I hope everyone has been having a good summer. Sorry I haven’t made a post sooner. Time just seems to rush by.

My garden has been really productive this summer. We have been doing lots of preserving, which I am super thankful for.

Our baby chicks are growing! They now enjoy the freedom of the entire chicken lot.

We are getting rain today from Hurricane Ida. I know lots of damage was done by this storm but we are very grateful for the rain. It has been an extremely dry summer.

Well that’s all for today. I just wanted to get back on here and get back into the habits of making posts.

God bless.
