I spent some time with this handsome young man yesterday. Jess had to take Dave’s mom for a doctor’s appointment. Grace and I stayed with the other kids. She and the older kids played upstairs while John Luke and I hung out together.

One of our most fun things to do is go on adventures. We look for B-17 bombers and army bases. You know, things like that.

We have a bomb ready just in case we need to defend our army base. I am so amazed at his imagination and all the things he can do that we never knew if he would be able to do. Thankful for God’s gifts.

We also spent some time this week helping Jess get her school room(dining room) ready.

I love school books and the freshness of a new school year!
I am working on getting more seeds saved this morning. It has been such a beautiful morning. Temperature was 46 when I got up. It felt so good after the heat we have been having. I love this time of year!
God bless.

Hello everyone! Fall is getting close and you know what that means. Time to start saving seeds!❤ This is how I save tomato seeds. First, I squeeze out all the seeds.

I rinse them in a strainer to get out most of the yuck. Put them in a jar with water. Let sit 5 days.

After 5 days the water is looking yucky. The seeds are ready to strain again.

After straining I put them on a paper plate to dry. This takes at least a week, maybe more. I make sure they are really dry before I put them away.

I also saved some squash seeds this morning. I let the squash stay on the vine until the outside is hard and a dark yellow color. Then open them up, scoop out the seeds and let them dry.

This is my drying table so far. This table is a multi function table. I use it when canning, drying seeds etc. I got this table with S & H Green Stamps. Those of you who remember them know how long ago that was.

I hope you all have a great day. God bless.

I hope everyone has been having a good summer. Sorry I haven’t made a post sooner. Time just seems to rush by.

My garden has been really productive this summer. We have been doing lots of preserving, which I am super thankful for.

Our baby chicks are growing! They now enjoy the freedom of the entire chicken lot.

We are getting rain today from Hurricane Ida. I know lots of damage was done by this storm but we are very grateful for the rain. It has been an extremely dry summer.
Well that’s all for today. I just wanted to get back on here and get back into the habits of making posts.
God bless.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend.
Several years ago, I bought kale plants at our local greenhouse. I got them in the fall. We enjoyed lots of kale that fall from them. They died back in the winter. Then came back in the spring. They have did this for 3 or 4 years now.

So this year, I decided to save seeds from them. First I let the seed pods dry out on the plant. Then I gathered them.

Put the seeds on a paper plate to dry for about a week.

Put them in a ziploc bag to save till time to plant. I don’t usually try to save these small seeds but I thought these would be worth it.
Enjoy your day and God bless.

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I did a garden update.

Things are growing good considering how dry it is. I really like the weed fabric.

These three pictures are of the upper garden. Just look at those beautiful peppers! They are a new to me variety called gypsy peppers. I got the seed from Hoss Tools.

This picture shows the raised beds I added this spring. I love how the A frame looks. Also check out the row of tomatoes!

This is the lower garden. I plant it a little later than the upper garden so we can harvest all summer. Those beautiful squash plants are volunteers. As of right now, I have no idea what variety they are. Time will tell!

I have beans and rampicante squash planted in this bed. The beans are Roma and they are almost ready to pick. See my ever faithful companion at the gate.

The rampicante squash is growing very nicely on the trellis. I have plants on both sides. Hopefully they will grow and meet in the middle. We grew this squash last year and loved it. It is a dual purpose squash. Great as a summer squash but also as a winter squash. We made soup from them last year and froze it. It was delicious! We are hoping to make more this year.
That’s all for now. I hope you all have a great day. God bless!

Dave and I have been working on a few projects at his house. This is the finished product of one of these projects. Recently I posted the first pergola build that we did. We finished the second one this past weekend and got the roof on.

The metal roofing is so nice. I love the color.

We poured some cement the weekend before that. It serves two purposes. It is a good solid step and a base for leveling up the pergola.
This area will get lots of use.
God bless.

Hello everyone! We have baby chicks! It has been a while since we had chickens here at the farm. We had weasel problems but hopefully we have everything predator proof now.
We went last Saturday to Martinsville Rural King and got them. It was our first girls day out since we got our vaccine.
We chose Saturday because it was June 5th. Our sweet Julie’s birthday. She would have been twenty three. She would have loved to get baby chicks on her birthday!
God bless!

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a few of my garden pictures. In the above picture-cabbage, broccoli, peas and bok choy. Also volunteer asparagus!

Zucchini and tomatoes!

Lettuce, onions and more peas!

Growing potatoes for the first time in these grow bags. So far I really like how they are growing.

Kale, spinach and extra zucchini plant

Cucumbers at the A frame trellis. I really like how this looks.

Another big thing we have new this year is the weed fabric. Dave and the kids came over earlier in the month and we got it put down.

I may change my mind as the summer goes on and the garden grows but right now I love it!

I have pole beans planted on the trellis between the tomatoes. I am planting many different varieties of pole beans to help us decide which one we like the best.

This trellis is all tomatoes. All together we have about 45 tomato plants!!

A small little pepper bloom. I am trying new varieties of peppers this year, Gypsy, Beaver Dam, Ajvarski, and Poblanos.

A beautiful bloom on a Jet Star tomato. This variety did really well for us last year.
I guess that’s all for now. I have much more to show but I don’t want to make this post too long. Many changes to the garden this year and I am loving it!❤
God bless!

Spring is officially here!
One of the first things we like to do in spring is make dandelion jelly. The kids came over yesterday and we started picking those beautiful yellow blooms.

We had a great time!

Getting off all the green part of the flower is not the fun part of making the jelly. But Grace and the kids made it fun by playing a word guessing game while we worked.
I love my little family so much!
God bless!
