Visit

This boy got to come (for the first time) to Mawmaw ‘s house by himself. Just him!! Grace and I try to have each kid over individually often so they can have some one on one time.

Because of John Luke ‘s challenges, he had never got to come just him. Praise God, he has overcome so many of these challenges in the past year!

So finally, the much awaited day has come!! The first thing he told me before we even got out of the car was “hungry” and rubbed his belly. So you know we had to have some cookies before we did anything else.

We walked all around the house looking at everything. We visited the garden, the rabbits and the duck. We had a great time!❤

Sweet blessings!

Garden Helper

I spent some time with this beautiful girl today!

She loves working in the garden!

And I love having her help!

Thankful and blessed!❤

Seedlings

I started these seeds the day before the power outage. They were without the heat mat for 4 days on my glassed in front porch and it was very cold. We had a huge ice storm that took the power out. I thought for sure they would just freeze in the tray but just look at how good they are doing!I started some herbs and peppers Monday and will be starting tomatoes next week. SO EXCITING!I am also working on a few changes in the garden. I will show pictures when I get it finished.Enjoy your day and God bless.

Seeds

I love starting seeds! Yesterday I put in one of the greenhouses on our glassed in front porch. Just sitting it there, I can feel the excitement that (to me) seems to radiate from it!

Just look how small these cabbage seeds are! Who could ever imagine that something that tiny would have the potential to become a huge head of cabbage? What an amazing God we have!! I think that’s one of the reasons I enjoy seed starting and gardening. Every day I can see how great He is!

I started seeds in every cell of this flat. I have never used these plug trays before but I thought I would give them a try. I found them at the dumpster years ago and have just kept them, thinking I would use them sometime. Well now is the time. I started cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi and lots of flowers. If it doesn’t work, I still have time to start more or just buy plants from our local nursery.

Such excitement!! God bless!

Projects

Hello everyone! I hope you have all been having a good week. Things have been good here. I have been working on a few projects. I learned a new crochet stitch. It is called the basket weave stitch. I think it is pretty.

I’ve been making a few of these hats and ear warmers. It is a new pattern for me. I really like how they look and they are easy to make.

I’ve also been making more raised beds for the garden. I made this one for the A frame. Now all I have to do is fill all these beds with dirt. It amazes me how expensive dirt is!!

I made this banner for the garden. I think banners are so pretty. I plan on putting this one at the gate.

Last year I bought these stackable planters at Dollar Tree. I didn’t have a lot of success growing things in them last year. I plan on trying again this spring so I brought them in, washed them up and got them ready to plant in.

My latest project! Years ago, we all, as a family, made several of these birdhouses. Hubby saved the pattern. I came across the pattern a while back in one of our buildings. The birdhouses we had built are falling apart. So I wanted to make new ones. Dave came over Saturday and helped me make the first one. Then yesterday, I made this one on my own. I made a few mistakes but I don’t think the birds will mind.

That’s about all for now. Enjoy your day and God bless!

Dave’s Latest Project

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a good weekend. Dave has been off on vacation during Christmas so you know we had to have a project! He wanted to make Jess a table for her kitchen. Hubby had oak boards that he had been saving so we decided to use some of them. They had to be planed first but I don’t have a picture of us doing that. Then we had to cut them down to the size we needed.

We started with the table top. We glued it all together using biscuits to help hold it.

Our helpers!

We used epoxy for the table top and tung oil for everything else.

We built the boxes for shoes. The table will sit at the kitchen door which is the door everyone comes in at.

It turned out so nice. I really like it and most importantly Jess loves it. It was lots of fun making it.

God bless!

Another Project

Hello everyone! Another beautiful day here in Floyd. I decided to work on an outside project since it is so nice.

I decided to make another raised bed. I like these smaller sizes. I think this one will be for kale or something similar.

I think it looks good. I like making these little projects. Keeps me looking forward to spring!

God bless.

A Completed Project and a Memory

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a great week so far. We had really nice weather today so I decided to finish up the a-frame trellis.

I really like how it turned out. I want to build a raised bed to put the trellis in. That will give me a little more growing space. I haven’t decided yet if I want to make it a wood raised bed or if I want to use cinderblocks. I have a while to decide before spring comes.

I also wanted to share a memory. You see the roll of twine in the picture. Well, about 30 years ago, my mom and my uncle bought themselves these rolls of twine. When they got them, they were huge! My uncle said to my Mom “Rosie, I think this twine will last us our lifetime!” Well it did and it is still being used. I use it every summer in the garden. When I first started working on the trellis, I thought I would just put cattle fencing on it but then I thought it would be fun to use Mom’s twine. She would have loved this project and it made me feel close to her to use the twine.

God bless!

Seed tools

Good morning everyone! I hope you all are having a great weekend.

Things are good here. I went over to Jess and Dave’s yesterday to help him put in a new stovetop. Their old one had cracked and they had ordered a new one. Turned out the new one did not fit correctly so we had to put the old one back on temporarily until they get a replacement.

While I was there, I picked up the seed tool set Dave had printed for me. I had shown him a picture of these earlier in the week and ask if he thought he could print me a set. These are exactly like the ones I wanted. I love them!

God bless!

Seed Tray Carrier

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend. Dave came over yesterday and set up my new headphones. I love them!

He also came up with this design for a seed tray carrier. My seed trays are old and not sturdy. Every spring, I think I just need to throw these away and get new ones. However, new quality ones are very expensive and so I just use what I have.

This carrier fits right up against the greenhouse shelf. I can slide the tray out, water the seedlings and then just slide them back on the shelf. No danger of the tray twisting and my seedlings falling out. I will show pictures of it in use this spring.

Thanks so much for designing and making it for me, Dave!
