I am attempting to learn how to copy pictures from facebook and put them on my blog.
Katie’s First Thanksgiving
I thought I would share with you all a few pictures from our Thanksgiving. Katie spend most of the time doing what she does best. Ain’t she beautiful!
Next two very handsome boys. Sam loves to have his picture taken. When he sees the camera, he will stop whatever he is doing and sit down for you to take his picture. Then he wants you to show it to him.
Then my “baby” girls. I am such a blessed woman. Thank you, Lord!
You will notice I am doing something a little different on the blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time and yesterday David fixed it for me. I now have a recipe link on the sidebar. Hopefully, I will be able to remember how to make it work. Today, I put the recipe for Oatmeal Muffins on. (Are you proud of me, Dave?) I got this recipe from my friend Cheryl at http://holcombhappenings.wordpress.com/ and it is one of my favorite breakfast muffins.
We will be working on Dave and Jessica’s bed today. Hubby hopes to get it finished this weekend. I hope you all enjoy your day and God bless.
More Fall Pictures
Here are a few more fall pictures. These was taken last Saturday during our hike at Bottom Creek Gorge.
Fall is such a beautiful time of the year. We have been working on school, cleaning up the garden for fall plowing and working on an afgan. Not a lot going on. Yesterday evening we gave Mr. Rooster away. YEAH! We gave him to a family that wants to hatch baby chicks for their young daughter to take of. He will be so happy.
Yesterday, it was rainy and foggy here. Then the temperatures dropped quite a bit during the night. It was 36 degrees this morning when we got up. The sun is out now though and it looks like it will be a beautiful day. Yesterday, I was reading a blogger friend’s post, http://theboydbunch.wordpress.com/, and she was having crockpot parmesan chicken for supper. I thought that sounded good and I had already planned on having chicken for supper so I looked up a recipe for it. I’m not sure if this is the same recipe she used or not but it was really good. I got my recipe from betty crocker. I did make a few changes.
Slow Cooker Chicken Parmesan with Penne Pasta
1 egg, 1/3 cup bread crumbs, 1/3 cup parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp. italian seasoning, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast, 1 jar spaghetti sauce, 1/2 cup shredded cheese, 2 2/3 cups penne pasta.
1. Spray crockpot
2. In a small bowl, beat egg until foamy. In another bowl, mix bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Dip chicken into egg, then coat with bread crumb mixture. place in crockpot. Cover chicken with spaghetti sauce.
3. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hrs. (I cooked mine on high for 4 1/2 hrs.)
4. Cook and drain pasta. Serve chicken on top of pasta. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top. (I used mozarella).
Makes 4 servings.
I hope you all enjoy your day and God bless.
Laundry Soap For Sale
Today I will be taking some of my homemade laundry soap to a store here in Floyd to see if it will sell. This is what the package looks like. What do you all think? I got the recipe and the package idea from a blogger friend of mine. You can read her blog at http://theblessedhearth.blogspot.com/. I really like this soap and I am hoping others will too.
I also want to get out all my old schoolbooks. Vicki is going to help me try to sell them on ebay. Later today, we plan on doing a picnic with them at Smartsview Park. FUN, FUN, FUN.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
Our Greenhouse Plants
Our plants are growing. YEAH! Today makes 2 weeks since we planted the seeds. I think they are doing really well.
The tomatoes and peppers seem to be the slower growing. The cucumbers and squash are the fastest. The broccoli and okra are growing pretty fast too.
Today is overcast and windy. The temperature is 60 degrees though so that is very nice. I have clothes on the line outside. We worked on school yesterday and then went into the library and piano practice. I found a book at the library. It is written by Ree Drummond. She has a blog www.thepioneerwoman.com If you have never been to her blog I am sure you would enjoy it. She has some excellent recipes and many interesting stories. The book I got at the library is about her and her husbands courtship and marriage. I think it will be very good.
Time for school. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless.
Whoopie Pie
The other day the girls and I made something new. New for us anyway. We made whoopie pies. To my remembrance I have never even eat a whoopie pie much less made one. It was very good though and I plan to make more. I got the recipe from another blog http://holcombhappenings.wordpress.com/ She has so many good recipes. We are getting lots of rain and wind today. I was hoping for nice weather as we are going to visit my uncle today. He and his wife live in Michigan. They are down to visit her stepmother who is in a nursing home in Salem. Salem is close to us so we plan on meeting them at the nursing home for a quick visit. We wanted to meet at a little park in Salem but weather is not cooperating. We will just have to visit somewhere else. I am certainly looking forward to seeing them. The last time we saw each other was about 10 years ago. Much too long.
I thought you all might enjoy this picture. Maple trees are one of the first to bud out here. Another sure sign of spring.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
I received this picture from Dave and could’nt wait to put it on my blog. Ain’t he just the cutest thing? Nothing says boy more than a baseball cap and a truck. Temperatures here have warmed up greatly. Highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. The girls have spent much time outside playing which of course Jasper (the pup) loves. The forecast however is calling for freezing rain Thursday night and Friday morning. Oh well, it is just the middle of January. Grace did find a dandelion in bloom yesterday, just to remind us spring is coming. Not much longer until we see some flowers in bloom. We normally have some early wildflowers that bloom here about the end of March- blood root, colts foot, and periwinkle. We get so excited when we see them. Only about 6 more weeks to go. In the mountains where I was raised, my Mom always planted lettuce, peas and onions on Valentines day. Can’t do that here. We have had frost as late as the end of May. I guess I better quit dream about spring and garden food and get to work. God Bless.
Cold Temperatures
Well, I have no picture for today. The time now is 4:30 and the temperature is 35 with rain. I laughingly told the girls we might get snow but now I’m thinking it might really be a possibility. We really haven’t gotten much snow here in the last 6 years just lots of cold and ice. I’d much rather have snow. School has went very well this week so far. 3 chapter tests. They made good grades on them which makes me think they are learning. Tonight is Team Kids at church and handbell practice for them. They really enjoy both. I don’t know if any of you all are familar with Team Kids but it really is a good program. It’s a lot like Awana but does not require as many adult workers so it works well for smaller churches. ( or larger churches with few volunteers!) Every week they meet, have a bible study, game time, snack time, and learn a memory verse. I think it is so important for children to memorize verses. Store His Word in their heart. Important stuff.
Well I quess I need to get moving if we are going to church. We have a fellowship meal at 5:30 and you know I don’t want to miss that. I suppose everyone who reads my blog think all we do at church is eat but we really do study and worship God. The food is just extra. God Bless
Fall Colors
Here is a picture taken from our back porch. The trees are really getting some color to them. This one is a little late getting color. I hope to get some really good fall pictures to post. The temperatures have been a little cool here, overcast and dreary. Not good weather for picture taking. School has been going pretty good. I read this ladies blog and she talked about how they took about 30 minutes every morning to pick up and clean up. We have been trying this out and it works so much better for us. I can concentrate on school then and I am not distracted by housework that needs to be done. Speaking of school, it’s time for us to begin. God Bless
New Dog
I must be getting soft in my old age. What was I thinking? We went to visit my oldest daughter this weekend. She wanted to get our grandson a puppy. We found some free and I suppose Dad and I gave in to the excitement of the moment and brought this guy home. He completely enjoyed the ride home(over 1 hour) in Julie’s lap so I suppose this means he likes to ride. He is lab and shepherd mix. We already have 1 large dog (chow and retriever mix)
He is an excellent farm dog and we want him to train Jasper to be a good dog also. Other than the puppy we also got some new clothes for the girls while shopping with Jess. Dad and David did some more remodel on Dave’s bathroom. Walls are sheetrocked and shower stall is built. Pictures of this can be found on Dave’s blog www.dlbates.com. We also received some much needed MawMaw and PawPaw time. I wanted to let everyone know my husband also has a blog he has started working on www.gdjg55.com. Check it out.
