Trout Fest

Remember a similar picture from last year.  Same little girl perched on the drainpipe.  Obviously she really likes the spot.

Now its brothers turn to sit for a while.  We really had a nice day with about 90 people showing up all total.  After we came home from the fishing we worked in the upper garden.  Hubby tilled, and the girls and I set out the plants.  They looked great.  But then they wilted badly.   We watered them when we planted them, again the next morning and again yesterday evening before we went to church.  Last night the Lord watered them for us so we are hoping they look better now.  I haven’t went up to the garden yet to check on them.  If they do not perk up, I am afraid they will not survive.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

We plan on going over to the Horns today for lunch and some play time then on to piano practice.  I don’t think I told you all but we have ducklings now-12 of them.  They are very shy and it is hard to get a picture of them.  Mama duck keeps them hid most of the time.  I’ll keep trying though.

Time for us to get busy.  I have a load of clothes to hang out on the line and several more to get done.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

A Good Day

100_5961

Yesterday was such a fun day.  Daniel and Sam spend the day with us.  We went riding in the “bumpy truck.”  When we came back Daniel told me “That SURE was a fun ride, MawMaw.”  I love it.  Children are so easy to please.  Just simple things make them so happy.

Wild strawberries we saw blooming on our ride.

PawPaw, of course, pointed out the deer trials.  It was a very nice day here yesterday, warm with lots of sunshine.  This allowed for lots of outside playing.  They saw the chicks, the new kitties, the baby calves and the goslings.  A full day in little boy world.

We had a storm pass through last night with thunder,  lightning and lots of rain.  I’m not sure what the day will hold.  Right now it is cloudy and everything is soaked.   Maybe not a good day for hanging clothes on the line.   We’ll see.

This rosebush came up on its own at the fence line.  It has had a tough time getting started.  The cows keep wanting to eat it.  This year though it is huge and full of buds.  It has never bloomed before so we are excited to see what it looks like.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Baby Gooseberries

100_5921

Our gooseberry bush promises to have lots of fruit on it this year.  We’ve glad as we really like them.  We spent today making a swing for our neighbor.  She is in her upper 70’s and loves to swing in her yard swing after working in the garden.  We first intended to  repair her old swing but it was just too far gone.  Hubby made her a new one exactly like her old one.  We took it down and hung it up for her.  She was very happy.  We so enjoy doing things that make others happy.

Today has been a nice day here in Floyd.  A slight breeze with warm temperatures.  You all will not believe how much our plants have grown in the greenhouse.  I will try to take a picture of them soon to let you see them.  Well, it is late and we are all hungry.  I’m frying chicken for supper with gravy, corn and biscuits.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Our Greenhouse

100_5607

Yesterday the girls and I decided to try our hand at making a greenhouse.  We found these old metal things in the field behind the house.  They were used as a round bale holder but had been broken years ago.

100_5614

Then we planted our seed and put the metal “thingie” over it.

100_5625

Then we covered them with plastic.  All of this is recycled material.  The only cost to us was the seeds.  We have never tried anything like this before.  I have attempted to start seeds indoors many different times but always with no success.  They grow too fast and then just die out so we just buy plants already started and use them.  I got this idea from my blogger friend at http://holcombhappenings.wordpress.com/.   Thanks, Cheryl.  We have about 30 days before danger of frost is over for us.  We are hoping our seeds will produce and we will be able to transplant them.  If this does well, I want to start our seeds earlier next year.    Anyway, it was a very nice day yesterday and we had a lot of fun making our greenhouse and planting our seeds.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

More Babies

100_5599

We have more babies!!  This morning Mama Goose came off her nest with 6 little ones.  Very exciting.   I could hardly wait to get pictures and show you all.   They had six little ones  last year and we so enjoyed watching them grow up.   We are looking forward to watching these grow up as well.

Saturday we had a great visit with my aunt and uncle-just didn’t seem long enough.   The time went by so quickly and we had so much to catch up on.  We hope to get to see them again soon.   Yesterday’s church message was very good.  He preached on how the Jews missed recognizing Jesus as the Messiah and how the same reasons still apply to the world today.  It was very interesting.

We will be doing school today as usual.  I have to help Hubby fix the drivers window on the van.  It has somehow managed to get off track.  He has to take the door panel off.  Hopefully, it will not be too difficult to fix.  I know I have said this before but I am so thankful  Hubby is talented in the area of fixing things.   I think it is going to be a fairly nice day here in Floyd.  It is a little overcast but I think the forecast is just partly cloudy.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Pan-Pan

100_5565

This cat’s name is Panther but somehow Grace started calling him Pan-Pan and now everyone  calls him that.  He is a very loving and playful cat.  Here he is thinking about “attacking” another cat that is walking by.

We seem to be on the mend here.  Grace (I think) is almost over it and Julie is feeling better than she was.   Hopefully we will soon be completely better.   Jess had planned on coming up this week with the boys and spending a few days with us while David is gone on a business trip.   This won’t be happening now.  Oh well, we hope to go down on Easter Sunday to spend the day with them.   Yesterday was a beautiful day here.  We had sunshine and warm temperatures after the fog lifted.  Today is slightly overcast but the temperature is warm.  I have clothes on the line outside to dry.  Our birds are singing beautifully.  I think it will be a nice day.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Spring Time

100_5528

Our forsynthia bush is in full bloom.  I love the bright yellow color, so cheerful.  Today is beautiful here in Floyd.  Temperature is mid 50’s, the sun is shining and the wind is not too aggressive.   Very nice.  I have one load of clothes on the line and another on the way.  We are busy with school and have plans for outside time this afternoon.

Yesterday was a nice day too.  Church was very nice and our evening study went very well with lots of discussion.  Our menu last night was beef roast with potatoes and carrots, green beans, macaroni salad, cookies and peaches.  Very good.  We did hamburgers on the grill for lunch yesterday, with grilled onions and asparagus.  I love cooking on the grill.  I think it makes everything taste so good.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Finished Health

100_5086

We are finished with health!  Isn’t that great?  The girls decided yesterday that since we were so close to being finished, they would just work on through to the end.  (This decision was made all on their own, I didn’t even suggest it)  I think that is amazing in itself but so typical of homeschool kids.

Today is a very nice day.  Lots of sunshine.  Temperatures are in the low 40’s.  Amazing!  I have clothes on the line, I love it.  The girls and I have been walking down to the barn to get milk this week.   Today’s walking should be fairly nice except for the mud.  I know, complain, complain.  But I really do not like walking in mud.  Good exercise though.

Tonights menu will be kielbasa with sauteed mushrooms, onion, garlic and green peppers served over brown rice.  I haven’t decided what to have for dessert yet , maybe a peach cobbler.  I have made little progress on the matching aprons.  I am very frustrated with myself.  I made an unfixabe error on the little girl apron.  I will have to transform it into a doll apron.  At least, it will be usable for something.  Well, that’s how you learn, I reckon.

I hope you all have lots of sunshine today and warm temperatures and that you are able to go outside and enjoy the beauty of the day.  God bless.

Fresh Bread

100_5053

Very few things say home more than fresh baked bread.  Clothes hanging on the line run a close second in my book.  I just pulled this bread from the oven and thought it looked soooooo good.  It smells delicious too.  I tried a different recipe today and am hoping it will be good.  I needed a good sandwich bread recipe.  Here is the recipe I used:

1-1/3 plus 1tbsp. water, 2 tbsp. butter, 4-1/4 cups flour, 3 tbsp. sugar, 2 tbsp. dry milk, 1-1/2 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. yeast.   I put these ingredients into my bread machine on dough cycle and let it do its job.  When the cycle was finished, I took the bread out of the machine, shaped it into a loaf and put it into my loaf pan.   If you do not have an extra long loaf pan, you will need to make 2 loafs.  Bake at 350 degrees until done.  It takes about 30 min. in my oven.

I also have been working on apron patterns and I think I have decided which one to do the matching aprons in.  I just have to adjust the pattern a little to compensate for what I don’t know how to do.  I will show pictures soon.  By the way, thanks Dave, for fixing my problem on the computer.

Warmer temperatures here today-35 degrees.  Hardly any wind.  A really nice day.  I have to go raid my material stash.  I will need a piece large enough to do all 3 aprons.  I’m not sure I have anything.  Hopefully, I will, as I would like to get started on them today.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Beautiful Sky

100_5035100_5034
Today has been a very pretty day here in Floyd. Beautiful sunshine and as you can see the sky is just amazing. Such a bright, vibrant blue. It is warmer than it has been. 25 degrees with very little wind. All in all, this makes for a fairly nice day.
I wanted to put a picture of my latest apron on, but for some reason I am having difficulties with my pictures. I think I will need some help, Dave.
Tonights menu will be pinto beans(cooked on the wood stove) Kielbasa with cabbage, cornbread and the buttermilk chocolate cake for dessert. Pintos cooked on the wood stove are just sooooo good. I guess they prefer slow cooking.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
