I wanted to share with you all my lastest yard sale find.  I love these old books.

Grace had a mishap with her glasses and we had to go get them repaired yesterday.  A startled chicken flew up from the roost and hit her glasses.  It messed up her nose piece.  On the way to Wal-Mart I noticed a yard sale sign.  Well you know, it is so hard to pass up yard sales.  I am so glad I stopped.   I got these books for 10 cents a piece.

I just love the pictures and the stories in these old readers.  I have several of them.  Look, they even have a dictionary in the back.

I know my girls are way past these books but I still love them.

A picture just for fun.  This little lady seems to be an escape artist.  She manages to get out of the fence almost every evening.  We looked out the window the other day and she was sitting here on the bench just resting.  All our animals seem to love this bench.

Well, I better go.  Our VBS starts tonight.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Old Books

I love old books, especially old school books.  I thought I would share a few of them.   I thought I might share how our school days “normally” go.  I usually wake the girls around 7:00 A.M.  They get dressed, make their beds and come downstairs by 7:30.  Sometimes they fix their own breakfast and sometimes I do.  It mostly depends on what they are having and how our time is running.   I begin cleaning up the kitchen and they start piano practice.  They practice 30 min. each.  While one is practicing the other one is helping me and then vice versa.  We shake the rugs and sweep the floors every morning.  We have certain days that we do other things, clean bathroom, dust.  I have a chart made with the days of the week on it and the designated chores for that day.  We try to have all the house chores finished before we start school.  It is so difficult for me to concentrate on school if these things are not already done.  Laundry gets worked in  every day.  We are normally finished with all this around 9:15.  They then get a 15 min. break to do whatever they want.  We try to start school by 9:30.  We say our pledges, pray and then begin.  Bible is always first.  Then they take turns chosing what subject they want to do.  Our subjects are bible, spelling, history, science, math and language.  Most days we are half way through by lunch time.  We break an hour for lunch.  Free time for everyone (except Mom).  We then finish up somewhere between 1:00 and whenever.  Yesterday was a long day for us.  It was about 3:30 when we finished.  Julie’s math was very long.  Today is an easier day.  It is now lunch time and all we lack is math.  I’m glad as we need to work up an 1/2 bushel of apples.  I already have them in the steam juicer and I want to make applesauce from them.  Well, our lunch break is almost over.   I hope I didn’t bore you all too much.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Our Latest Find

Here’s a picture of our latest yard sale find.  Saturday we went down to Jessica’s to celebrate Sam’s first birthday.  Happy birthday, baby boy.   We ended up not getting to stay for the party as Grace was not feeling well.  When we got down there, though, one of her neighbors was having a yard sale.  We walked over with Dave to check it out and found these books.  I could not believe it when she told me the price.  $5.00!  Yeah, I was one happy mama.  10 childrens classics.  I love old books.

Yesterday was my beautiful Julie’s 13th birthday.  Happy birthday my darling girl.  After church we went out to eat and then went to the movies.  We watched Kung Fu Panda 2.  Going to the movies is still a big treat for us.  We don’t do it very often because we want it to remain special and because there are very few good movies to go see.   Anyway we had a fun but busy weekend.

We got a little rain last night.  Hopefully enough to get the garden growing.  Sunshine today with comfortable temperatures.  Saturday morning we were down in the 40’s but I think that will be the last of the cooler mornings.  Well, I have clothes to hang out and school to do.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Old Books

I simply LOVE old school books.  Here are a few that I have collected over the years.  I learned to read with Dick and Jane and taught my girls with the same books.  They have such wonderful pictures.  The last picture is of two old books from my Dad’s childhood.  Inside the cover, there are the names of many of my aunts and uncles.  I suppose they just passed the books down.  Gotta love that.  We still do that here in this household.  Just pass them on.  These books have a very important place in my schoolroom/dining room, along with an old Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox.  The lunchbox is metal and still has the thermos in it.  It belonged to Jess.  Such happy memories.  100_2971

As you can tell, it was a much loved lunch box.  Lots of rain here last night.  Today has been overcast.  Temperature in the mid 40’s.  Not too bad.  Supper tonight will be pork tenderloin on the grill, fresh pineapple, home fries, home canned green beans and homemade biscuits.  For dessert we have some cinnamon rolls left over from the other day.  This will be served with cold mint tea.  Are you all hungry yet?  I am so I guess I better go get that grill going.  Take care and God bless.
