Wednesday

Hello everyone! This week seems to be speeding by. We had a great Easter weekend! We went down to Jessica’s on Sunday. The weather there was beautiful. When we left Floyd that morning, it was cold, rainy and super foggy. We still had snow in the shady places. It really felt good to have sunshine and warmer temps for the day.

We have started warming up some this week though. Temperatures have been in the 50’s with sun. Nice for doing outside work. The girls and I worked some on cleaning out the chicken house yesterday after school. Today we (Hubby included) worked on getting wood.

I wanted to share with you all a recipe for homemade window cleaner. Jess gave me the recipe. It really does work. We worked on cleaning Hubby’s van this morning. It is his work vehicle so it gets really dirty. I made a batch of the window cleaner and it worked really well cleaning the van windows. If it will clean them, it must be pretty good stuff.

Winter Wonderland

I thought I would share a few pictures of what it looks like here in Floyd. Maybe I shouldn’t say Floyd because from what I can understand not everywhere in Floyd looks like this. Some areas only got ice but we have snow on top of the ice.

Yesterday was spent not doing much of anything. Just chilling out, reading, playing games. Just a fun relaxing day. Watching it snow.

It is very beautiful, however, I do believe I am ready for warmer temperatures (I think I have said that before!) Next week, we are supposed to warm up considerably.

My hero! The first thing he does after a snow is to clear the vehicles and the walkway-just in case we want to get out. Thanks, babe! I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless.

Friday

Hello everyone! Today we have beautiful sunshine with temperatures in the low 30’s. We are going to the Horn’s after school. I am making a simple vanilla cake with caramel icing. I got the recipe from Mrs. Faye at http://theblessedhearth.blogspot.com/ I think it looks really good and can’t wait to try it.

We have a doctor’s appointment on Monday at 9:45 to go over the results of the blood work. I would appreciate your prayers concerning this.

Monday

Hello everyone! Seems like time goes by so quickly. I wanted to give you all an update on Hubby. He is doing some better. We did go to the doctor on Thursday. They did some blood work and we are waiting on the results.

We had a very busy but great weekend. Chuck and his family came and spent Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday with us. Irma and her kids were gone to N.C. to see her family. Her dad has been diagnosed with cancer. Anyway, Chuck and kids went with us to church on Sunday. We had a really good crowd at church. Several visitors, which is very unusual for us.

Today was school as usual. I had hoped to work on Sam’s quilt but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Probably won’t happen today. I have all the squares sewn together now and am ready to start putting it all together. I think it looks pretty good. I will take a picture and show you all when it is finished. I gave Alexius her quilt this weekend. She slept under it Saturday night. When they were leaving Sunday evening, she forgot to carry out her overnight bag. Chuck carried it out for her. He asked her if she had forgotten anything. She said, “No, I got my quilt.” She wanted to make sure she didn’t forget it.

We have been cold here today. Morning wind chill temperature was zero when we got up. We did have sunshine though but it still has been cold all day. I think I am ready for warmer temperatures. I got a new seed book in the mail today which we have already looked through. Looking at all that beautiful produce always gives me the fever to go play in the dirt. Well, it won’t be too much longer (I hope).

Wednesday

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a good day. Things are kinda slow here. Hubby is still sick-YUCK! He has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. I would appreciate your prayers for a healing for him. He does feel better today than he has in 2 weeks. I can see an improvement every day just not as fast as we would like.

Yesterday another ice storm came through. Everything was covered with ice. This morning though all is gone. YEAH! We have some sun with temperatures in the upper 30’s. We are supposed to get more snow come through Thursday and Friday. I know, though, spring is just around the corner. The birds are singing so pretty and the air just has a different feel to it.

Not much else going on here. School, laundry, housework. You know, just the usual stuff. Enjoy your day and God bless.

Rainy Tuesday

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with you all. We are getting some much needed rain here in Floyd. It rained most of the night and is still raining. Temperatures are warm though. Over the weekend we got up to about 60 degrees. Amazing! Right now it is 40 degrees. I will take this for January weather any time.

We are working on school as usual. I love routine days. Days that we just go along doing normal stuff. Hubby hasn’t found any work yet so he is still working on learning how to make bowls. He is doing a really good job.

I want to give an update on the homemade dish soap. I don’t think I will be making it again. I’m sure it cleans good but I just do not like the fact that it does not soap up. I really like to see bubbles in my water when washing dishes. Oh well, it was fun making it.

Well, I think that’s about it. Piano practice is almost over and then book work begins so I better be getting ready. Enjoy your day and God bless.

Homemade Yogurt Update

I wanted to give you all an update on the homemade yogurt. I did like it very much. I think it is the best recipe I have tried so far. I am going to try using pureed fruit next time as I think it could be more fruity. I used peach jelly with this try.

Not much going on here today. School, cleaning and laundry as usual. Our temperatures have dropped considerably. 25 degrees this morning when we got up. It is about 30 degrees right now as I type this. Needless to say, we do have a fire. I do not like cold but I do like having a fire. This way, we can cook on the wood stove and not have to use the electric stove. Saving money, yeah! Well, I don’t know exactly how much money it saves but I do enjoy doing it.

What We’ve Been Up To

The temperatures here have been wonderful. Upper 50’s for several days now. We actually did not have a fire yesterday or today. Amazing! So what do we do when it’s this warm outside-cut wood, of course! Here are a few pictures.

This tree had been dead for quite a while. It was a pretty big tree. I hope you can see it. If you look at the right of the picture you can see where we cut it down. Hubby was very glad for his new larger chain saw. His old one would never have cut through it.

The wooded area where we were cutting opens up into a beautiful field.

We wheelbarrowed the wood to the truck. This made it a little easier to load. Hubby had to split most of the blocks just so we could lift them into the truck. We worked on this tree for 2 days and still didn’t get it finished. Hubby’s chain messed up on his saw so we had to quit until he gets it fixed. We did school in the mornings and then after lunch we would go cut wood. It was hard work getting the wood around the hill but we had a good time working together. I told Hubby all this physical exercise was keeping us young (lol).

What is more fun than riding in the truck bed after a hard day of working. God is good. We are getting ready to leave for Sunday night bible study. We are studying in Exodus. Tonight’s menu is sloppy joes, potato chips and dip, cole slaw and dessert (unknown at this time). I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Friday

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful Friday. Things are good here. School is finished for the week. The girls and I are getting ready to clean out the chicken house. Definitely not a fun job but necessary. It is a nice day here in Floyd so that will make it a fairly pleasant job to do. We have been really cold here in the mornings though. Temperatures all this week have been mid to upper teens when we get up. CHILLY! However it warms up nicely during the day.

Chuck is coming tomorrow to help Hubby do some maintenance repairs on my car. I don’t think I have mentioned it before but please be in prayer for him as he is laid off from his work. We are praying he will get called back soon.

Another Beautiful Sunrise

Hubby and I were drinking our morning cup of coffee together on the glassed in porch and the Lord gave us the beautiful sunrise to enjoy. God is so good! We are still cold here. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20’s with wind chills in the teens. YUCK! I am not ready for temps this cold but the Lord knows what He is doing. Not much else going on here. Just staying warm, working on school and doing normal stuff.
