My Week so Far

Anyone who has been reading my blog for a while knows that my Hubby loved to make things.  I have proof of that inside and outside of my house.  The thing is there is a lot of maintenance that goes along with all the outside furniture.   Monday morning I started on this project.  The new stain color is called chestnut.  I think it looks really nice. The green swing is finished.  We have 3 picnic tables, another swing, the deck and a little stoop area yet to do.

My ever present helper.  She is always by my side when I am out.  She brings me sticks all the time to throw for her just in case I want to play.  See the intent look in her eyes.  She’s ready for me to throw.
While I was working on the stain a friend called and said they had some extra tomatoes if we wanted them.  YAY!  I most certainly did want them.  Ours has provided eating tomatoes but not enough for canning.

We now have 10 pts of salsa, 15 pts of spaghetti sauce and 18 qts of canned tomatoes.   We are very happy.

Homemade soup for supper!

Yesterday I met my uncle Johnny (my dad’s brother)  and his wife Elaine in Christiansburg.   They were on their way through to visit other family.  They live in Michigan.   It was a great visit and I certainly appreciated them taking time out of their traveling for us to get together.

Today’s work is a little uncertain.   Depending on the weather, we will either be pulling corn and putting it up or

Going to a friend’s house to help split some wood he is giving us.  Winter is right around the corner and it takes a lot of wood to heat our lovely old farmhouse.  God is so good to provide in all ways.  Enjoy your day.

Books and a Picnic

Yesterday we went to New River Community College to pick up Julie and Madison’s books for the coming semester.   However we can never resist the opportunity for some fun.   So after we got the books we went to Claytor Lake for a picnic.

It is a very beautiful place.

We had great food.  Chicken on the grill, baked beans, chips, rice krispy treats, and rolls with homemade honey butter.

Quentin did some fishing and Vicki and I walked around some.

It was a really nice day.

God bless.

Thinking of You

Sometimes I really miss you

And I wish you were here with me

But then I remember where you are

And all the glories you now see

I wonder have you talked to Noah

And discussed the building of the Ark?

Have you spoken yet with David ?

You know he was a man after God’s own heart.

Have you spoken to any others

Moses, Joshua or Paul?

Has John told you how it felt

To stand at the foot of the cross?

I think of  all  you could be doing

But I know exactly where you are

You are still walking in the garden

With the One who gave it all.

He’s walking and talking with you

And He’s telling you that you are his own.

This beautiful place that you are in

Is now your forever home.

If I ever had the power

Would I bring you back to Me?

No, no not ever!

Too many glories are now yours to see.

The girls and I had an awesome time watching the eclipse.  I don’t have any pictures that really show it but I do have some really cool cloud pictues.

It started off looking like this and we thought we wouldn’t get to see anything but actually the clouds were a blessing.  We didn’t have any special glasses to look at it with but the clouds actually acted as a filter.

Grace got some really good pictures on her camera.  I will try to post some of hers later.   God bless.

Hello everyone.  I hope you have all had a good week.  Ours was filled with mostly normal things.  Yard work, house work.  Things like that.  I took a few pictures yesterday evening of our sunset.  I thought you might enjoy them too.

The beauty of sunrises and sunsets never cease to amaze me.

God is so good!

Sunflowers

The sunflowers we planted in the garden are doing so good.  They are super tall and have lots of blooms on them.  It is such a pleasure to look up to the garden and see them.

The girls and I made a trip to A C Moore after church yesterday.   It was a fun day.  We looked at lots of fall decorations.  We didn’t get any but they had lots of pretty things.   Grace did buy a bigger set of watercolor pencils that were on sale.

An I bought some yarn for making dishcloths.

I like it.  It is very cheerful.   That’s all for now.  I hope you have a great day.  God bless.

Living Room

Hello everyone.  Just wanted to say our living room is now finished.  YAY!!  MAKES me want to do a happy dance except I might be too tired.

This tv cabinet is one of the reasons I am tired.  I painted it a total of 3 times today. First I painted it gray.  I did not like it.  So I had to put two coats of white on to cover the gray.  Oh well that’s how it goes sometimes. Do you see the pottery on top of the cabinet? Back a few years ago, when I was in college, I took pottery as an elective.  Now I would love to tell you I made those but I did not.  I specialized in stick figures not actual pieces. My teacher made those.  I bought them from him and have enjoyed them ever since.

Well that’s all for now.  I hope you have a great weekend and God bless.

Hello everyone.   We are so excited.  Our beach room (previously known as sitting room) is now finished.  We love it.  I wanted to give a little information on the two chairs that you see in the picture.  I have no idea how old these chairs are.  I’m going to estimate somewhere between 80 to 100 years old.  I know that they were on my grandmother’s porch when I was a young girl.  I can even recall them saying who made them but now I cannot remember who they said it was.  The table is one of the last things George made.  Nice memories.

It feels so good to sit down and relax in this room.  All the YUCKY stuff from the gas logs is gone and it feels so nice and clean.

We will hopefully start the finishing touches on the living room next week.  God bless.

Paint Update

So here are a few more pictures showing the soot damage from the gas logs.

Isn’t it awful.  As long as I kept everything right where it was it wasn’t so obvious how bad it looked.  But when everything came off the walls, it was YUCKY! I just praise God no harm came to the girls from it.

We took everything off the walls in the living room and the sitting room because Steve and Bev came back up today to paint some more.  He got the walls in both rooms painted.  YAY!  This above picture shows the difference.   Believe it or not the original color of the wall was light blue, not that strange color you see above the mantle.

I knew it all looked bad but I guess I just didn’t realize how bad until he started painting.

Just look how beautiful it is now.

I love it!  All we have to do is paint the trim and both rooms are done.  God is so good.
