Friday

Hello everyone!  Today we have beautiful sunshine with temperatures in the low 30’s.  We are going to the Horn’s after school.  I am making  a simple vanilla cake with caramel icing.  I got the recipe from Mrs. Faye at http://theblessedhearth.blogspot.com/  I think it looks really good and can’t wait to try it.

We have a doctor’s appointment on Monday at 9:45 to go over the results of the blood work.  I would appreciate your prayers concerning this.

Well, that’s it.  Just a quick little post.  I have cake to bake.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Wednesday

Hello everyone!  I hope you all are having a good day.  Things are kinda slow here.  Hubby is still sick-YUCK!  He has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.  I would appreciate your prayers for a healing for him.  He does feel better today than he has in 2 weeks.  I can see an improvement every day just not as fast as we would like.

Yesterday another ice storm came through.  Everything was covered with ice.  This morning though all is gone.  YEAH!  We have some sun with temperatures in the upper 30’s.  We are supposed to get more snow come through Thursday and Friday.  I know, though, spring is just around the corner.  The birds are singing so pretty and the air just has a different feel to it.

Not much else going on here.  School, laundry, housework.  You know, just the usual stuff.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Snowball bush

Some of you all might remember this picture from last year.  Last year’s post was titled “Snowball bloom” because it only had one bloom on it.  This year it looks like this.

It has lots and lots of bloom on it.

Today is foggy here.  Very damp.  I was hoping to hang clothes outside on the line to dry but I don’t think that is going to happen.  It is fairly warm though-55 degrees.  We are working on school this morning.  Then I have an appointment to get two tires put on the car and get an inspection sticker.  I guess that will fill up my afternoon.  By the time I get back it will be time for supper.  We are having homemade soup this evening with grilled cheese sandwiches.  I used the remainder of the  pork that I cooked Saturday for the soup.  the girls and I are having chocolate gravy for lunch.  It is one of their favorites.

Well, it is time for me to go check math problems.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Apple Tree

100_9283

Our apple tree is in full bloom.  It certainly looks like we will have lots of apples on it-if the warmer weather holds out with no frost.  Our temperature was 36 degrees this morning.  It has already warmed up to lower 50’s.  As I type, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, clothes are drying on the line.  I truly have a blessed life.  Thank you, Lord!

We will be starting school in a little bit.  After school, I need to go into our little town and get a few things.  Then hopefully get home and get a few things done here.  I want to get our seeds started this week.  Tomorrow, Julie has an eye appointment in C-burg.  This usually is an all day thing.  We want to visit Goodwill while we’re over there.  The girls are hoping to find a few books.  Our Goodwill has an actual used book store in a separate building.  It will be a fun girls day out.

Our back road is full of wild spring flowers.  We see something new blooming every time we travel that way.  Yesterday, the columbine was blooming.  I so enjoy seeing all the spring flowers come to life.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Creeping Phlox

100_9190

I took this picture of creeping phlox last week in Salem when Grace had her eye appointment.  Lots of things have been springing to life around here this week.  I hope to have pictures to show you later in the week.

Yesterday was spent outside.  We got the fence posts in the ground for the new chicken lot, picked up the yard, got some mowing done and worked on a flower bed.  Then it was time to get ready for church.  Our church was having a special singing last night.  The group singing was The Hylton’s.  They were 4 generations of them singing praises to the Lord.  The youngest was about 3 and she sang “Jesus Loves Me.”  It was beautiful.  I can just imagine Jesus listening to her sing and saying oh, how I love these little ones.

Today we have overcast skies with a light drizzle.  The temps have dropped some and the fog is moving in.  I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and God bless.

The Pond

I thought I would show you all a few different views of our pond.  You have seen this view many times.

I took this picture from the tractor road looking toward the house.

We had a little wind yesterday, so I thought I would show you the waves on the pond.  So relaxing.

Today has been very nice here.  Our temperature is mid 60’s with a slight breeze.  We did school and worked on some more apple juice.  Not a lot going on.  Jess had a doctor’s appointment yesterday.  All is going along nicely.  She has to go back Monday(if not before!)  Please continue to pray for her and Katie.  Your prayers are so appreciated.

It is getting time for me to start supper.  Tonight we will be having canned beef with noodles, green beans, corn and pone bread.  Dessert will be fresh made applesauce.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Stack Cake

100_7205

It’s not very often I make two posts in one day, but I thought this was worth sharing.  Tomorrow we will be going down to play with the boys while Jess has another doctor’s appointment.   She asked me if I could make her a stack cake.  This cake goes by different names.  Some call it a stack cake, others a “lassie” cake (molasses).  No matter what you call it, it is GOOD!  In the mountains where I grew up, this cake was common at most all family get-togethers.  It is not as common now, as the art of making them has all but disappeared.  It took me many years of trial and error, but I finally got it.   (I think, anyway.)    These cakes are best eaten the next day.  Most like them with a cold glass of buttermilk.  In Grundy, these sell for $15.00-$20.00 and worth every penny.   The layers are thin and between them is a good amount of homemade applebutter.   Well, I just wanted to show you all my accomplishment for the day.  Just kidding, it didn’t take me all day to make it but it did take a long time to clean up afterward.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

A Lovely Walk

100_6923

Isn’t this a beautiful place to walk?  I love walking in the leaves.

100_6921

Yesterday, the girls and I went down to Jessica’s to play with the boys while she went for her doctor’s appointment.  All is going well, praise God.  Katie is measuring a little  big though and at this time she has turned to the breech position.  We are not sure what will happen with that.  God is in control, this we know.

We are getting ready to go pick plums.  As I mentioned earlier, a couple from church  told us we could come and pick all we wanted.   I will try to get some pictures to show you all.  The tree is very beautiful with all the plums on it.  I’m sure Grace will take lots of pictures.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Hummingbirds

100_6631

The hummingbirds are really enjoying the feeders.  We have this feeder at the old building and another one at the green swing.  I think hummers are so much fun to watch.

Today, Hubby and I decided to put an outside faucet on the side of the new room.  When we built the new room we had to take the old outside faucet off.  Well, plumbing never seems to go as you think it will.  We run the pipe and got everything connected, turned the water back on and amazingly, no leaks.  Then we go outside, turn the faucet on and amazingly, no leaks.  Well, of course, we are patting ourselves on the back now thinking wow, that was easy.  Hubby turns the outside faucet off and guess what-it won’t turn off.  It was a brand new faucet so we’re not sure what was wrong with it.  Of course, we have no cut off valve in our collection of plumbing supplies so we have to shut the water off again, drive 30 minutes to the local hardware, get a cut off valve and a new outside faucet.   When we get home, he put the cut off valve on so we could turn the water back on.  He had to go look at a job possibility so the other faucet will have to wait.  He will have to take  the one that doesn’t work back out of the wall so he can put the other one in.  Hopefully this one will work.

Well, that’s  our day.  Temperatures here today have been wonderful.  Low 80’s.  It is now almost 6:00 p.m. and the temperature is 75 degrees with a great breeze.  Thank you, Lord.  Tomorrow we will be going down to Jessica’s.  She has a doctors appointment.  We will be watching the boys and then going over to David’s mom’s to pick some apples.  Remember last year, she gave us those pink apples.  Well, they are ready to pick.  They make such pretty applesauce.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

Sunset

Monday evening Julie and I were outside letting the chicks run free for a while and this is what we saw.  God is so good to show us glimpses of His glory.

Sorry I did not make a post yesterday.  As you know we went down to Jessica’s on Monday for her ultrasound appointment.  Well, this baby did not cooperate.  He or she decided no one was going to look that day.  All kinds of movement but legs crossed.  They told her they would do one more a little later on.  I guess this is a shy one or stubborn-not sure which.

Yesterday the girls and I went with Hubby to help him work.  He is doing the sheetrock on a remodeling job.  He can do it all by himself except hang ceilings.  That is just too hard to do alone.    The house is in a beautiful location.  If we go back with him another day, I’ll try to remember to take the camera so you all can see some pictures of it.

Today we’ll work on catching up here at home.  How can a house get so dirty when no one is home?    This morning was very chilly here-42 degrees when we got up this morning.  Yesterday was really nice.  Hubby’s van tells the outside temperature and it was 70 degrees when we left the job site yesterday around 3:00.

Enjoy your day and God bless.
