Chair

100_8800

Here’s the chair Hubby has been working on.

100_8801

I’m not too sure about the color though.  It was paint left over from Jessica’s bed so we thought we would use it on this prototype.  What color do you ladies think I should paint them.  I wanted to paint them red but I know it would look terrible in my dining room.   We have a large brick chimney in the room and our floors are mahogany.

Here’s a picture of the brick chimney.

The table I want to use the chairs with (until I talk him into building a new one).  Please let me know your ideas as I am not very good at decorating but I really would like to brighten it up some.

Here is a picture of the color I think I would like.  I have always liked the idea of red chairs.  I’m not sure where this picture came from, maybe Lowes.com.   Well, while I’m at all this table and chair stuff, I might as well show you all the table I think I would like.  Notice all the ‘I think’.

Table (3)

I got this picture from www.soulemama.com  I think it would look good in my dining room, don’t you all.  Well, it’s almost time to get ready for church.  Tonight’s menu is baked spaghetti, slaw, green beans, homemade rolls and dessert.  Dessert is unknown as Mrs. Sally said “I’ll bring some kind of dessert”.  I love surprises!  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Chuck’s Visit

100_8727

Today, Chuck and his family came for a visit.  We had a very nice day.  We ate baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, sweet potato casserole,  homemade rolls and biscuits with peaches for dessert.    He loved his swing.  I am hoping it makes it home safely.  He left with it tied on the top of his Pathfinder.  The kids played with the kitties most of the day.   The other big entertainment was clothes pins.  Children have such imaginations.

Here we all are getting ready to eat.  Julie is hiding behind Chuck.

I pray you all have a wonderful Christmas and God bless.

My Christmas Gift

Hubby has been working on my Christmas gift.  I love it!!!

all folded up.  It will hold lots and lots of clothes.  I will take a picture later of it full of clothes.

He has also been working on Chuck’s gift.  100_8713

A porch swing.  I think it is very pretty.  I really like the two colors together.    Chuck and his family are coming up tomorrow.  I have to get busy today to finish his “goodie basket”.  We will be having ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and homemade rolls.

The Horn’s are coming over this evening.   For supper, we will be having 15 bean soup, rolls and a peppermint cake.  I got the recipe from http://nadinesnook.blogspot.com/2011/12/peppermint-cake.html  I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless.

Remember This

100_6601

You all remember this little dress.  I got it at Goodwill before we even knew what Jess was going to have.  Well, this weekend when we went down for our Christmas get together, Jess had dressed her in it.  She looked darling!

100_8681

It amazes me every time I see her how much she has grown.  The boys were too busy for me to get a picture of them.  Maybe next time.  We had a great visit with lots of good food.

Yesterday I put a deer roast on in the crockpot before we left for church.  Pastor Tom’s message was very good.  He preached from Isaiah 40:3-5.  We had deer roast, french fries, green beans and homemade rolls for “lupper” with homemade candy for dessert.  Then we just chilled for the rest of the day.  Our church was going caroling and giving out fruit baskets last night.  However, Julie is suffering from a head cold, so we did not go.

Well, that’s about it.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Geese

100_8635

Today is a beautiful day here in Floyd.  The sun is shining.  Temperature is 55 degrees.  I LOVE IT!  I know there are lots of people who enjoy winter and cold weather.  I am not one of them.  For my part, it could just stay like this until spring.  I’m pretty sure it won’t though.  We have lots of geese on the pond today.  Probably close to 50.  They seem to be enjoying the warmer temps too.

We have been busy today making treats for Jessica’s “goodie” basket.  So far, we have made chocolate chip cookies and Russian tea cakes.  We still have Martha Washington balls and peanut butter balls to make.  She always wants ritz crackers with peanut butter spread between them, dipped in white chocolate with an m & m on top(I have no idea what this is called but it is one of her favorites).  Tomorrow I will be baking a ham and making homemade rolls.  Other things on the menu (as of right now)-pasta salad, green beans, cocktail weiner, angel punch and sausage balls.

I guess I better get busy-more candy to make.  I love this time of year.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

The Pond

100_8080

I thought I would show you all a few different views of our pond.  You have seen this view many times.

100_8093

I took this picture from the tractor road looking toward the house.

100_8095

We had a little wind yesterday, so I thought I would show you the waves on the pond.  So relaxing.

Today has been very nice here.  Our temperature is mid 60’s with a slight breeze.  We did school and worked on some more apple juice.  Not a lot going on.  Jess had a doctor’s appointment yesterday.  All is going along nicely.  She has to go back Monday(if not before!)  Please continue to pray for her and Katie.  Your prayers are so appreciated.

It is getting time for me to start supper.  Tonight we will be having canned beef with noodles, green beans, corn and pone bread.  Dessert will be fresh made applesauce.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

More Festival Pictures

100_7999

I have so many pictures to share.  Here are a few more from our day at the Festival.

100_7983

Here the horses are grinding the cane into juice for making molasses.

100_7981

The man in charge of making the molasses was very nice.  He took the girls through the entire process step by step.  He even let them have a turn skimming off the foam.

An old baby cradle.

Today we have been busy with school.  I did a batch of apples in the steam juicer.  Washed several loads of laundry.  I have a roast in crockpot for supper.  We will be having potato gravy,  green beans and homemade rolls with it.   Enjoy your day and God bless.

Picnic and Baptism

100_6795

I thought I would share a few pictures with you all of the picnic and baptism we had Sunday.  This is the pond where we do our baptizing.   Beautiful!  This pond is located on Route 8 here in Floyd close to the Bread Basket.

100_6809

This is a young man from our church.  He and his dad were baptized Sunday.  We somehow missed getting the dad’s picture.  I have been busy all last week and yesterday helping Hubby with a job.  He has been remodeling a bathroom.  Today, I picked blackberries, some more green beans and tomatoes while the girls worked on inside house chores.  We will be busy working on those today.  We also have some peaches to can but they may have to wait until tomorrow.

100_6826

Here are a few random pictures I took this morning.  The blackberries are looking pretty good this year.

100_6830

A view of the back side of the house.  Temperature here has cooled down a little.  Not as humid as last week.   Or maybe it just feels that way because I’m not underneath that house running pipe for plumbing. (lol)  Well, I better get busy.  I hear blackberries calling our names.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

New Apron

100_6326

This is a picture of the latest apron I made.  Remember last week, I told you all I was taking the laundry soap and some dishcloths to a local store.  Well, she wanted them to sell and she said she would try to sell my aprons as well.  I hope to take her this one tomorrow.  Wouldn’t it be a blesssing if some of my homemade stuff starting selling?  I hope to use the money I make from selling my stuff to purchase school books for next year.

Today we are having a new soup recipe I got from a blogger friend, who got it from another blog.  I altered the recipe a little to better fit what I had on hand.  The recipe is

Super Easy Crockpot Hamburger Veggie Soup

1lb hamburger (I used london broil leftover from the other night chopped into small pieces)
1 onion, chopped and 1 tbsp. chopped garlic
1 can green beans, drained
1 can corn, drained
1 can diced tomatoes
3 cups water
1 T chicken or beef broth powder
2 T Worcestershire sauce
1 can organic cream of mushroom soup (a brand such as Amy’s, found in health food stores)
Salt and pepper to taste

Brown hamburger and onions until meat is no longer pink and onions are soft. Add to crockpot. Add remaining ingredients, stir. Cook on low for 7 to 8 hours. Serve with some hot homemade dinner rolls for a great meal.  I am hoping to do lots more crockpot meals.  The crockpot doesn’t heat up the house like using the stove does and it is easy (I think).

When I started making this soup, I realized I did not have any cream of mushroom soup.  I went on line and found this easy recipe to make my own.  I found it at CheapCooking.com The recipe is:

Make your Own “Cream of …” Soup

Whether you want to control the chemicals or the fat, making your own white sauce and flavoring it is cheaper and better for you than those canned cream of whatever soups.

  • 2 Tbs butter
  • 2 Tbs flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt (optional)
  • 1 cup milk

In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter. Sprinkle the flour over it and stir to incorporate. Cook over medium low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in the milk.

Cream of chicken

If you want to make a cream of chicken flavored sauce, use half broth and half milk. If you have troubles getting this to be smooth, try heating the milk or broth before adding to the flour and butter. Bring to a simmer and cook over low heat, barely simmering, for a few minutes until thick.

Cheese sauce

To make a cheese sauce, add grated cheese and stir until melted.

Cream of celery or mushroom

To make a cream of some vegetable soup, saute 1/4 cup or so finely chopped celery, mushrooms, or onion in the butter before adding the flour and use half broth and half milk.

I am making cinnamon rolls for dessert so I guess I better get busy.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Baby Emily

This is Baby Emily, David’s neice.  She is a very hardy eater and seemed very content in Daddy’s arms.

And baby Sam held prisoner in his walker.    We all had a lot of fun with lots of good fun.  Jess had ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and banana pudding.  YUM!

Yesterday we went to get the inspection sticker on my car and found out the tie rods ends were bad.  We had to make a run to C-burg to get new ones.   Hubby and his brother put them on yesterday evening.  We went back in this morning and got the inspection sticker.  Hubby still does not have his window fixed on the van.  This has given him much trouble.  He of course is trying to fix the old one instead of buying a new one.  For some reason, the wire is not winding up on the spool correctly.

We are getting rain today.  Temperatures are warm though so it will be very good for everything.  The girls and I checked our seeds out yesterday underneath our greenhouse.  We have a few tomatoes coming up, cucumbers and broccoli.  Very exciting.   Well, our lunch break is over.  Time for school to start.  Enjoy your day and God bless.
