Hello!

I thought I would share with you all a few pictures.  Things are really coming to life here in Floyd.  This is a field not too far from our home.  Look at how green it is!!!

Yesterday, we went to check on a job.  We took a few pictures along the way.

I love goldfinch.  These were certainly enjoying their feeder.

Today is a nice day here in Floyd.  Temperature is 66 degrees.  The sky is overcast though.  Dandelions are popping up all over the place.  I think it is getting close time to make some dandelion jelly.

I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Last Thursday

I thought I would show you all what it looked like here last Thursday.

Can you believe it?  Snow!

8634052159_ef79f5eb3d_z

We ended up with about 3 inches!  Amazing!  It was very beautiful but I am ready for sunshine instead of snow.  By Friday evening, most of it was gone except in some really shady areas.  Saturday we went down to the Farmers Market in Greensboro.   An old friend of ours, Retia, went with us. She had never been to Jess and Dave’s since they bought their home.  We stopped there first.  After coffee and a delicious pound cake Jess had made for us, we were off to the market.  Jess found some beautiful ferns for her front porch and some herbs to plant.  We had a great day with warm temperatures and sunshine.  It was a perfect day for looking around at all the flowers and plants.

We started a new bible study Sunday night at church.  It is called “Experiencing God”.  It is a really good study.  Hubby and I have done it before.  Some in our class have taken it and others have not.  I am looking forward to all the Lord has planned to show us with this study.  Every time I do it, I get something new and different from it.

This week has been absolutely beautiful here in Floyd.  Temperatures in the low 70’s.  I LOVE it!!  Hubby tillered some of the lower garden yesterday.  Today, he is working on building a raised bed.  We have wanted to do raised beds for years.  It just seems to be one of those things we talk about but never get around to doing.  That is changing today.  He already has it built and is working now on filling it with dirt.  We will see how we like using this one and then decide if we want more.

The girls and I are almost finished with school for the day.  All we lack is math.  Then we are going outside to help.  We need to get the upper garden ready for plowing.  It will soon be time to get things in the ground.  I hope to get some cabbage plants, onion sets, spinach seeds and lettuce seeds the next time we go into town.

I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Beautiful Sunrise

8595660852_95aaa44bc1_z

I know I share lots of sunrise pictures with you all but I thought this one was a little different from the others.  I like the way it looks like a flame shooting up.  That is not a trick of the camera.  It actually looked like that.  Our God is amazing!

I am making some more yogurt this morning.  Today, I am trying the stawberry flavoring instead of vanilla.  I’ll try to remember to let you all know how it turns out.  We are still cold with flurries but I think it is supposed to be warmer by the weekend.

Supper tonight is crispy fried fish, oven roasted asparagus and rice.  I guess it will really be lupper instead of supper.  We plan on going to C-burg after we eat.  Sally’s Beauty Supply has conditioner on sale in the gallon container.  We want to pick up one of those and a few other things.

I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

More Snow Pictures

I thought I would show you all a few more snow pictures.  This picture is of our road.

Icicles hanging from the front porch.  I love the blue of the sky!

Floyd is full of old barns.

Papa Goose standing guard.  Mama Goose is already nesting!  Hopefully, we will soon have lots of goslings swimming around.  We are not sure of Mama Duck is nesting or not. I guess time will tell.

I am trying a new recipe for hamburger buns.  I got the recipe from here.  http://penniesandpancakes.blogspot.ca/  I’ll let you all know how they turn out.  I am making them using all whole wheat flour.  I’m not sure how that will go over with everyone. I usually do half whole wheat and half all purpose but I am hoping to move us over to more all whole wheat.  We are having hamburgers (on the homemade buns), french fries and cole slaw for supper.

I also wanted to tell you all how much we like the new yogurt recipe I have been making.  I have the recipe here vanilla yogurt.  I am making another batch today for us and will be making one tomorrow to take down to Jessica when we go.  This yogurt is kinda sweet and flavored.  It is delicious served with fresh fruit.  We like that much better than plain yogurt.  I think I will substitute strawberry flavoring for the vanilla next time and see how that turns out.

Well, time for lunch.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Winter Wonderland

8589405490_3f5c9b69f3_z

I thought I would share a few pictures of what it looks like here in Floyd.  Maybe I shouldn’t say Floyd because from what I can understand not everywhere in Floyd looks like this.  Some areas only got ice but we have snow on top of the ice.

Yesterday was spent not doing much of anything.  Just chilling out, reading, playing games.  Just a fun relaxing day.  Watching it snow.

8589407314_9f8cfd8767_z

It is very beautiful, however, I do believe I am ready for warmer temperatures (I think I have said that before!)  Next week, we are supposed to warm up considerably.

My hero!  The first thing he does after a snow is to clear the vehicles and the walkway-just in case we want to get out.  Thanks, babe!  I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless.

Winter Isn’t Finished Yet

8584985991_7d6e9a35b7_z

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a nice week.  Ours seemed to go by quickly which is not unusual for us.  No church today due to bad weather.  This picture shows what it looked like about 20 minutes ago.  Now it has changed from sleet to snow and is really peppering down.   Thursday morning our temperature was 13 with a wind chill of 6 degrees.  Wow, that feels more like January than March.  I am hoping though that when April comes in it will feel like spring.  I am definitely ready for spring temps.  The girls were supposed to play their Easter specials today.  I suppose they will have to wait until the Sunday after Easter now to play them as we always spend Easter down at Dave and Jessica’s.  It is SO much warmer at her house than it is here.

I hope you all have a great Sunday and God bless.

Snow

We are experiencing typical March weather.  One minute snow the next minute sun.

8554454631_e37994fefc_z

Very pretty to look at, however it is already almost all gone.  I did want to tell you all that yesterday I made chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles.  At first, I was very hesitant as I have never made noodles before.  These were very easy to make and everyone (to my surprise) loved them.  I will definitely be making them again.  I got the recipe from a new to me blog-penniesandpancakes.blogspot.  I have made several of her recipes this week and have been impressed with all of them.  Definitely keepers!

Well, I better get busy.  We are trying a new recipe out tonight.  It must be my week for new recipes.  Do any of you get the magazine Kraft Food & Family?  It comes out every 3 months. My spring copy came in the mail yesterday.   My darling daughter, Jess, gets herself and me a subscription.  Thanks Jess!  I really love the magazine.  It is full of easy, good recipes.  Tonights new recipe comes from this magazine.  It is called spaghetti with shrimp and broccoli.  I’ll let you all know how it turns out.

Update on how it turned out-DELICIOUS!  Another keeper.

Enjoy your day and God bless.

An Unusual Visitor

8541195283_40e04559e2_z

Hello ladies!  I just wanted to thank all of you for your prayers.  The visit at the doctor today went well.  The doctor is treating him for a kidney infection which she thinks is definitely part of his problem.  She also wants him to come back in 3 weeks for more blood work.  There is a possibility he is a diabetic.  Thank you all again for your prayers.

I also wanted to show you these pictures of a visitor we had at the pond the other day.  Our pond has been seeing LOTS of activity.  The morning this guy came in we had about 60 geese and several ducks there.  They are lots of fun to watch.

I have no idea what type of goose this is, maybe he is a domestic breed.  I don’t know but he sure did stick out from the rest.   We also had a visit from these quys.

There were 2 males and one female.  The males were so aggressive.  They fought most of the day.  I’m not sure which one ended up being the victor but today when the ducks came back there was only one male and one female.  I guess one of the males finally gave up.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening and God bless.

Wintry Mix

8498025024_dab947dcaa_z

We awoke this morning to a wintry mix.

8496922519_90e9686e9d_z

Not a lot going on here this week.  Grace has had a little sore throat and congestion going on this week.  Hubby has been dealing with something going on with his tummy.  Not exactly sure what.  I think a trip to the doctor might help but he thinks for sure (today) that he is doing better.  We’ll see.

8496923141_edce2eaf95_z

Yesterday, Julie and I went to C-burg while Grace and Hubby stayed home.  I was hoping to find a few twin size flat sheets at Goodwill to use as the backing for the quilts I’m working on.  I did find one but I don’t think it will be for Sam’s quilt but hopefully it will work for one of the other ones.  We picked up a few things at Wal-Mart, paid a few bills and came on home.  I’m glad we got all that done yesterday before the storm hit.  We also downloaded sheet music for Julie.  The song is titled Hope’s Song by Rebecca St. James.  She wants to play and sing this song at church for Easter.  She’ll have to work pretty hard on it though as Easter is just around the corner.

100_3057

Julie and I spotted a few of these colts foot blooming yesterday.  I took this picture from an older post of mine as we did not have the camera with us yesterday.  It is always so exciting when we see these starting to bloom.  They are (to my knowledge) our first wild flowers to bloom in spring.  YEAH!

Well, I guess that’s about it.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Spring

8482292063_2b673dd634_z

Friday these beautiful red winged blackbirds stopped by our feeders for a little snack.  They are usually the first birds to return in the spring.  They are a week earlier this year than last year.  Hopefully, that means an early spring.   However, this morning was no indication that spring is on its way.  Wind chill temperature -10 degrees with snow on the ground.  Well, the snow is gone now and the wind chill now is 5 degrees so we are warming up some.

Not much going on here.  I have started work on Sam’s quilt.  I have all the 5 x 5 in. squares cut out and am ready to start sewing them together.  School has went well this week.   Did I mention to you all about the last batch of homemade laundry soap I made using the laundry bar soap instead of fels naptha?  Well, those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that in the past I have had trouble with the homemade laundry soap.  My clothes seem to get a dingy look and the towels became really non-absorbent.  I know, strange stuff, but strange happens a lot here.  I guess it is our water that causes these problems.  Well, so far I have had no problems using this batch.  It is a little bit different recipe than I have tried before but I think the real difference is using homemade laundry bar soap.  I will try to remember to keep you all updating as to how it is doing.

Well, I better get busy.  Church tonight and the menu is baked potato bar.  Sounds delicious to me.  I really like baked potatoes.  Enjoy your Sunday and God bless.
