Kielbasa with Cabbage and Noodles

I found this recipe at Johnsonville Sausage.  I altered it a little to fit our taste.

5 cups cabbage,-chopped, 1 onion-diced, 1/4 cup butter, 1 package kielbasa chopped, small amount of jalapena pepper-chopped, 1 clove garlic-minced, 1 cup sliced mushrooms,  4 cups egg noodles cooked according to package directions.    In a large skillet saute cabbage, onion, pepper and garlic.   Add the kielbasa, noodles, salt and pepper.  Cook until heated through.

Old Things

I am a keeper of old things.    This canister set belonged to my mom.   It is the only set I can remember her owning.  I love them.  When I open the lid to get flour, sugar, or whatever I am getting, it gives me much pleasure  to know she used it before me.  I have my mom’s cast iron skillet, my grandmother’s bread bowl and many more things that have been handed down.  They don’t have to have belonged in the family.  I just like old things.  I am always on the lookout at thrift stores or yard sales for things with character (older).

Today has been windy and fairly chilly here in Floyd.  Without the wind, it would have been kinda nice.  We have sunshine and that is always good.  We did school as usual.  I did two loads of laundry.  One is drying on the front porch.  I don’t like to hang clothes on the line when we have a fire.  It always makes the clothes smell like smoke.  The other load I will put on the drying rack tonight and it will be dry in the morning.  I really enjoy using it.

Time for me to get busy cooking supper.  We are trying a new recipe tonight.  I’ll let you all know if it is a keeper.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Snow

We have snow here in Floyd.  The girls are very happy.   It was not a lot of snow but hopefully enough for snow cream later today.

I worked on aprons most of the day yesterday.  I made 4 little aprons and 2 adult size.  I made the adult one a little different and was able to get one child size and one adult size from one pillowcase.

I made the back much shorter.  It just comes over the shoulder and that gave me enough extra material for the small waist apron.

This one has a child one to match.  I didn’t take a picture of it because I didn’t get it completely finished yesterday.  I ran out of the white binding.

I was prowling around in the trunk where we store extra material the other day and found this veggie tales material.  There was not a lot of it but enough to make these two little aprons.  I think they are very cute.    Anyway, that was my day yesterday.  I wanted to make a few different styles of aprons to kinda get an idea for what sells the best.

I cooked a deer roast on the wood stove yesterday for supper.  We had baked potatoes,  home canned green beans, fresh homemade rolls and home canned applesauce for supper.  It was very good.  I think today I will shred the deer roast and have deer bbq and fries.  I already have buns baking as I type this.  I made a buttermilk chocolate cake the other day so that will be our dessert.  It all sounds pretty easy.  There was not church today because of the snow so I think today is a take it easy kind of day.  I will leave you all with one more snow picture.

Thursday

100_8806

Hello everyone.  It has been a busy week here in Floyd.  David is gone to a conference in Vegas so Monday evening we went down to help Jess with the kids for a few days.  We also had some electrical work Hubby and I needed to do for her.  We finished most of it up on Tuesday.  Wednesday morning, Hubby put a dimmer switch on her lights in the living room.  We then left to come home.

David is having a great time in Vegas.  He gave a speech the other night at the conference.   He said he spoke to about 22,ooo people.   Amazing.  We are all very proud of him.

Today was school as usual.  We had planned on going over to the Horn’s this evening but Vicki is sick.  Please pray for her.  She thinks she has a stomach virus.  It has been very rough on her.  I called today at lunch and Quentin said she wasn’t any better yet.  She is never sick.  Hubby has been working on cutting out the material for our chairs.  I so appreciate all your advice on what color to paint them.  I still haven’t completely decided yet but I have a while before he will be at that stage.   I am thinking of going with the dark brown and putting chair cushions in them.  That way I can change them whenever I want and today I happened to think “Wow, I could make a tablecloth for  the table to match the cushions”  Maybe I’ll go that route.

I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Chair

Here’s the chair Hubby has been working on.

I’m not too sure about the color though.  It was paint left over from Jessica’s bed so we thought we would use it on this prototype.  What color do you ladies think I should paint them.  I wanted to paint them red but I know it would look terrible in my dining room.   We have a large brick chimney in the room and our floors are mahogany.

Here’s a picture of the brick chimney.

The floor.

The table I want to use the chairs with (until I talk him into building a new one).  Please let me know your ideas as I am not very good at decorating but I really would like to brighten it up some.

Here is a picture of the color I think I would like.  I have always liked the idea of red chairs.  I’m not sure where this picture came from, maybe Lowes.com.   Well, while I’m at all this table and chair stuff, I might as well show you all the table I think I would like.  Notice all the ‘I think’.

Table (3)

I got this picture from www.soulemama.com  I think it would look good in my dining room, don’t you all.  Well, it’s almost time to get ready for church.  Tonight’s menu is baked spaghetti, slaw, green beans, homemade rolls and dessert.  Dessert is unknown as Mrs. Sally said “I’ll bring some kind of dessert”.  I love surprises!  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

What I’ve Been Up To

100_8792

I thought I would show you all the aprons I have made up so far.  This one is made from an old pillowcase.

100_8791

The rest of these are just from material I had on hand.

100_8790

I’ve been working on making some waist aprons.

100_8789

I think I like making them.  Something different for me anyway.

100_8787

This is next to the last one.  It has a little girl apron that matches it.

100_8788

Ain’t it cute?   I think I would like to make more of the matching mother/daughter aprons.  It was fun.   Well, that’s all for now.    Hubby is painting the first chair as I am typing this,  so hopefully,  I’ll be posting a picture of it tomorrow.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Jess and Sam

We have had a BEAUTIFUL day here in Floyd.  The temperature right now is 60 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!!  I absolutely love it.  The girls and I worked on cleaning the house this morning, then we started on school.  Hubby is working on a chair design for us.  He made our kitchen table several years ago and he made benches to go with it.  Well, you know how we women are, now I want chairs instead of benches.

After he worked some on the chair, he decided to cut wood.  He went up on the hill and cut wood while we finished school.  Then we all worked together splitting the wood and stacking it.  It was a great day for outside work.  My menu plan for tonight has changed.  I had planned on meatloaf, fried potatoes and pinto beans but it is a little too late to do meatloaf.  Hubby said he would like hotdogs so we are having hotdogs and pintos.  Tomorrow we will have the meatloaf.

I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Miss Katie

100_8760

We took this picture of Katie Sunday when they came for a visit.  She really is growing and seems to be a very content little lady.  You all remember how I said it was cold here Monday.  Well, Tuesday morning it was 10 degrees with the wind chill below zero.  Our water froze in the bathroom and the new laundry room.  A little disappointing as Hubby thought he had it fixed so it would not freeze.  I tell you all, when the wind blows hard like that it can find the tiniest little hole to get in and freeze pipes.  Anyway, he thawed out the water and insulated more around the pipes, so hopefuly it is fixed now.  Wednesday morning was cold too.  Temperature was 10 degrees again but not near as much wind so it didn’t feel as cold.  Our hard working wood stove is very much appreciated.  Today however has been very nice-low 40’s.   Thank you, Lord.

Well, I guess that’s about all the excitement we have had going on here.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Monday

Today has been chilly here in Floyd.  Wind gusts of 30-40 mph with temperatures in the mid 20’s.  We let our chickens out every evening so they can scratch and peck.  Well, this evening they just wanted to come up on the back porch and hide from the wind.  We all laughed and said soon they would be wanting to come in the house.

Other than cold, today has been a nice day.  We started school back today.  After a 3 week break, I thought it would be difficult to get going again but it went well.  We had a nice visit with Jess and the kids yesterday.  David needed to work on his book and so Jess brought the kids up to play at MawMaw’s house for a while.  We were sitting around talking and Daniel looks at me and says “MawMaw, we need to go cook something”.  He dearly loves to help cook so we decided we needed to make chocolate chips cookies.

Well, I guess that’s about it.  I need to go put more wood on the fire.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.
