Before and After

Hubby is almost finished with the farmhouse he has been working on.  I thought I would show you all a few before and after pictures.  Here is a picture of the stairway before.

Okay, so this area still looks really cluttered but I am hoping you can see the floors enough to tell how nice they look.

Of course, being an old farmhouse, none of the bedrooms had closets.  He built closets in all three bedrooms.

Last is the bathroom.  I could not find my before picture of it but this is the after.

The house is so DRAMTICALLY changed.  It really looks like a new house inside, which I guess in a way it is.  Everything was torn out except the outside walls.  He did a great job. It was such a blessing to get this house remodel.  Thank you, Lord! (Oh, by the way Lord, another one like this sure would be great!).

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.  We went down to Dave and Jessica’s.  It was a good day, full of good food and lots of grandbaby time.  God sure is good to me.

We are warm here-low 50’s- with lots of sunshine.  A beautiful day.  Another blessing from the Lord.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Wednesday

Hi everyone.  I’m sorry about no pictures lately but I have been having trouble with my computer.  Hopefully all is fixed now.  Saturday, Dave, Jess and kids came up for a visit.  Dave and Hubby went to Pastor Tom’s shoot.  They had a great time.  Then on Saturday afternoon, Chuck and his kids came over too.  I was one happy mawmaw.  All my grandbabies here at one time.  I hope this becomes a habit.  We all went to cut wood.  I so wish I had taken my camera.  It was so cute seeing them all carrying wood to load in the truck.  Everyone went.  We even had Katie and Sam in the stroller, which did not make Sam happy.  He kept saying, “I wanna help PawPaw too.”  We thought Sam might be a little too much “help.”

We had a great supper of pork, pintos, mashed potatoes, rolls, peaches and pears.  After cutting, loading and unloading two truck loads of wood, everyone was hungry.  As they were leaving, I gave them all an apple for the road.  Alexius was getting in the car and got her finger shut in the car door.  Chuck asked her how she managed to do that and she said, “I was trying to hold my apple and I wanted to give MawMaw another hug”.  I felt so sorry for her.

I have been helping Hubby all this week with a bathroom remodel.  We finished it today.  Tomorrow, he will start installing the cabinets at the old farmhouse he has been working on.  We plan on going with the Horn’s this Saturday to Grayson Highlands for their fall festival.  We are looking forward to it.  It sounds like lots of fun.  Well, I think that’s about all that is happening around here.  I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Saturday

Hello ladies!!  I know it has been a while since I made a post but I have been having technical difficulties with my blog.  My thanks to Dave for getting me back up and running.    I’m still having trouble with my pictures  so no picture today.(Picture Added – Dave)  Well, we have been busy here this week.   Monday, I helped Hubby at the farmhouse.  He started on the plumbing this week.   Under the bathroom, the crawl space is about 18 inches.  As you can imagine, not my favorite place to work but someone has to do it.  Then on Tuesday, the girls and I went down to Jessica’s.  They all have been sick, even little Miss Katie.  Hopefully, though, they are finally on the mend.  Wednesday, I helped Hubby again.  Difficulties with the plumbing caused us to decide to finish it up Monday. (Didn’t hurt my feelings any).  I’m sorry, I guess I am complaining a little but of all the jobs I help him with, plumbing is my least favorite.  Thursday and Friday, the girls and I stayed home and worked on things here.

Well, that’s about all for our week.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Garden

100_9928

I thought I would share with you all a picture of the lower garden.  It is doing pretty good.  The upper garden is having a little more of a difficult time.  We are having trouble keeping the calves out of it.  They seem to find new ways to get out every day and seem to enjoy the corn in the upper garden very much.  Shadow is getting too old to chase them and Jasper is just learning.  He is on the accelerated learning program right now as I want him to learn quickly.  He actually is getting much better.  He “sometimes” listens and obeys commands.  Sometimes he is just so happy that the calves are running from him, he doesn’t care where they are running.  Oh well, that’s life on a farm.

I helped Hubby today at the farmhouse job.  We thought we would start on running the pipes for the plumbing.  However, the walls in the bathroom were in terrible shape, so we started tearing out the sheetrock in there.  We will be running the pipes up and over the ceiling as there is not enough crawl space underneath.   These older homes were built right down on the ground.  The bathroom has a rock type flooring on it and the owners are wanting to keep it.  This suits me just fine as I was not looking forward to trying to crawl under that floor.   The girls worked on history and science while I was helping Hubby.    We had brought our portable grill with us and did  a picnic for lunch.  We had hot dogs, potato chips and oreo’s.  The lunch of champions.  It was fun.  We set up under a huge walnut tree and were entertained by a very friendly squirrel while we ate.  I brought the girls home after lunch.  They did the house chores while I went back to help Hubby.  It was a full day.

I hope you all have a great evening and God bless.

Goslings

100_9548

I thought I would show you all how big these goslings are.  It always amazes me how fast they grow.  They are however ravenous eaters.  We also have ducklings (we think).  She hatched them off and took them up into the field.  We have not seen them since.  Mama  and Papa Duck are still around though so we are confident the ducklings are too.  Mama is just keeping them well hidden.

I forgot to mention in yesterdays post about the chick house, all the planks and the door are from the old farmhouse we are working on.  He said we could have all the old wood.  We have been thinking of ways to reuse it.  I think some of it will go to box in the remainder of our back porch.  Today is a nice day here in Floyd.  Temperature is 66 degrees.  We have had some sun but it is overcast now and I think rain is coming.

Tonights menu at church is kraut and weiners, pinto beans, cornbread, cole slaw and strawberry rhubarb pie. (Thats just what I know about).  For a class of 10-12 people, we sure do eat good.   Time for me to start getting everything ready.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

More Farm Pictures

This is a far off picture of the graveyard that is on the farm.  This picture was taken from the top of our driveway.

This is a closer shot.  Right beside the graveyard is a hay barn.

100_5358

I’m sure Jess will recognize this picture.  On the left of this picture at the bottom of the hill is an old farmhouse.  Dave and Jess lived there for several years before they moved to N.C.

Today will be school as usual, though we have not gotten our early start.  We are running a little behind as Hubby and I did not wake up as early as usual.   Saturday, we worked on cleaning up an area where we used to have the swimming pool.  This was a major job which required almost 5 hrs. to finish.  We had the back of the truck completely full of trash to haul to the dumpster.   We had to cut the pool liner in pieces.  It was too heavy to move in one solid piece.  We kept the parts of the pool we thought we might could reuse.  We were all muddy from head to toe, including the “bumpy truck”.  But I am so glad to get this job done.  Vicki and Quintin are giving us some strawberry plants and we plan on putting them in that space.

Yesterday’s menu at church was pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, beef strogonoff, key lime pie and cookies.  We started our new study on Galatians.  I think it will be a very good study.   I better get busy or school will be starting really late.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Our First Fire

100_4454

Okay, so it finally got cold enough to build a fire.  The temperature inside the house was 61 and I decided we really did need a fire.  This stove may look small but it is a real workhorse.  It heats our old farmhouse, keeps us toasty warm.  We do use the gas logs some when it gets really cold but most of the heat comes from this little stove.  It even keeps the upstairs warm.  We are very blessed to have it.  A few years back,  Hubby and I traded some electrical work for this stove.  I think we made a good bargain.

We had to make a run down to Jessica’s today.  She has been sick over the weekend with strep and thought the boys might be getting it too.  Praise the Lord, Daniel just has an ear infection, which is bad but not as bad as strep.  Sam seemed to be okay, just congested.   We had a good visit anyway and she made some awesome chicken noodle soup for lunch.

Well, I think I will relax and enjoy the coziness of our fire.  Enjoy your evening and God bless.

Leaves Everywhere

100_2225

This picture was taken the other day when we went on our hike.  Absolutely beautiful.  Leaves were everywhere.  They sounded so nice when we walked on them.  Of course the batteries died in the camera before I got any other shots but this one is nice.  On our hike we spotted a baby possum walking on a log.  This would have been a great picture but the camera hung useless around my neck because we didn’t think to take extra batteries with us.   Oh well, life goes on.  We had a great hike and enjoyed outside time.  Today is overcast and slightly chilly.  Just enough to need a fire.  George and a friend of ours from church cut wood yesterday afternoon.  We heat this old farmhouse with wood and it takes a LOT of wood.  If the rain holds off we will be splitting and stacking the wood this evening.  Always work to do.  Speaking of work, lunch break is over and time for school.  Gotta go.  God Bless.
