Colts Foot

I took these pictures about 2 weeks ago.  Believe it or not, everything is covered with snow here right now.  Our temperature is 15 degrees with a wind chill of zero.  Our winds are about 20-25 mph.  3 inches of snow fell yesterday.   Definitely winter weather.

But I know this won’t last much longer.  Spring is just around the corner.  You can feel the difference in the air.  Well, maybe not today but other days you can feel the difference.

Saturday we went down to Jessica’s.  We planted some onion sets, lettuces and cabbage for her.  That was a lot of fun.  At least, I got to get my hands in the dirt.  Maybe next week, we will work on getting one of our raised beds ready for early crop plants.  I want to plant peas, onions, cabbage, lettuce, radishes, and beets.  Makes my mouth water just thinking about all that fresh food.  I love it!!

Well, that’s about it-not much going on!  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Just a few pictures to show you all what it looks like here in Floyd.

As I said yesterday, first we had snow then sleet.

Everything is completely covered.

For the first time since I started taking bread to R G Cattle, I think today is just too bad for me to get out to deliver it.

I guess we’ll just do school and have a cozy day snuggled in.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Katie

I took these pictures of Katie a little while back when we were down there visiting.  Ain’t she just the cutest thing?

Do you see her painters tape bracelet?  That girl is all into her some fashion!!

Today we have snow, then sleet on top of the snow.  We were looking forward to going to the Horns today but we have had to postpone because of the weather.  You would think by the middle of March bad weather wouldn’t be an issue but the Lord knows what He is doing.

School  is going along nicely.  We finished language and have started literature in its place. The girls are kinda excited about that.  I think we needed a break from grammar.

I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Sunday

Hello everyone!  Definitely long time-no post.  Not sure why it has been so long.  I would say I have been busy but then we are always busy.  I guess I am in a blogging slump!  I just can’t seem to think of anything to say (I know, imagine that huh!!)  Well, anyway, today is beautiful here.  Our temperature is 55 degrees and we have lots of sunshine.  We had snow Friday about 3 in. but it is all gone now.  YEAH!  I am so done with snow and cold weather.  I am ready for picnics and hiking and fun stuff like that.

As I said I am in a blogging slump.  Sitting here typing and I just can’t come up with much to write about.  We are enjoying our new pastor.  He really has some interesting messages-gets us to really thinking about things.  School is going well.  We finished history this week, now to double up on science and get it done.

I guess I better get started on my Sunday night bible study lesson.  I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

Free At Last!

12590619324_c68d9af76b_z

Hello everyone!  Guess what??  Come on, guess!  Yes, we are finally free.   Thanks so much to the ones who worked so hard to clear our road.  I didn’t even know Floyd had a snow blower but this guy came thru on Saturday and then again on Sunday.  At that point, the road was still pretty rough.  Last night about midnight, the road grater came through. He kept trying to get up the hill but couldn’t make it all the way.  No one lives up above us anyway so it’s not a big issue.

This picture was taken at the top of the driveway.  See the road is clear, well, maybe not clear but passable.

Hubby took us down to the milk barn to get milk.  It’s amazing how much you miss having milk.  Today made 7 days since we had been out!  Well six days for me as I took the bread to R G Cattle on Tuesday of last week.  I don’t know if just going down to the milk barn really counts as getting out but it sure did feel good.

Hubby took this picture the other morning as the moon was going down over the hill.  I thought it was very pretty.

Time for school to start for us.  I hope you have a great day and God bless.

More Snow Pictures

12540847744_cc2ee55e84_z

Our snow has finally stopped (I hope)!  We ended up with about 22 in with drifts much more than that.  I think someone said the official report for Floyd was 30 in but I’m not for sure on that.

12540835824_1d29327671_z

Anyway, it is definitely beautiful and we have eaten all the snow cream we want.  Time for spring now!

12540824554_bb4124ae55_z

So after showing you a few of the beautiful snow pictures I thought I would show you the down side of all that snow.  This is the hill going up the main road at our house.  As you can see, nothing has traveled it except the tractor.

12540044495_134859c30c_z

This is the main road going down from our house.  These pictures were taken late yesterday.  As you can see, we are definitely stranded here.  Thank God we are people who are comfortable being at home or we might be going a little crazy by now.  If you look closely you can see where the road should  be.  These drifts are too deep for the tractor so I guess we’ll be waiting on the state to come and clear them.  It is a state maintained road so they will come eventually.

This is the road.  This is going down toward the milk barn.

The graveyard at the top of the hill.

My girls having fun.

12540847744_cc2ee55e84_z

I will leave you with another beautiful picture.  If you look closely to the left of the hay barn you can see our house where we are snuggled in with a warm fire, hot chocolate and a good book.  Enjoy your day and God bless.

Snow

12504475004_20a74f3772_z

We are definitely getting some serious snow here in Floyd.  This morning we had 14 inches and it has been coming down hard all day.

12504461404_8168bc56ac_z

We probably have another 3-4 inches accumulation today.

12504094883_d7b292a89c_z

It is SO pretty!!!

12503950715_73e317519c_z

Hubby went out this morning and emptied the snow out of the bird feeders.  He gave them some fresh bird feed and they have been happy all day!

12503937655_c445806614_z

We made snow cream last night for supper and will be making more this afternoon. I love days like this.  Snuggle in and watch it snow!  I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless.

Homemade Bread Crumbs

12387377183_197ec6aa88_z

Okay, so I realize sometimes I am a little late to the party.  Most of you have probably been doing this for years but I am just now starting to make my own bread crumbs.  For one thing, bread crumbs is not something I use very often so it just seemed easier to buy them from the store.  About the only thing I use them for is salmon cakes.  Salmon cakes are a favorite here.  Many, many thanks to my friend, Retia, for sharing her salmon with us last fall.  You can read about canning the salmon on this post if you are interested https://merryheartcrafts.com/2013/10/08/canning-salmon  Okay so back to making bread crumbs.  I found this recipe on line at food network.  It is Alton Brown’s recipe for Homemade Italian Bread Crumb.  I will now join the thousands of women who make their own bread crumbs.  So easy and my house smells wonderful.

Enjoy your day and God bless.
