  • Spring Clean up

    Spring Clean up

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a good week.  Here are a few pictures and updates since my last post. Weather has been really nice here after the ice storm so we’ve been doing a little outside work. One of the first things I did was get the arched trellis back in order. It will definitely have to have a new cover this spring but this one will do until I get a new one.

Next we did some work on the grapevine

It was in need of a good trim

    It looks so much better!

Another place we are working on is the forsythia area. It has been years since we trimmed this area. As you can tell, it is extremely overgrown.

It is looking much better but not finished yet. I’m very excited about getting this little area cleaned up and looking good.

I found a new to me cucumber variety to try this year. I thought it looked very cool. We’ll see.

    Grace’s latest painting and…

    First coltsfoot sighting!

Special sunrise this morning! Today makes 7 years since my sweet Julie went to heaven. It is a hard day for me. However, the sunrise reminds God is always there!

I hope you all have a blessed day!

  • Storm Harlow

    Storm Harlow

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you all are having a good day. Last week was very interesting here. First we got about 4 inches of snow which was quickly covered with a thick layer of ice. It was definitely a mess.

Many tree limbs are down in our yard.

There are quite a few more but I didn’t get any more pictures of them.

Major damage though from all the downed trees. Our power went off Wednesday morning and didn’t come back on until Sunday evening.  We were definitely ready for it to come back on.

We have a generator though and Grace and I were able to get it started so we didn’t lose any of the food in the freezers. We cooked our meals on the wood stove and used the water from the rain barrels to flush the commode. All in all, not too bad but definitely makes for lots more work without electricity. So many people have it much harder than we do when the power is out.

I think I read that about 80% of the county was without power. Some areas are still without it. Many surrounding counties were hit with this storm as well. Another storm is supposed to be coming in on Wednesday but it is just snow(hopefully).

However, God always has beauty to show us!

    God bless!

  • Cleaning Around the Rose Bush

    Cleaning Around the Rose Bush

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a nice day. It is a beautiful day here in Floyd.  Temperature is in the upper 40’s. A great day for working outside.  Our rosebush was in desperate need of being cleaned. It had not been trimmed in years.

Also raspberries vines had taken over but unfortunately not producing hardly anything so they needed to be cut back as well. Now to get it all raked up and put in the brush pile!

As usual, though, I forgot to get a before picture but trust me when I say it looks a lot better.

Cleaned up the firepit and got it ready to (hopefully) use soon.
Also did some rearranging on the deck. We have to move the trough off the deck. It needs some work done to it. The wood is rotten and it is falling apart.

I very seldom take pictures of myself but here I am, red cheeked from working outside.  I love this time of year.

    God bless!

  • My Week

    My Week

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a good week.  I thought I would share a little of my week with y’all.  Jess and the older kids were busy doing a little bowling with some of their friends so JL and I had a little Mawmaw day. First we went to McDonalds.  He loves to go in and eat.

Then we came back to the farm. He played a video game with Grace and then it was time to take Grace to work. We just hung out at his house after that until Jess and the kids got back. It was a fun day.

This is Grace’s latest painting.  I absolutely love it.❤

We had a fun little trip with Daniel to pick out his colors for his poncho. These are the colors he picked.

I have already started it. I think it looks really good.

I guess that’s about all. I hope you have a great day.

    God bless!

  • A Little Garden Work

    A Little Garden Work

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are all having a great day. It is a really nice day here. Our temperature is about 60°.  We do still have some ice and snow in the shady areas but almost all of it is gone. I did a little garden work this morning.  I cleaned out the carrot bed and as you can see I have helpers. Cows are such curious creatures.

Next I worked on the bed where I plant early peas. I need to remove that big clump of weed but I didn’t have my digger thing with me so I will have to do that later.

Next I worked on the asparagus bed. It is always a challenge!

It looks so much better!! I can almost taste that fresh asparagus. We love asparagus, especially on the Blackstone grill Dave and Jess got us. If any of you ever get the opportunity to get yourself a Blackstone grill, I highly recommend it!

This is the brush pile. All this came from the asparagus bed. Amazing!

I also think it might be time for me to invest in some new garden gloves😀

    God bless!

  • Sam’s Poncho and a Biscuit Recipe

Sam’s Poncho and a Biscuit Recipe

Good morning everyone! So I finished Sam’s poncho. He loves it! I also had enough yarn to make him a hat to match but I don’t have a picture of it. Daniel has decided he wants one too!❤  We will be going to Joann’s soon to pick out his yarn. I love it when family members request for me to make them something.

https://aflavorjournal.com/small-batch-homemade-biscuits/  I made this biscuit recipe this morning.  It was really good. Makes 5 small biscuits which is perfect for us.

Grace had her first day of classes for this semester Wednesday.  All went well. After class we went to Michael’s and got the art supplies that she needed. She is taking painting, biology and psychology.

I guess that’s all for now. God bless!❤

  • Grace’s Apron

    Grace’s Apron

    Hello everyone!

I spent some time yesterday making this apron for Grace to use in her upcoming painting class. She ask if I would make her one to protect her clothes from paint.

    https://cosmopolitancornbread.com/farmhouse-apron/

This is my favorite apron pattern. It is so easy to make and the lady’s instructions on how to make it are excellent.  She also has a video on how to make it as well.

Grace really likes it and I think it looks good on her.

    God bless!

  • Electric Canner Update

    Electric Canner Update

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with all of you. We are good here. Still cold though. Last nights feels like temperature was -3 when I got up but it is supposed to warm up this coming weekend.

I wanted to give an update on the electric canner. I purchased this canner in July 2023(approximately). I absolutely LOVE it. It makes canning (for me) so much easier. I no longer need to can massive amounts so this canner is perfect for us. It holds 5 qts and 8 pints. It is extremely easy to operate.  I don’t have to babysit it like I would stove top canners. It was expensive but in my opinion definitely worth it. I have 4 pints jars of stock canning now as I make this post.

I wanted to share this trellis I saw on a show the other day. I really like this and am thinking about maybe making one or more for the garden.  We’ll see how time goes.

I guess that is all for now. God bless!

  • Snow

    Snow
Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been having a good week. It has been really cold here this week. We first got snow, then ice and now snow again. I love the snow, not so much the ice.  Our water has froze off and on all week but, as of now, it is all thawed. We are staying warm though as we have lots of wood.
Juicy absolutely loves it when Grace lays down in the floor with him!
https://merryheartcrafts.com/2013/08/04/pizza-crust/ I am making homemade pizza today.  This is my absolute favorite pizza crust recipe. Good friends of ours, the Horns, gave us some deer burger. I fried one package up and added this seasoning mix. I use this Italian sausage seasoning mix a lot. I add it to any type of ground meat. I really like it.
I wanted to share Grace’s latest drawing. I absolutely love it! I have been working on Sam’s poncho this week. It is turning out really nice. I will show a picture of it when I get it finished.
Sunrise picture from the other morning!

    God bless!

  • Basic Fruit Quick Bread

    Basic Fruit Quick Bread
Good morning everyone! I hope all is well with you. It has been cold here. Our wind chill is -2. Our hot water is frozen in the bathroom.  Not exactly sure why as we did leave the water dripping in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Hopefully it will thaw out soon🙏

Yesterday I was getting frozen peppers from the big freezer and came across some packages of frozen blueberries from our garden. I am making this blueberry bread for breakfast this morning and realized I did not have this recipe on my blog. I wish I could share where I got the recipe from but I do not remember. *recipe may need more than 1/2 cup.

Our driveway is still solid ice from the storm. We have not tried to get out yet. Another storm is predicted to come through Friday. We usually take Sam for his allergy shots on Thursday.  I’m hoping we will be able to get out tomorrow to do that.

I guess that’s it. God bless!
