Every Christmas Eve our church has a candlelight service. I wanted to show you all how beautiful it is but the pictures just didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped. We light all our oil lamps and they serve as our lighting for the service. We sing Christmas songs and the pastor reads the Christmas story. Then we have communion.
Next, we make a circle around the sanctuary and light our little hand held candle, sing a few more Christmas songs and leave. It is always such a moving service reminding us of the TRUE reason we celebrate.
Sunday morning, Hubby and I got up and enjoyed our morning coffee together as usual. Then the girls got up, we opened our gifts, ate breakfast and got ready for church. It was a very nice service. We did not have Sunday School. We came home, ate homemade soup. I made it from the leftovers from Friday’s dinner. Then we just relaxed the remainder of the day. We didn’t have Sunday night church.
We had planned on taking down the Christmas tree and all the decorations today but I think that will have to be another day. It is raining pretty hard here and it is cold. Temperature is 28 degrees with a fairly strong wind. All our decorations are stored up in one of our buildings. I’m not too big on carrying all that up in the cold rain. Maybe tomorrow.
Enjoy your day and God bless.
I love candlelight services. The church we attended in the past had Christmas Eve communion. The church I went to as a child had a cantata, hanging of the greens, and a candlelight service. I always enjoyed all of them. I need to get started taking down our decorations but it is rainy and cold here too. I think I will get started today though. I’m ready to have my house back in order. Have a great day.
Blessings,
Tiffany

We had our first candlelight service on Christmas Eve too. It was so beautiful! We also had communion for the first time ever on Christmas Eve. It was so moving and such a blessing.
The lights are beautiful!

I think the oil lamps look beautiful! Sounds like a wonderful service. It is 43º here right now, but the wind and rain make it miserable. 😦 Tomorrow is supposed to reach 40º and be mostly sunny-I love sunshine!
I hope you have a cozy day and keep warm.

Donna,
We so miss our church candlelight service. Even the kids mentioned this year how they miss staying up late on Christmas eve to attend this service. The church we attend right now is so small in numbers that it’s just not feasible to hold one – but we’ve been praying that God would bring more to our little congregation. Your day sounds wonderful and I’m with you – we are not taking decorations down until next Sunday.
Many blessings,
Michelle

Hi Donna.. Glad that you had a lovely Christmas.. We do not take down our tree until after the New Year.. That is one reason why I don’t put up the tree until Christmas Eve.. smile..
We still have snow but expecting rain tomorrow..
