Hi everyone!  Just a short post on how our day is (hopefully) going to progress.  We are first working on tomatoes.  We picked about 3/4 of a bushel yesterday evening.  After the tomatoes are done, we plan on working with grapes.  I have a plan of working up about 1/2 bushel everyday.  We made 14 pts of grape jelly yesterday so today all the grapes will go to making juice.  We had some fresh grape juice this morning with breakfast.  Also some of the grape jelly.  Both were delicious.  They taste like eating fresh grapes.  I used the Pamona Pectin to make the jelly.  I really like it.  With SureJell, to make a batch of jelly you need 5 cups of juice and 7 cups of sugar.  With the Pamona, 4 cups of juice and only 2 cups of sugar.  That is a really big difference.

I hope you all have a great day and God bless.

  1. Your picture is beautiful. I love fresh grape juice. We have been eating some grape jelly also lately. Isn’t the Pomona pectin great? I sure like it and you get more fruit flavor than sugar.

Have a wonderful day with your family.

  2. Mrs. Donna. I have had problems commenting due to the code not accepting what I am typing. But, I am reading! I am hoping this goes through this time.

I have enjoyed all your post. It looks like you have had a wonderful canning season!

  3. How did it end up going? Did you get as many grapes and tomatos as you had hoped? Does the other pectin have some sort of sugar thing in it to help the jelly thicken? Less sugar is nice when preserving foods, I agree! I like to use apples that are sweet with a touch of tart more sweet though, to make applesauce each year. We eat so many apples year round I never put up enough. big smile And here I am with tomato plants in the yard. big smile Maybe I should have apples and blueberries in my yard. big smile Well, have a nice evening and be sure to rest your weary feet. smile Sincerely, Mommy of two growing blessings & so much more!
